Once again another bs hypocritical politician not being held accountable in this day and age no excuse when children are involved. How was this not a bigger story it's a shame and can a petition be started how can an elected position be overturned.

Michael A. Gardner, 51, entered guilty pleas today to one count of object sexual penetration and four counts of aggravated sexual battery. Here's more about the case, from the release:

Gardner was sentenced to 40 years, 20 of those suspended and supervised probation for life. Once released, he will be required to register as a Sex Offender and will not be permitted to unsupervised contact with minors, the victims, or their families.

The plea agreement was reached on the second day of a trial for sexually assaulting his niece when she was 12. A retrial was set to begin in November for Gardner's sexual assault of two 10 year old girls at his daughter's slumber party; that trial is negated with the guilty pleas.

Gardner had been chairman of the city's Democratic committee and his wife is a former mayor.

"On September 29, 2014, the Arlington Circuit Court Grand Jury returned two indictments charging Gardner with Aggravated Sexual Battery of a Child, with offense dates spanning 2009," according to police.

The two 2009 incidents happened two years before Gardner would be accused of molesting three girls, ages 9 and 10 in 2011. But this latest allegation only came to light after the Virginia Supreme Court overturned that prior sex assault conviction because a character witness was not allowed to testify that Gardner was a good caretaker of children.

Gardner's most recent victim sought assistance from a professional who was obligated to report the abuse.

Falls Church is a liberal City and most of the residents don't give a crap about a support letter for Gardner. I understand why people write these letters, but I doubt judges give them much consideration. I don't care if Gardner cured cancer, if he molested underage girls, he needs to be sentenced appropriately.

The destroyed the Mayor of Fairfax City's life for a victimless crime. They need to throw the book at this one.
