Speeding ticket not showing up in court database 2 months after, should I forget about it?
Posted by: Good Driver ()
Date: February 20, 2010 11:01PM

So I got a speeding ticket right around new years. I was going 58 in a 35 at around 3 AM but did not get reckless, just speeding. So I have been trying to pay it both online and by phone but my name is not showing up in the database online and the automated phone system can't find my summons number. Also my name doesnt show up in the arrest/ticket search.

So since it has been almost 2 months and my info has not shown up, should I mail it in to pay it? Should I go to court? I'm not going to fight it, but the cop might not show. Since they can't find my summons number, might they not call me in court?

If it were me I guess I would go out and drive up and down a road at night at 23mph over until I got pulled over. Sometimes these new-fangled computer thangs don't "take" and if a police officer re-enters one the new one should "take" and you can pay it.

You need to figure it out. I wouldn't just ignore it. When it catches up to you, you may end up with a suspended license due to failing to answer a summons. If that happens, and you're caught driving, then you just caught yourself a jailable offense. Sometimes there's a delay between the time you license is suspended and the time you actually receive notice in the mail. Either way you could be convicted of driving while suspended.

I personally would not worry about it, the worse thing that could happen is that it goes to Ct. find you guilty in absentia, and when you don't pay the fine they will suspend your license. Screw the Courts, sounds like you got over on them.

They probably spelled your name wrong when they input the info. Search for cases on the date that you are supposed to appear in court.

the courts have been pushing cases back because of all the random snow we've had, things just keep getting delayed, so it's possible that happened but who knows..better safe than sorry though! Good luck

The odds of the ticket simply disappearing are pretty slim. It could turn up anytime and it will only get worse for you. If you have a court date on the ticket you must go to it. If you're name isn't on the docket don't just leave. Show them the ticket and do what it takes to resolve it. Again, it could have been misfiled and you can't count on in being misfiled forever. If the officer is there go to the prosecutor about a half hour before court starts and ask him to drop the speed down to 19 over in exchange for a guilty plea. Ask for a dismissal if the officer isn't there or doesn't show up. Good luck.

My teen son got a ticket for running a stop sign and causing an accident. The charging officer told us to call a number to find out when his court date would be. The system was unable to locate his name for us get a court date. We kept checking because the officer had told us that it may take a while to get in the system, but it was not pulling up. We also left messages for the officer, but couldn't get a date confirmed. Finally, a couple months later, a sheriff showed up at the front door with a summons because our son missed his court date.

My husband and son went to court and explained the situation and they verified that there was something like a typo preventing us from pulling up the info. They dropped the failure to appear charges, but it sure freaked my son out to be served a summons and we had to do some scrambling to document what we had done to try and appear after he was served with the failure to appear summons.

Lesson learned is to be as proactive as possible and document that you are doing that. I wouldn't ignore it.

Is there a decent chance that might work? I just got a ticket for 22 over (no reckless driving) and don't mind paying the fine but the points are going to be tough to swallow.

I would not ignore it. I had a buddy who got a ticket for driving while suspended in FFX. After the ticket he didn't hear anything so he decided to ignore it. Two years later the FFX police showed up at his door with an arrest warrant. He spent five days in the county jail before they even booked him.

When he did go to court the judge Nolle prossed the case because he had been "living in plain sight", at the same address for two years even though the cops said he was a fugitive.

So, he did get off in the end but he could have avoided 5 days in lockup.

First things first, neevveerr ignore a ticket.

With that being said, I've actually had this happen to me..twice. The first time it happened (2003ish..) I couldn't find my ticket online, after plenty of time searching and sitting on the phone with the courts, turned out the cop had entered my name in wrong (even with my License# and all my other information was right) the mere fact he made an error on my ticket is grounds for dismissmal and all I ended up paying were court fees..no points deducted or any penalties came my way. Fast forward to now, and it's been 2 weeks and yet again, same scenario so far, there is no trace of the ticket online, I'm going to court in Jan and we'll see if it gets dismissed again..hopefully.

