Criminals get their guns from law abiding gun owners. They STEAL them from gun owners. They also buy them from gun retailers. They disharm law abiding gun owners and turn the weapon on its former owner. If your logic were true then countries in which average joe isnt allowed to own guns would be lawless wastelands. As far as I know Canada and Britian are pretty safe places. Oh here it comes. "WHY DONT YOU GO TO CANADA OR BRITAIN THEN" no fuck off. If I go anywhere Id just go back to Ohio where people quietly go about their hunting business and the wannabe highway sniper cant actually HIT anything

The ??? looks like a S&W 6906, but with an external hammer and non factory mag. I'm stumped as well. The one above that is definitely a Sig, you can tell from the grip, 229 or 239.

First of all it is a WASR-10 which means it IS "foreign" by design but since he (most likely) bought it in America it has to have a certain number of american parts to be sold here. Second of all it is not an "assault rifle" as such because WASR-10s are semi-automatic and an "assault rifle" in the strictest terms is select fire or fully automatic. Full-auto guns have been tightly regulated since the 1930s and have been all but impossible to produce since the 1980s in america due to increased restrictions. I doubt he ponied up the extra $200 for a BATFE tax stamp for the "privilage" of buying a full-auto. I cannot be sure, however, because on the outside, a WASR-10 and an AKM machine gun are nearly identical save for a few small tell tale distinctions, none of which I can see in the digital picture.
My WASR-10 was about $350 including tax, background check, and cover charge for the gun show (at Dulles, which was about $10). You have to present multiple forms of identification that have your name and address on them, you have to be over a certain age (18 or 21, I think its 21 for handguns and "assault rifles" in VA) and you have to subject yourself to a spot check by the state police. This means the dealer calls the local state police office and they run a brief background check on you to make sure you dont have any felonies or court orders against you owning guns. An AKM (AK47 Machine gun) will run you anywhere between $1000 and $5000 depending on the FFL dealer, quality, condition, current market value. The add ons that Mofo has including the larger capacity magazine will cost you at least another $100.

So basically: At a gun show for $350.

A cheap entry model is the SKS. They can be converted to carry a bigger magazine. Not sure of the current price but I used to see them at $150.00, that has been a few months ago. I think those had the fixed box magazine, costs extra to convert to 20-30 round mags. But not much more.

When they had the assault weapon ban a few years ago I saw the same rifle sell for $800 and 30 round mags went for $40.00 each.

I have friends who own one and claim them to be a durable and accurate rifle. Cheap to fire and own. Unless I miss my guess they will have plenty at the show. Watch for the description which says NIB, means new in box. Some dealers will remove the accesories and sell them separate. You are better off buying a quality cleaning kit, most that come with the gun arent so hot.

Boris, maybe you know but cant ATF come in your home to see the gun anytime they want unannounced? Meaning the full auto models that require a stamp.

ATF can do whatever they want to because the have badges and numbers. Whether what they do is right or lawful is another question. Recent examples include the VA gun show harassment, less recently the Koresh compound incident. And though not an ATF action all should read up on the Ruby Ridge incident http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Ridge .

No and why would they want to? They know you own it. Why would they want to inspect it again? To re-confirm that it still goes bangbangbang with one trigger pull?? And don't tell me a legal machine gun owner will give his gun away to someone to use in a crime. (thus the need for ATF in home inspections to confirm it is in the owners possesion) Legally possessing a machine gun will run you at least $8,000. Criminals can acquire fully auto guns on the streets for much less. Owning a firearm does not mean you give up your privacy rights.

A NFA tax stamp is just that, a TAX PAYMENT on a property. After you pay the tax the gov does not check up on the firearm.

Now, if you have a SOT license that is a diff story. Then they CAN inspect your home any time.

I wont argue that point. I remember hearing that if approved for a class III machine gun you have to allow ATF entry to your home to inspect the gun at anytime unannounced. I tried to find it on their website but couldnt.

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs.cmu.edu/user/wbardwel/public/nfalist/nfa_faq.txt

Owning or making an NFA weapon

It is illegal for anyone to have possession of an NFA weapon that
is not registered to them in the NFA Registry. It is also not
possible for anyone, except government entities, to register an
existing NFA weapon that is not registered, except within 24 hours
after one is made by a class 2 NFA manufacturer. An individual
otherwise able to own any gun under federal law can receive and own
any NFA weapon (local law permitting, ATF cannot approve a transfer
where federal, state or local law would be violated by the
transferee possessing the weapon in question, see 26 U.S.C. sec.
5812(a)(6)) on a Form 4, "Application for Tax Paid Transfer and
Registration of Firearm". Non-FFL holders may only purchase an NFA
weapon from a dealer or individual within their own state. If the
weapon is located out of state it must be transferred to a class 3
dealer within the state, before transfer to the non FFL purchaser.
C&R FFL holders (type 03) may purchase C&R NFA guns from out of
state dealers and individuals. Type 01 FFL holders, who are not
qualified to deal in nFA weapons, that is are not SOT taxpayers
(see below) may purchase any fully transferrable (no dealer
samples, see below) NFA weapon, from an out of state source. If the
FFL holder is an individual he must submit fingerprints,
photograph, and the law enforcement certification.

