I drove for about a month a while back and I quickly realized it was a scam. You pick up nothing but a bunch of cheap trash. Oth uber themselves barely pays you chit.

Because it gets you a quick dime when you have zero skillset.

Not sure about others I usually tip my drivers $5 if they are decent. Hell, ride to and from the bar for $9. Can't beat that.

Yes, but most passengers don’t tip and that’s the entire reason why they’re riding in an uber to begin with. They’re cheap and don’t give damn about your cars wear and tear. It’s not difficult to tip $1 or $2 but most people won’t even do that.

1 of the secrets is to set it up so the GPS on the app thinks you're there but the rider can't see you. You let the timer run and collect a cancel fee. You try to not get the rider. I've collected $50 worth of cancel fees in an hour.

no need to set up the gps. Just show up in a completely different car. The issue is once uber notices that you're doing this, they'll ban you from they'll permanently deactivate you.

When Uber first came out I seem to recall Uber encouraging not to tip and actually not even having a tipping mechanism. That mindset is a tough one to rid of in my opinion and hurts their drivers to this day.

Your recall is right. Uber discouraged tipping on all its services except Uber Taxi. Uber Taxi isn't available in VA, only DC. Kalanick seemed to have a thing against tipping, but, when he decided to offer taxis in certain markets, he did allow for tipping those drivers. But he didn't allow for tipping the limo drivers on Uber Black. It was the same for Uber Eats, even though Uber Eats was still relatively new when Kalanick got pushed out. Despite that, Dara still kept up the "tip not necessary" on Uber Eats, even after he gave the order to allow tipping on the Uber app for Black, X & the others.

Kalanick did ingrain the no tip culture in Uber and it is still there. Ith as spread to Lyft, that had in app tipping before Uber did. More people on Lyft tip than Uber, but, still it's not many.

If any of you want to find out what your drivers really think of you, there's an Uber drivers forum called Uberpeople.net. It's got pages of general discussion that have contributors from all over the world and has pages for each city in the US and other countries. All the other forums are spammed to death & you don't get much real content, but, UPnet keeps most of the spam off & you get real content from drivers. It's an open forum, so anyone can sign up & post, even if you don't drive. FFXU trolls be advised the mods there have little tolerance for your kind & will ban you real fast. They'll delete your posts, too.

Uber is essentially a a loan against your car, you get paid now and can put off the maintenance and deprecation costs of the car for another time. It's a modified pay day loan, instead of crazy high interest you give them your time and whore out your car.

First mistake is leaving the 8-9 mile radius of DC.
Outside that radius=Longer trips, more traffic, more pool rides!
No money$$$$$!
Once the algorithm detects ur ass, u will get ride after ride after ride and make $5/23 mins!
In DC I can do 5 rides in an hour and make $35!
Lots of pussy encounters in DC!! Love it!
I tell women that want to fuck me: “I have to work all nite on Saturday to pay for my Kia Optima payment.” They ask me how much, and they pay my car note just so I can park and fuck them long time. I have 3 sugar mommies I exploit like this weekly!

First mistake is not making enough money that you need to drive 5 people around in an hour for $35 measly bucks. Go to school, better ROI.

True. You definitely lose money being an Uber driver. It can "feel" like you're making money till insurance, upkeep, new tires, and all is due.

That's why they have to have a steady stream of new applicants to keep the scheme alive.

You didn't mention all the crap like being robbed in DC - I carried a fake wallet with a few dollars wadded in it after the first two times. Then there is Uber pool where five people cram in, and they all cancel the ride and skip out when you stop so no one pays.

Then, there are the spoiled brats from McLean that get in and throw up in your car.

I drive uber 12 hrs a day and work 4 days a week.
My 1099 was $63k.
I paid $550 in income tax.
Yeah, I may be from kurdistan but I graduated from GMU.
I went to my daughters high school graduation, all her varsity soccer games-both home and away, and recently went to the beach, on a weekday.
Monetize those moments.
I made MORE salary at my Deloitte job, yet never spent any quality time with my wife and daughter, in the 7 years there.

I don't call them anymore b\c I ask them to take me to the DMV or the Gov't offices & they don't know how to get there.

I call a cab, I get there. With all these screwball rates & fees & added on hidden costs these 2 got now, the cab is only a buck or 2 more & the driver actually knows where he's going. I just call Alex Diamond or FC yellow. They come pretty fast.

What too many consider “wealthy” in this area are confused.
That $750k house with the $2900 mortgage? Yeah, you’re an idiot.
Leveraging equity to buy MORE house the next time?
You’re a bigger fool.

A large majority of next door millionaires drive uber so the money they make can go to pay down principal on their mortgage.

The durka durkas you see driving could be doing the same!

Why bash a way to make money by hitting a smart phone 5x?

I think the same ones bashing uber are so far removed from today’s gig economy and 1099 economics.
Employees are dinosaurs.
Just look at all the niggers working for the federal government.
They bring nothing to the economy, yet they need those employment numbers for budgetary reasons the following year.

Why not bitch about that instead?

