Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Food, fun, music, crafts, and rides! 10 to 10 Saturday. 10 to 10 Sunday. 10 to 6 Monday. Free admission. Limited parking downtown, but Free parking and shuttle rides every 20 minutes to and from James Madison HS and the North side of the Vienna Metro station. Carnival rides (there are 24 of them) are $3 to $5 each. $48 worth of tickets for $40, or buy an all-day wristband for $35 and ride on into the night! Having been some days in preparation, a splendid time is guaranteed for all!
Come on, FIFY. It was Tim Ma’s widely praised scallops with coconut risotto that were enjoyed in Vienna. The fresh halibut in (sweet) pepper sauce special was elegantly served elsewhere. You just can’t keep up with anything.

Viva Vienna is always fun and free. They have some great food booths.
Viva Vienna was also featured on "Great Carnival Eats" on the Food Channel
Dope. The credit line will be open and operating for years to come regardless of whether I attend Viva Vienna. Once again, your financial savvy is shown to be virtually non-existent. As for the fair, we went every year back when the kids were young. It was one of the first places we could just give them twenty bucks and some ride tickets and let them go do their own thing for a couple of hours. Great times all around.
Fuck you Vienna. This stupid feel good bullshit will do nothing but fuck up traffic all over the area. Assholes. Here's hoping some geriatric fuck hits the gas instead of the brakes and takes a bunch of you out.
I think it is great that Viva Vienna coincides with Rolling Blubber. All those drunk bikers with nothing to do on Saturday and Sunday will be mingling with Vienna's finest and scamming on your teenage daughters.

There are two places to be over Memorial Day Weekend...
Viva Vienna was kind of shabby back when it first got started, but the community has really grown to support it over the years, and it has grown to become one of the best civic celebrations anywhere in NoVa. Most of the competition in fact comes from OTHER annual Vienna celebrations -- the 4th of July, the Halloween Parade. even Oktoberfest.
Vienna has always been a great town for families, and because of what they call Small Town Pride, local government has managed to maintain the place as something that might have come out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The new Tysons is trying to come over and gobble them up, but hopefully those folks will ultimately be brought up short in such efforts.

The Town of Vienna deserves medals for fending off the huge developers who keep trying to ruin Vienna with pump and dump skyscraper scams. Vienna real estate is at an all time high because they stuck to their plans.

Did they have a work stoppage or something? I think some of the high rise buildings in Tysons Corner went up faster than Chicken Wash.

Nope. Work has continued the entire time, albeit at a snails pace. That much concrete takes a long time to dry.

Stay away from the crazy old guy there ranting about Falls Church and FIFY. He usually drives around in an old Town Car and his breath smells like three-day-old fish.
The Town of Vienna was named for the first inner-spring mattress marketed under that name made at the old Ayr Hill straw mattress factory which tragically later caught fire and burned to the ground.
Everyone knows that, while used the same abundant straw resources in the area, the broom factory came much later. Both were located near the site of the old beef gristle mill.

You're just plain stupid. The first public school in Vienna opened in 1867 and it was for black kids. The first public school for white kids opened in 1872.
I think he already did go play in traffic and was run over early one Sunday morning by some speeding seafood delivery truck rolling in from the vicinity of Jessup, MD. A miracle that he survived.
Meanwhile, the racial makeup of Vienna as of the 2010 census was...
75.5% White
12.1% Asian
3.2% African American
0.3% Native American
5.3% from other races
3.6% from two or more races
Hispanic or Latino of any race were 12.0% of the population.
Vienna has gone to shit. Sure, there are a handful of good neighborhoods left. But too many towel-heads, dot-heads and Asians have taken over and it's now firmly 3rd-world middle class. Oakton is here it's at. Massive lots keep most of the 3rd-worlders out and it remains mainly white and upper-middle class and above.
Oakton is a lovely spot in some ways, but it is basically a nondescript Census-designated place carved out of one-time pasture land. It has no history, no local government, and other than a Giant and a CVS, no meaningful downtown. Residents must be willing to get out of Dodge in order to find meaningful shopping, dining, or employment options. Despite this, Oakton has a population density of about 3,500 people per square mile, comparable to Vienna's roughly 3,750.

Yeah, nobody noticed that you tried to change the subject. lol
All of Oakton's garbage is trucked over to Vienna, where it is quickly carted into the Vienna Inn to make their shitty hotdogs. The chili is really the dog shit from Oakton's pooches.

The Inn is of course has been a beloved and wildly popular Vienna institution for nearly 60 years. It has always served turkey dogs, and the homemade chili recipe was changed only once, substituting actual chile peppers for the original ground chili powder.