The transfer involves paying the transfer tax, which is $200 for
all the NFA weapons, except AOW's for which the tax is a mere $5.
Individuals also have to get one of several specified local chief
law enforcement officers to sign the form (see below on the law
enforcement certification for more information), submit their
fingerprints in duplicate, and attach photos of the transferee to
the form. While the transfer tax is levied by law on the
transferor (seller), in practice the transferee (buyer) is expected
to pay the tax. Initial transfers to individuals tend to take at
least 4 months, although subsequent transfers can be quicker.

Or you can make any NFA weapon, except for machine guns (see
below), by filing ATF Form 1, "Application to Make and Register a
Firearm", and paying the $200 making tax, which applies to all of
these weapons, including AOW's. You may not make the proposed
weapon until the Form 1 is returned to you approved. The law
enforcement certification, photos and fingerprints also apply to
Form 1's, and in fact to any transfer to an individual.
Additionally the manufacturer of any NFA weapon, including an
individual making one on a Form 1 must mark the receiver of the
weapon with the maker's name and city and state. NFA Branch can
grant exemptions from this for DD's. All types of corporations,
including corporate type 01 FFL holders, need not do the
certification, photo and fingerprint requirements. Any of the
forms listed, and the fingerprint cards, are available for free
from ATF, either in Washington, D.C. or your local office.

The original of the paperwork should be kept in a safe place, I
suggest a safe deposit box. ATF can demand to see the form (see
below on your 4th amendment rights). On a tax paid transfer, ATF
puts a tax stamp, like a postage stamp (or like the one that caused
the American colonists to take up arms), on the document. Once it
is used you cannot get another. ATF can supply a copy of the form
should you lose one, but is not unheard of for ATF to have no
record in their computer of a weapon registered to you. Having the
paperwork can avoid a lot of hassles. Every effort should be made
to not lose it.

Additionally, if the gun in question is a machine gun, not having
the paperwork can lead to being charged with a violation of 18
U.S.C. sec. 922(o), the ban on possessign machine guns made after
May 19, 1986. All four of the federal circuit courts of appeals
(U.S. v. Just, 74 F.3d 902 (CA8 1996), U.S. v. Gravenmeir, 121 F.3d
526 (CA9 1997), U.S. v. Gonzales, 121 F.3d 928 (CA5 1997) and U.S.
v. Franklyn, 157 F.3d 90 (CA2 1998)) that have addressed the issue
have ruled that sec. 922(o) prohibits possessing all machine guns,
and it is an affirmative defense to such a charge that the weapon
was legally possessed before it took effect. It is up to the
defendant to prove an affirmative defense, although by a lower
evidentiary standard than the government needs to prove to show a
criminal violation (usually preponderance of the evidence versus
beyond a reasonable doubt). It is not up to the government to prove
the weapon was not registered, for a charge under sec. 922(o), at
least according to all the appeals courts that have considered the
question. If you don't have the paperwork, and it isn't in ATF's
computer, (it is likely they will check, even though they don't
have to prove non-registration, they don't want someone to wave a
registration form in their face during a trial) you can have a
serious problem.

Not so much to inspect but to confirm it is there. After reading your post it appears not, just something I heard. Probably picked it up attached to something like the dealers requirement you speak of.

It's semi-auto. Put together post 2004 so it has the assault features. I got it for about 335 at a gun show. It's about he cheapest AK variant you can get but Kalashnikov's entire philosophy was to design something that was cheap and realible, (and they are you can leave them outside for years so it's all rusted over and filled with sand and it will still work). So I'm not going to spend three times as much for a genuine Russian VEPR or something. An SKS is not an AK, uses the same round as the 47 (7.62 x39) but was designed by a different person. The AK-74 fires a 5.56x39 bullet but is identical in except for the magazines.

SOT stands for "Special Occupation Taxpayer"

In laymens terms: A SOT is someone who is allowed to manufacture Class 3 weapons in their own home business. In essence it's a guy with a machine shop in his garage who can produce machine guns and MG parts, and repair them. His/her shop and home is subject to ATF inspection at any time because the home is located at the same address as the shop.

I'm not to up to speed on the laws concerning MG's and NFA stuff. I may be wrong. but this information is correct to the best of my knowledge.

Cary is standup since he allows all to post and doesnt spam us. He also doesnt have a shit load of pop up ads and otherwise sell the space.

I saw a Sig 556 (like you I was on a search for one!) at the show, but ONLY ONE. I know they are $1300 MSRP and the dealer was asking $1975. I pointed this out to the dealer and told him I'd offer 1300 and he said no. I told him "good luck" and walked away. He was a dick. If you really want one for MSRP try impact guns but you will be on a waiting list.
