that goes back to the franchise-gouging i mentioned earlier. around the peak of their expansion, the corporate execs instituted a policy that required all locations to buy all their supplies from one of the corporate subsidiaries. from food, chips, soda, and even down to stuff like paper products, straws, etc. and of course the stuff was more expensive and franchise owners weren’t allowed to negotiate better deals elsewhere. prices went up, store profits started to dry up, and the franchisees even had to honor all the great coupon discounts printed up by their corporate office. it was a boneheaded model and hundreds of stores closed up.
i think they’re owned by someone else now, and they have good enough name recognition that they could make a rebound, although probably not to where they once were.
