Falls Church is in the worst shape of any high school in FCPS. It was built as a middle school in the 60’s and has not been updated since the 60’s. It is next up on the renovation plan, so hopefully some Pfizer’s the issues will be resolved, although the biggest problem is one, lack of space (land) and two, white parents to hold the county accountable. Apparently people of color’s opinion hold no value at Gatehouse.

Falls Church is planning a big 75th anniversary next year. They’ve got an alumi running things who probably has some pictures. Call the office and they can probably put you in touch.

I have a 1971 Falls Church High School yearbook.

I can dig it up and post some pictures from it, if you would be interested.

Yours should be jackass.

Buildings and the equipment inside them have a limited life span. They have to be renewed from time to time even if changes in technology and use don't require alterations. The physical plant at Falls Church High School is the worst of any of the Fairfax County high schools. The building should have been renovated long ago. Falls Church doesn't have the clout of TJ or other schools with less deterioration that were jumped ahead of it.

It wasn’t about clout. When FCPS developed the renovation queue back in 2008, one of the factors deemed relevant was whether a school was overcrowded, which was a factor that got a school renovated sooner. FCHS wasn’t at the time, so it ended up further back in the queue. About the only school that got bumped up from its original spot in the queue was West Springfield HS, where a School Board member cut a deal to get it renovated sooner if she agreed to the closing of Clifton ES, which was also in her district.

Former FCHS parent. The school is an absolute dreary, filthy mess. I think a tear down and rebuild would be best. It's a failing school with lazy administrators. This is what diversity and illegal immigration has wrought.

I can exercise clout directly, by having my project put higher up in the queue than other projects. I can also exercise clout indirectly by having the rules written in a way that results in my project ending up being higher up in the queue that other projects. Saying "It was the result the rules dictated" is being dishonest when the rules were written by interested parties trying to produce favored results. FCHS is in bad shape now. Ten years ago it was already in worse shape than any other FCPS regular high school. Fifteen years ago when the school system and county were rolling in money FCHS was still in bad shape.
