Last time I checked, they are only open late on the weekends.
Otherwise they're a day-time joint.
And they are closed on ...Mondays, I think it is...like military things.
Every time I've gone in there, I had a great meal.
And the service was always good, and the people nice.
The suggestion that the food is bad or the place is dirty
seem like total lies to me, since every single experience
of mine has been just fine. I've only been there about
maybe 15 times since they reopened, usually late night.
The suggestion that the owner ascribes to liberal causes,
or at least to some of them, might be true. However, I've
never seen anything about that in the restaurant.
I've talked to him a few times and he is personable.
He does community-oriented things and gives back.
Some people here seem to hate him regardless.
But don't let them kid you about the food or service.
If I lived closer to the place I'd be over there every week.
Maybe he will pick up more business as Fairfax is redeveloped.

The 29 Diner is closed on Mondays, otherwise open 24/7. The food and service are perfectly fine. What's totally fucked up are the brown-shirt right-wing ASSHOLES who lie, lie, and then lie some more while trying to run the place down because they heard that the owners support what they view as 'liberal' causes. Sun-Thu they close at Midnight.
Fri, Sat they close at 2 AM.

Scrapple is actually of German origin and was brought to this country by Dutch and German immigrants who settled in Eastern Pennsylvania. Its popularity has spread from there to southern New Jersey, Delaware, and the Eastern Shore, as well as to areas around Baltimore and DC. You'll definitely find scrapple at organic local eateries such as 29 Diner or The Virginian. The IHOP at Fairfax Circle also serves it.

To Make Home fries peel up a potato cut it up in cubes or slices and boil for a few minutes to precook, drain and then fry in some veggie oil with some onions that I forgot to add or if you dare some bacon grease, season them with a bit of Paprika and some pepper leave the dammed salt out ! Cook those eggs in bacon grease too if your really daring and need to grease up before the sauce in a Hobo's Beer Can comes later

This used to be a good place to eat. Nice-sized portions with just enough grease infused into the food to make sure every bite was tasty ;)
I think the old owners sold it a couple of years ago. Now, it's gone to crap. The customer service has really gone down hill and the size of the portions went down too. Sad to see a once-great, cozy diner turn bad in just a year or two. Recommend you avoid.

Unless you think a Silver Dinar is somehow an authentic diner experience, the 29 Diner is still a great place to go eat. The food and service there are certainly solid. The place has of course changed hands a number of time since 1947, but it is still a real deal diner. Even if you didn't like Ike, take the kids over to the 29 Diner and let them get a taste of what the 1950's were all about.

You saw it above ! Look again! What's so great about the 29 diner their food is displayed in this picture ?? And So wrong with Denny's IHOP or DAJAX'S ?? Other then your politics ! Im not saying the 29 had bad food, I'll eat there, but what's so great about it !

If the 29 Diner were in Falls Church City, it would easily be the best eatery in town. A classic American menu beautifully executed and artfully served, all with a side of nostalgia. .

food is OK. Nothing special. It's just too fucking expensive for what you get there. I'm withing walking distance of the diner and was a regular there until the new owner took over. He jacked up prices and the quality of the service took a dive. The food is about the same as it was before. We go to Denny's now. Right across the street from 29 diner and we get better service and bigger portions.

You're the same Denny's dope as before, and the 29 Diner had not been operational for four months prior the current owners taking over. They did retain many recipes from the Guevara era, and were able to restore and refurbish the place, eventually reopening to the public on 9-11-2014.

Unfortunately, this place isn't closed. But it should be. I'm shocked that it hasn't gone out of business with the shit they peddle as food there. You'd be better off going to McDonalds and getting one of their Big Breakfast Meals. You'll pay half the price and the food is actually a little better at Mickey D's. Like someone posted above, give it a try yourself. I can't image anyone with at least one functioning taste bud ever going there more than once.

Our charity had its annual awards banquet catered by 29 Diner last month. It was smoothly run, cost-controlled, and very well received by the 238 guests. We'll certainly talk to them again next year.