The same thing happened to me. 4 months later I get a letter from the DMV about my license being suspended, and 6 months later the retards from Arlington Country send me a delinquent account notice with my name spelled wrong, and of course they say I owe them even more money now. I wonder if this isn't done deliberately to make people pay more in fines. There is no record of my case but somehow the DMV managed to suspend my license correctly, and want $120 to restore it. I think I will be taking these assholes to small claims court to make them pay that fee.

I'm experiencing this now. Luckly, I have a friend that is a cop for FFX county and I'm going to have him look it up. I looked up under my name (lots of old court info was listed) and even the current summons date which doesn't even have someone with my LAST name listed at all. Granted I have until the end of June, but I wanted to see what other people had experienced. I think I better call my friend and have him look it up and then call the courts.

Got pulled over July 4th weekend on my way to VA beach - not only is my name not searching - I'm also not showing up on the docket for that day in court. Something tells me their backed up and have not gotten around to inputting the ticket (it's only been a week or so).

it's part of those fucker IT workrs for fx/VA to fuck with the switchboard.

they show you $0 owed online

same day as trial they change the $0 to the typical fine, and also rule you delinquent, which is

$500 fine

Those mother fuckers are going to get what's coming to them.

As a dedicated Socialist, I insist that you tell me your name now so that I can instruct my Government to come and serve you with a summons to come to court to support my Democrat ideas.

Give up your name right now!

If you don't give your name up, then you must be a member of some Halliburton-DickCheney-Republican-Right-Wing-Extremist-Truther movement. Then, I'll get to you later.

If you are issued a Virginia Uniform Traffic Summons for a violation, I advise you to show up for traffic court everyday until your case is called.

I've received over 20+ speeding tickets throughout my driving life, in different states.

THE ONLY TIME THE JURISDICTION DROPPED IT BEFORE the COURT DATE/BEFORE paying the fine, etc was in New Mexico!

I got pulled over by 4 cops in full SWAT gear with machine guns etc.
Turns out these were "yaki's" and not real police.
If I paid the fine, their tribe would have had a BETTER Christmas (ticket fine was over $200). Imagine how many " pale faces" from outta state just cut checks to these people!!!

When I called the number on the ticket to get a "continuance" on the court date(was living 400 miles away in Mesa,AZ), the court clerk asked me what a continuance was....turns out it was tribal land, and ONLY natives had to pay, or risk getting their license suspended etc.

It ended that second.no suspension for that state, etc.

Pale Face 1
Yaki red faces 0

In closing, go to court bc there is a high probability Joe policeman won't have your date on his schedule, and not be there...ask for an immediate dismissal. If the judge denies your request and sets a continuance date for the policeman to appear, you will have legal grounds for an appeal, IF found guilty, ON the charges, THAT LATER FATE.

JERK. The ticket will have a trial date on it and that is the date you need to show up. If they call the case on a date earlier than the ticket date the ticket provides 100% protection against any verdict entered. If you show up on the trial date and the case is not called, they have to serve you with notice of the new trial date and have proof in the file. Only way around that is if they call the case and continue it to a date certain after you respond. In that situation verbal notice is considered sufficient.

The clerk's office is sometimes slow in getting the tickets put into the system. Until they are in the system you may not be able to pay it on line. You should still be able to pay it in person though. Just be sure to have your ticket with you, and keep the receipt.

Look at the ticket closely and see if the officer made a mistake on the form with the license number or name. If the ticket got entered wrong it may not show up under your name.

I also think any wrong information on a ticket invalidates it. For instance: John Smith at 1234 State St, but you are John Smith at 12345 State St- The ticket was in effect issued to a different person.

I'm not sure if you have a comprehension problem or if you're just plain old stupit! It's probably already run through the system and points have been assessed! Go to a DMV and check your driving record. I have no idea on what it costs these days, but it used to be $5, which means that it's probably $25 now!

Same thing happened to me. If you are guilty, pay the ticket by mail to get the matter resolved. Otherwise, go to court on the date written on the ticket. The court told me that State cops are notoriously slow at entering traffic data into computer, making it impossible to pay the fine online until they do. If you don't pay by he deadline, you are asking for more trouble.

Kind reply question to your here:

If you agree to NOT COME BACK TO THE US, we will forget about the ticket. And, you must go back to riding donkeys like in your home country. A donkey cannot achieve 89.7mph. You are a threat to our safety and you must leave.
