Blocking Thru Traffic to Turn Left
Posted by: causeican ()
Date: May 11, 2019 04:40PM

It’s become a regular driving tactic for drivers to pull out in front of oncoming cars and sit perpendicular in a through lane in order to wait for an opening to turn left. In addition to being selfish and rude, it is a hazard.

Why are people doing this now? Is it because police are no longer ticketing traffic violations?

U-turns are another increasing behavior. I think gps has something to do with this.

I use the roadblock maneuver sometimes but usually I will just make a right turn and go find a place to turn around like a parking lot or fast food joint. This area just has too many vehicles or not enough road, possibly a combination of the two.

I've used that get new bumpers for two of my old beaters. I just hit them and then say they pulled across when the cop gets there. Neither time did he write them a ticket but both times their insurance co's found them at fault for failing to yield and paid for a brand new front end for my beater.

Traffic laws can be manipulated. I know how to use the laws for my best interest.

It is called the New England Cutoff or Boston Block. Sometimes, it is the only way to make your turn or get across a road.

Your cute little stunt might work in Virginia, but it will not in D.C., especially in this era of dashboard cameras. The D. of C. subscribes to the doctrine of "last clear chance". As the dashboard camera will show that the blocking car was not moving when you struck it, and had not been moving for some time, it will be presumed that you had the last clear chance to avoid the collision. That lets the other guy's insurance company off the hook. D.C. is also a "contributory" state. If you are found even one per-cent negligent, you are barred from recovery.

TO be sure, D.C. juries do not often find "contributory", but, in a case such as this, where it would be obvious that you had the last clear chance to avoid the collision, if the Jury did not find contributory on your part, it would easily be found on appeal. This would be a low cost appeal, thus the other guy's insurance company likely would appeal it.

You don't pull that shit here. I've seen people pull round in front of them and then stop dead right there and let the traffic behind them go until the left turning fucktard backs his shit up or dies of old age.

Your lil dashcam story is cute, but he could never show it to anyone because that violates several sections of 46.2 in VA.

This happens a lot at eastbound Braddock at northbound Ravensworth, drivers coming off 495 and trying to go across all lanes of traffic to make the left at the light and if its backed up there they block the left through lane. There is a turn around that one can make not too far up Braddock from that intersection but "I'M THE MOST IMPORTANT IN ALL SITUATIONS" seems to be the rule of the road these days.

It happens often enough that when I'm heading east on Braddock in the area, I keep in the right lane.

Cops don't want to go to traffic court...

I don't drive that area too often but was there yesterday and someone did exactly that. I laid on the horn and got up on their ass and they moved. It's an easy u turn at the next intersection so there is no need to block traffic.

I've given up driving on the far left thru lane on Leesburg Pike at Springhill Road and Westwood Center Drive intersections because some a-hole drivers use it as a left turn lane.

Wahhhh, you really expect people to miss a left turn because the turning lane is full of cars? There's nothing remotely illegal about that...

I sit parallel in the turning lanes, waiting for the other side of the road to clear, facing opposing turning traffic with my right blinker on. I'm sure that pisses some of you pussies off

Public space-no expectation of privacy, Fed ruling. VA 46 is motor vehicle code. What's your point?

Just wait until you get hit at speed by someone paying more attention to their cell phone instead of what's going on in front of them.

If you show your dashcam film to the cops to prove you "weren't moving", but the first part of it shows you breaking the law... Never mind. You are dumb enough to do just that.

Traffic laws only matter when you’re involved in a collision. Then they matter a great deal. Who is right and who is wrong = who will pay and who will not pay.

gerrymanderer2 (OP) posts several lies on ffu daily - many\.10think he's a fx co gov worker who is getting paid to do it for false DNC democrat "advertising". he floods ffu with useless posts to bump down major news, posts fecal matter, mutilated bodies, child porn, foreign drug ads and sneaker ads, tells people to kill themselves and government should seize them and put them on psych pills in prison - decided by democrat gov of course, promotes kangaroo courthouse trials, gives anti-religious rants, gives satanic ritual rants, posts black males with large dicks on white young females, portends white low birth rate and fall of USA, food tampering/poisoning, and anything possible to DEMORALIZE white people on ffu. (perhaps a chinese prisoner or isis member - but definitely knowledgeable of fx co gov from the inside at times). the website operator has told him "not to post or return" which are still posted - not removed, by the sysop: not because of a political leaning but for continual illegal and gross spam along with messages that are only to demoralize if not kill others. he/she plays at financial terrorism as well: continuall reporting false financial data, and fake emergency please from (fake members of the community he makes up)

VA DMV Manual:

If your a turner, you don't sit behind the line on a green light. When the intersection is clear you enter it. Once you do you "own" your lane. You must wait for oncoming traffic to turn, still, since that is not "your" lane.

If the light changes the oncoming traffic will stop and you can exit the intersection. Other drivers are SUPPOSED to know you have the right to leave the intersection despite the light already changed.

ONCOMING DRIVERS who run yellow endanger you by forcing you to stay in the intersection until after the light changes. Honk you horn.

-----------------------------

That is a VERY accurate account of left turning in Virginia if not all of the USA.

And you will note that there's nothing about sitting ACROSS the lane like a giant douchebag. You wait your turn.

It's just going to get worse as the county has approved about 300,000 more cars on the roads during rush hour and weekends.

Welcome to LA and New York city gridlock in Fairfax County. Might as well move to the middle of DC.

How the fuck does the County approve or disapprove the number of vehicles on the roads during any period of time? What are you even talking about?
