Local Author Publishes First Book

My name is Steven Oliverez and I've spent the past 24 years in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. I grew up in the Herndon/Reston area and recently moved to Ashburn.

This past month I published a fantasy novel titled "The Elder Staves," which is now available on amazon.com and bn.com (as well as several other online retailers)

The Elder Staves is a sci-fi/fantasy adventure set in a world of magic and skyscrapers where technology and magic exist together in an escalating struggle for dominance. The Mage-Elders of the city of Tyr are faced with an industrial revolution that is crippling their power and prompting open rebellion. When two young nobles become entangled in a plot to overthrow the Elders, they learn that their efforts to survive through the night will be useless if they cannot stop the destruction of the city at the hands of a haunting, malevolent presence from Tyr's mystical past.

rstidman,
turns out it gives money -10 and life -(page reading speed * 224). damn that book.

...
writing a book is impressive but it doesn't appear to be a genre that anyone hear cares to read.

Hey, that sounds pretty cool. I'll check it out.

I do a bit of freelancing and belong to a writing group in Fairfax. It's good to see local authors doing well.

Hopefully I'll start sooner rather than later.

And congrats again on your season!

I'm assuming the +5 remarks are D&D related. No, there are no +6 Daggers of Ogre Slaying in 'The Elder Staves.' No elves or dwarves or all that other stuff either. Check out the website, it has a lot more info ( http://www.stevenoliverez.com ).

Congratulations, the reviews on Amazon are very good. I'm not into the fantasy genre but I wish you further success.

Is "playing kickball" a new euphemism for some other activity?

I like that a self published book is now defined as "success". At least there are only 3,224,000 more popular books on Amazon. Hope the boxes full of fantasy novels in your basement haven't set you back too far.

Well, you don't see Hemmingway on community message boards begging for attention.