This gig economy is quickly becoming organic on its own. It is inevitable.
Sorry you think the above mentioned “real estate economics” you’ve been sold on is your future.
Learned quick when market dropped and many became underwater w their home loans.

There is very little point to paying down the principal on you mortgage. You won't get that money back until maturity, and the only interest you make is at the mortgage rate, likely the cheapest rate you have.

Customer demand.. Some reasons are:

Customers going to places with poor or quite expensive parking or very bad traffic; and given the state of Metro/WMATA/rail/buses, it does not anyway work everywhere all of the time. Such as:

* Dulles and Reagan airports
* Amatrak station Alexandria
* Fair Oaks Hospital
* Some Metrorail stations, that depends if live close enough, and whether do occasionally or regularly.
* Eagle Bank Arena / GMU Patriot Center with a major event.
* Any of the better shopping malls, with poor parking during the holidays.
* Customers going to medical facilities or physical therapy including for sports injuries with poor close to the door handicapped parking.

* Your car is the shop for one or more days. Uber or Lyft for a few trips may be cheaper than a rental.

* You are drunk or have a temporary or permanent medical condition where cannot drive. Or your license is suspended for drunk driving or other reason.

........the 'groid.

Avoiding the 'groid is important when driving Uber or Lyft. The 'groids use Lyft more than Uber, so you have to be extra careful on Lyft. Even though more ghetto dwellers use Lyft, it's a lot easier to avoid the 'groid on Lyft.

Lyft shows you the names & addresses when you first see the request. If the name is Takwonntay or Dakweesha, you just don't take it. You can X it to refuse or just let it time out. If the PAX puts up a photo, which they can, if it's a 'groid, you just don't take it.

If there's no photo and the name is Joseph, say, which could be anybody, you can STILL avoid the 'groid. When you get close & confirm arrival, you can touch the target button &it shows you the map of the trip. If it's going to the ghetto, you just cancel and GTFO. Sometimes, you can just not go & turn on Uber & the PAX eventually cancels so you don't get Lyft POed about all these cancellations.

You NEVER accept "Shared" on Lyft. Even if the 1st PAX is OK, Lyft automatically adds the other ones. You're guaranteed to get at least 1 'groid eventually.

They never tip, they're demanding & they go to places where thugs hang out on the street. 'Groids always rate low. If they ride "Shared", they complain when you pick up the other PAX, even though they know what "Shared" means and they know the driver gets no choice about the other PAX. They always want to hustle you, especially on "Shared". They want to change the destination or make 89 stops, & Lyft doesn't allow that on "Shared". The regular Lyft PAX are bad enough expecting limo service for bus rates, the 'Groids want limo service for 15 YO bus rates.

Uber's a little harder to avoid the 'groid, but, a savvy driver can successfully avoid the 'groid most of the time. You never take Pool in business strips. You might get a Mexi who's going home from work, and they're usually OK, but, you're just as likely to get a 'groid getting off work, and, that's the same BS as on Lyft. They're demanding, they rate low & they want to hustle you. Un fortuantely on Uber, you don't see the name until you take the request. If the name is Lakweesha or Daykwann, you can cancel and get away with it occasionally. Sometimes, you just don't go and do Lyft until the 'groid caancels.

Most importantly is you never accept trips in the ghetto. Sometimes, you just can't avoid the 'groid. You get stuck. It happens to the best of us. You just set it so you don't get anything when you're close to the ghetto drop off. You get the 'groid out, then hightail it out of the ghetto. Once you get to a civilized area, you can turn it back on.

I've even had 'groids try to get me to end the trip before we get to their destination. I don't do it b/c the trip doesn't pay enough anyhow, so I'm not taking even less. Besides that, there's no insurance once I end the trip, so if I get in an accident & the 'groid is injured, which of course they'll say they are, they're not going to get paid. You tell the 'groid that & they still want you to turn it off.

I don't know why these 'groids don't just ride the bus.

Just remember, if you're going to drive for Uber or Lyfy, AVOID THE 'GROID is paramount.

A $2,900 mortgage on a $750k home is a godsend. You would have to be a complete dumbass to pay a mortgage with our current rates down. You do not understand how debt works, stick with something more your speed like Uber driving. I'm over $2M in mortgage debt and have a much higher net worth than you can ever dream of having.

After putting 20% down on a $750K home, you'd be mortgaging $600K which at 4% interest would mean a monthly P&I payment of $2,864.49. You'd have to add taxes and insurance to that of course.

I assume you meant to say "pay OFF a mortgage", not "pay a mortgage", in which case you'd have quite a good point, one that will come as quite a surprise to any Dave Ramsey sorts. While the costs of it have been climbing modestly under Trump, debt is still very cheap in historical terms. Some people know and know how to take advantage of that, and some don't.

My sister wants to enroll herself into driving Uber, but some things are yet not clear. Do you know if they hire women too? Also my sister doesn’t trust corporate car insurance plans so she wants to buy her own insurance policy. I found this Source for her where she can compare the rates anonymously. But my question still open if they will allow her to do that.
