WASHINGTON, D.C. — Metro Transit Police arrested a man who allegedly threatened to kill a passenger riding on a Metro train Sunday afternoon while holding what appeared to be a knife in a sheath.
A witness recorded the tense moments on his cell phone around 1:30 p.m. near the Farragut West Metro station. A WMATA spokesperson told ABC7 News in a statement that the unidentified man was “tracked through the system and arrested by Metro Transit Police at 8th and E Streets SE after exiting the system at Eastern Market. He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (knife).”
“Your woman saved your life, yo,” said the man in the cell phone recording. “You don’t think so? You wanna die, don’t you?”
The passenger who recorded the incident did not want to be identified but told ABC7 News the couple the man targeted “seemed to be minding their own business” before the confrontation.
“Your woman just saved your life, boy,” the man said after walking up to the seated couple.
The man pointed what looked like a weapon at the pair before putting it in a black backpack.
“I’ll kill you on this (expletive) train,” he continued.
As the aggressive behavior kept escalating, the witness kept recording and said he didn’t know if the threats were empty or the precursor to violence.
“I’ll cut your (expletive) throat!” the man yelled.
A few stops later, the couple left the train unharmed.
