Soooooooo. You still haven't stated a reason why she isn't worth the money she is making. Instead you went all caps on her age and complained about the lack of positive grades you and your girlfriend didn't earn. No one is gonna feel sorry for you here for grades you failed to earn.

Have a problem with the $$$ teachers make here? Move somewhere where teachers are paid less, and see how that goes for you.

99.9% of K-12 teachers are replaceable by an unskilled 10 y.o. They teach to the plan without any deviation. They aren't teaching, they are reciting what the study guide tells them to say and assigning what the study plan tells them to assign. The super lazy ones (about half) are now having other students grade quizzes and tests or will take them home and have their spouses or own kids do it. Basically, they are babysitters.

The good ones deserve to make $250K a year. That's less than 1%. The rest deserve to make $15/hr.

Teachers can and should be able to make at least 100k. Teachers in other parts of the developed world make that or close to it. Why are you so against paying teachers a competitive wage?

I hate to say this, but it's true.

So...

BTW, my mother was a teacher when I was young.

But, living in DC, when I got out of college, we hung with a bunch of other young graduates, who happened themselves to be teachers.

And what a bunch of nasty losers they were.

I'll be honest-they might not have been too different from us. The fundamental difference, though, was weren't in charge of the lives of a roomful of 1st through 6th graders.

On the other hand, they might have been different than us.

They weren't really that smart-while many of us had studied difficult things in college (engineering, finance, pre-law), they studied Phys ed...and early childhood education...you know, classes we might take to round out a semester, that were SIMPLE.

I noticed them to be a catty, emotional, angry lot....getting drunk out of their minds on the weekends, huge, illogical fights with their boyfriends, self destructive behavior...

I'm thinking, s&&&, these are the dingbats that are teaching are children?

Teachers are very quick to pretend to be altruistic, stating they don't do it for the money.

Then cry and bitch out of the other side of their mouth about not getting paid enough.

My parents were employed by a worldwide company that paid for private school because they didn’t want their employees’ children shot. Bad for morale.

I learned things in 6th grade that most don’t learn in college. It set me up well for life, and I didn’t have to worry about getting stabbed.

That's kinda the way the world works.

May not be "fair", but, its as good a system as there can be.

Love it, fight it, or f it, it's all the same.

Anyone experienced a FCPS kindergarten class? There is very little fundamental instruction in an elementary school day. Not when the guidance counselor visits for enlightening talks about friendships, character and anti-bullying. And, half of the class does not understand English. Then deskside reading assessments have to be completed and submitted by end of first quarter, all in the midst of a chaotic, crowded classroom of 30.

Add in students who still wet or poop their pants. Some of the students are being assessed for special education referrals. That involves in-class observation by a specialist. Some students get pulled out for speech therapy. Then, "specials" - art, music, P.E. and lunch. Two recesses, because parents complained kids weren't having unstructured outside time.

Recess is a mess. Students don't know how to play or what to do. Lots of injuries from young children who have little experience playing normally without a parent hovering.

Too many fat kids who waddle around and can't or won't participate in P.E. because it's hard. More fake injuries and the gym teacher can't deny the students' complaint or they'll hear about it from an enraged parent.

Also, good luck to the solidly-average, English speaking, Caucasian students and their parents. Prepare to be just a number, lost in the shuffle and most importantly, either brush up your own subject matter knowledge so that you can supplement your student's learning or, line up tutoring now. Better yet, put some money aside.

You will get extra help/support in the form of before or after school test prep in elementary school IF your child is identified as a "fail risk" for the beloved SOLs. Oh, if your kid fails or gets a lower score on the SOL, he can retake it. Anything to improve the school's almighty overall score. Note this extra help is only and I mean only for the SOL. You'll never have this offer of extra help ever again. Don't believe me? Opt out of the SOL. It's your right as a parent.

I have a crazy, dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks family member who is truly stupid and according to Fairfax Underground makes 98k as a special ed “teacher.”

Perpetually broke, emotionally unstable, moves frequently, zero common sense, irrational and mentally ill. Loves to cry poor, wants both pity and admiration for her chosen career.

Teachers in general want to be treated as pros, but they don’t look or act or communicate as such. Two generations ago, to be a teacher meant you were highly-respected by your community and parents alike. It was considered a great honor, especially for women; you had to have a college degree to teach. So, teachers were held to (likely unfair) standards to preserve this stature.

Want to be treated professionally? Act accordingly.

There’s a massive wave of good teachers moving overseas to teach. Some family moved to Ecuador and EVERYTHING is taken care of: housing, medical, free school for their kids...plus, a hefty salary in a country with low cost of living.
If I was a teacher, I would go and not look back.
Kids are more fucked up now than ever. Plus, the teacher unions are socialist.
Just look at FCPS and the endless churn of shit teachers at gatehouse.

Public school teachers are paid by tax dollars. You can compare NBA players (who I think get way too much) but that's different. NBA is a free market that determines pay by ticket sales, ad revenue and media rights.

Teachers should be valued and while $100,000 seems high, there are hundreds of administrators who do very little every day and make $100,000 a year and more.

Why not if it is a good teacher with a high degree of education? But not all teachers deserve high salaries. At my school I was not given normal knowledge and now I have to use the services of custom essay writing service. I am sure that the salary level should depend on professionalism.

That really isn’t that much money now a days, especially in this area. It just sounds like a lot because most you losers are 15 and still live with your parents or make 12/hr if you even have a job. Hard to live on 100k if you have kids and own a home that you’re not embarrassed of. So yeah, teachers are important. Pay them. Just don’t let them complain about “how hard” being a teacher is or that they are “underpaid” because with summers off, it’s a pretty good gig.
