Private stocked fishing for fee ponds in VA, MD, PA?
Posted by: Nova_lifer ()

I remember going to a private pond to fish about 20 years ago. I thought it was in Calvert county but didn't see it online. Are there any private stocked ponds to fish in the MD, VA, PA, (I've been tempted to drop a line in the water at the National Arboretum when no one was looking)? Someplace you can take your kids with a reasonable chance of catching something before they start throwing rocks in the water.

You can fish at the pond at Chantilly Country Club in Centreville.

I've had good experiences with two of the lakes in Reston. They're well-stocked, easy to get to, and are comfortable place to hang around and see what you catch.

At Lake Anne, fish from the end of the dock in front of Heron House / Washington Plaza. My nephew basically got a bite every time he put his hook in the water.

At Lake Thoreau, fish from either the little wooded cove at the corner of South Lakes and Ridge Heights, or from the path that runs parallel to South Lakes Drive on the north side of the street.

My nephew fishes a pond on Springvale. Look for the rusted out dishwasher. If you need help, look for the big stoner kid catching lots of fish using weird bait. He knows what he's doing.

I don't know if it's private property or what, but he says that the couple of times a cop has stopped by, they've never been in trouble for trespassing.

The South Lakes in Reston are great! Fish near the damns. Put a worm on a hook and you'll catch something. Burke Lake is also good.

Are you looking for a private pond so you don't need fishing licenses?

Kids\Residents under 16 years of age do not need fishing licenses in VA.

Lake Thompson is a short drive down I-66 to the Linden/Markham exit. (take a
right when you get off I-66) No concession stands and no porta-potties
unless it's during the hunting season. Plenty of fish and the crowd you
meet there is laid back and local. Warning! Game Wardens are known to frequently
stop by and check for fishing/hunting licenses. I like to take plenty of
food and a hibachi in case I catch something. Also, it's a great place for
hiking but I highly recommend avoiding this area during the hunting season
unless you're a hunter too. Wild and wooly. Just the way I like it. Some
people bring tents and camp over night while they fish.

There's a private stocked pond where I live, but the last time I went, some bum ass who just moved into the neighborhood forced us to leave (Until I came back with a neighbor who cussed him out). Then he began putting up no trespassing signs and fencing all along the lake (Claiming that it was ONLY for lake residents, even though I've known half the lake residents my entire life). Nowadays, the lake has turned into a death trap, with the shorelines completely choked with weeds, and the fencing in areas prevents animals from escaping the water if need be. A great pond, turned into a scum sucking body of water, all thanks to some agenda driven Gestapo on his little bicycle.

Reston has plenty of ponds though, ones not requiring licenses, but you just have to know where to look. There's two off of Reston Pkwy (Between Wiehle Avenue and Rte. 7), check them out. The one on the East Side of Reston Pkwy is more private, and I see more fishermen over there.

Lake Caroline is near Stafford. I believe you can rent house on weekends. Nice area and laid back too.

Lake Cook in Alexandria off Eisenhower Ave is decent for kids. It's stocked with catfish and trout. The trout die off as the water warms up.

There's also some large mouth bass and brim.

A worm on the bottom in the middle will land you a catfish in a few minutes.

There's a handicap accessible fishing platform and I occasionally take my wife's grandfather in his wheel chair.

The only thing to watch out for is the Mexicans. Periodically they show up like locusts and eat everything out of the pond.

Yes, it's just like any other public pond. Here's some info. http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/waterbodies/display.asp?id=38

If you look around on there, you can also find the stocking schedule for trout (winter and spring only).

If you look on google maps, it's between the town homes and water park. There's a small parking lot right next to the lake.

State residents over the age of 16 need a license.
Yes, the police do check them occasionally at Lake Cook.

I just saw your post to someone saying you had a private pond for fishing ect. If you ever see this, I have a question about if its still available for fishing, if so is it something that I could fish out of a wheelchair? I'm pretty good and fish stuff that most people say isn't accessible to me. Thanks Kenny kgcjr@yahoo.com

Zetts is a great place to catch all 3 North American catfish channel, blues and my favorite the flathead. Trout are also available in the spring and fall. As well as having a fishing tournament every Saturday and Sunday they also have tagged fish that pay cash prizes. Great place to fish with the family.

I can stock a lake with a decent amount of fish for <$1k (plus caretaking costs).

This is added to my bucket list- make me a small man-made pond on my property and stock it with fish and fish to my heart's content.

I can dream, can't I?

Skyline trout farm is opening in Sperryville, VA the beginning of April - fee-fishing for trout, keep what you catch, or catch and release for bass and bluegill, $5 per rod. Great place to take the kids - guaranteed to catch fish. Google Skyline Trout farm for website with directions.

Sense and Sensibilities,

I am speaking to you personally.

Do you have to include all those pictures everytime you post? I can see one, or two, or even three- but if you continue to spam the board with the SAME 20+ pictures on every single post, slowing the board down, no one will read what you have to say.

YOU are a HUGE part of the reason why this board has gone downhill.

I am asking you- human to human- please cut back on it. We get you. We see your 20 pics on every thread.

I enjoy reading your words, but then get a headache from your annoying pictures.

Stop it please.

Now, back to the fishing talk?

I will reply to you personally if you agree to stop spamming the board.

I AM listening to you, it's just hard to hear you over the picture spam "noise". Try typing out a paragraph with NO pictures to prove your point, I promise I will read it and respond IF you don't piss me off with the incessant spammning!!!

and I leave you with a pic

There are a lot of good ponds in the Berryville and Upperville area. Just talk to the landowners. Most of them are sensible if you aren't a troublemaker and clean up after yourself

Hi Dear,
I am a real lover of fishing !
I spent hours together in many lakes and ponds.
As discussed in the blog, do you know anywhere nearby in MD or VA, where I can go and fish - with some entertainment with friends and family ?

Please help me.
