You guys are the grand majority of traffic here. And trying to communicate with such a small section of the internet is a pretty difficult to do on an international forum. Please say something about the county or give me ideas on how to improve this site. Current projects include:

- Last 2 years worth of arrest records (need to make a search/parse perl script to dig through the 30 meg text file)
- Implement slashcode instead of this crappy forum software or something equally crappy like phpBB/vBulliten

Ideas? Thanks.

Well, you could do some offline marketing for starters. Place a flyer with your url in all pubs etc 'round Fairfax. Spread the word. Place articles on your site that local people find worth visiting. Find some local people willing to help you out with writing local articles.

I've managed to get ~500 unique visitors within 3 months using tricks like this to promote my girlfriends site (http://mistress.ath.cx/, soz, dutch only)

Good thought, thanks. I was thinking about putting signs at some major intersections so all passing traffic would see it. But I think I'll wait until I get some more actual content up here first.

Well, for starters I'd like to point out Fark's commenting guidelines:

Aside from "not safe for work" posts, the following are also unacceptable:
-Repetitive messages: Cross-posting, flooding, spamming, advertising for a website, etc. If there's a website out there that people really need to see - or if you would like more exposure for your own - please use our Classifieds section (and gird your servers for the incoming traffic).

Having a legitimate comment is no excuse to include a spam signature ;)

Uhh, actually that's incorrect. If those are the guidelines (because I really don't care enough to check the farq myself) then they imply that a post with the sole purpose of advertising an Internet site is inappropriate. Including a signature that points to a web site is not.

Maybe you should point your righteous indignation elsewhere?

I believe the whole purpose for caryw including it as a signature IS FOR MORE EXPOSURE which is explicitly prohibited in the FArQ.

And caryw SHOULD use the Classifieds section.
