I have read most of the "stories" and sounds like he is the best candidate for the award. I think what he did was a little more outstanding then being a volunteer firefighter for 2 years.

Agree, you have to really read into some of the stories.
Parade Magazine has an officer of the year award and you will get some thrown in who are really just pr people for the police. Like an officer who volunteers to read to the blind or collects clothes for the poor. Commendable traits but not really police related. One time I saw a female officer who coached basketball while on duty to inner city kids. That was way out there.
