What kind of dog should I get the family?

Torn between a French bulldog and a black lab. What’s your experience with these breeds? And what would make the better family pet?

Of those two, go for the lab. Consistently good mannered, nice dogs that are easily trained and don't have a lot of underlying health issues. Every bulldog is hit or miss with health issues that can end up costing you a fortune.

Those are very different pups. Frenchies fart a lot. Labs need exercise. Depends on your situation and daily routine and capabilities.

Labs are great dogs we had one that lived 17 years our kids and the lab grew up together.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are also wonderful and very playful dogs.

Standard poodles are fine choices if you are allergic to dogs at all.

Very playful, albeit sometimes in a jerk way.

French Bull Dogs are costly and overly in-bred. Do not purchase one
and adopt from a local canine rescue or shelter.

If I were you, I'd choose a French bulldog. This is really a very cool breed that will be a great gift for your family. My parents have a bulldog and to be honest, it's one of the cutest creatures I've ever seen. Also, in order to make it easier to take care of him, I advise you to use this site bulldogpapa.com where there are a huge number of articles that can help you with this. I hope the bulldog will become a part of your family, good luck! By the way, I hope you remember that the bulldogs have a small feature? During sleep, they often snore, so you should consider this fact in advance! Although this snoring doesn't bother me, maybe I'm already used to it.
