advice on apartments needed

Hi,

I am looking for some advice for renting out an apartment, I am a contractor and need an apartment near DC for 6 or 7 months, my research shows that the majority of leases are 1or 2 years. What are the chances of a short term lease? Where would be the best place to look for one?

I am not looking to pay more than 900 per month, size is not important but location is, closer to DC the better, but must be in VA, not MD or DC.

Arlington is our preference, any help or advice appreciated.

The only way you're getting a place for $900 a month in Arlington is if you rent out a room in someones basement.

As I said size is not important, a studio is preferable

Month to month leases are generally more expensive. Less than $900..probably not going to have much luck with that. Unless you are fond of row houses around the Southeast DC area.

It's definitely do-able. Try looking around Hybla Valley, Annandale, maybe Seven Corners/around JEB Stuart High School.

Wherever you end up staying for sub-$900, consider getting a concealed-carry permit.

it's very simple..............................................a person cannot afford to live in this country anymore. You might consider moving to Calcutta.

Yes...ward 8 in DC would be sub-900, but the OP said he must live in VA.

Yeah, just rent a room. http://www.sublet.com is pretty good, so is http://www.metroroommates.com

Craigslist is pretty hit or miss.

Barcroft Plaza is on the nicer side of the JEB Staurt area and they offer apartments in your range.

Yep, always look out for the ones that demand a huge deposit up front. 99% of the legit ads usually want one month's rent or a portion of it for a deposit.

I have seen plenty of dubious ads that demand twice the monthly rent and provide very little details about the place other than your future room mates love to party and drink beer.

Also, you are not getting into a 4 bdrm SFH for only $1200 month.
