Well, the intellectual tumbleweeds do blow along in their picturesque and unpredictable way from time to time, but the badly weathered Whiffies seem about finished here for now. There are certainly a great many more photos of brick townhomes taken over the past decade or so that could be posted, but perhaps the lack of any actual sense in that has at last dawned on them. And speaking of dawn, it was a delightful 70 degrees out here in the stunning Sweet Spot when I first arose this morning as a bright sun shone down on this large property of mature and other trees, gorgeous gardens, and meticulously manicured lawns. The views out the walls of windows tend to be quite an inspiring thing in general, but perhaps particularly so at this time of year. Encouraged by Spring rains -- about half an inch of which fell overnight -- the colors are vivid and the shifting shadows cast by leafy branches blowing in the breeze make for a soft truth of nature that Claude Monet might have appreciated in his day.

We'll in any case be creeping into the high 80's later on, and there's a chance that a t-storm or two could blow up as well, but mostly we'll just be enjoying more gentle breezes and more warm, glowing sunshine over the balance of the day. Perhaps some of our wildlife friends and neighbors will be encouraged to srop by at some point, but I haven't noticed any visits yet. And just as an FYI, we do of course have a variety of non-white residents out this way as well, but not so much in the way of non-wealthy ones.

Meanwhile, the disgrace of President Ding Dong only grows by leaps and bounds as he seeks to appropriate the memory of the murdered but not yet buried George Floyd to his filthy cause, even as police are pushing 75-year old old men to the ground in his name and then leaving them there, bleeding on the sidewalk. And we also get an admission at last that yes indeed, Kaylie, troops did in fact use tear gas to clear out peaceful protesters for the purpose of staging Trump's sickening strut across Lafayette Park to do his bible-flaunting photo-op. As both the Rector and Bishop of St John's Church have already noted, what a total disgrace of a performance that was. The man is simply unfit for his office. The chump does have a boirthday coming up of course (June 14). You can message him appropriately at...

In other news, OAK has joined the NFL in admitting the error of prior ways. They will now pay their minor leaguers through the end of the regularly scheduled minor league season, cecoming the 30th and last team to make that commitment. Meanwhile, the whizbangs at Rockefeller Center have let it slip that they actually want to play just a 48-game regular season in 2020, not the 114-games that MLBPA had proposed. Again, regular season games cost owners money, while they rake it in like Scrooge McDuck from post-season games. Their own pockets are all that motivates MLB. They care not one whit about the well-being of the players, the fans, or the game itself. Not much to admire there.

Not so much to admire either over in the dark recesses of long ago eclipsed Falls Church City. The likes of Ballston, Tysons, Vienna, and Mosaic have long since passed the place by, as they, like emerged cicadas, leave little beyond a spent brittle shell behind. The remnants of a once proud place are however meeting at this very hour in front of George Mason HS to support removal of the name of that anti-Federalist slave owner from the school. A new and more sensitive name would be an appropriate step forward as students and teachers prepare to move into a brand new building.

Well, the Whiffies and supremacists may have folded their shameful tents, but the Sweet Spot rolls ever onward with yet another spectacular day in store for all of us able to enjoy life out here in this special place. Without regard to false categorizations based on perverted notions of race, creed, color, gender, status, orientation, or national origin, it was 67 degrees for all when I awoke for good, and what all of us out this way will be enjoying equally today is bright sunshine, cloudless skies, gentle breezes and temperatures that will not make it much if any beyond the 80-degree mark. With the humidity having also fallen back below even 50%, conditions for today's trip out to retrieve the morning paper were for me and for all others similarly situated quite simply in a range beyond merely pleasant and delightful.

While there were indeed assorted sightings yesterday afternoon, we have not noted any of our wildlife friends so far today. Perhaps later on during Cash Cab hours. For now, enjoyment will come from polishing off this yummy ribeye-and-cheese sub with all the trimmings that was carried out last night along with a tasty dinner consisting of a large bowl of chili, fries, and a large salad with dressing on the side. Just plain good in every respect. We are hoping to pull off an outdoor dining date with The Principals sometime this coming week, but there's work still to be done on that. It's been a while since we've been able to get together anywhere other than on FaceTime, so a return to live and deliciously catered meet-ups certainly would be nice.

Nowhere even close to nice of course is the abysmal President Ding Dong. Mocked endlessly (see Sarah Cooper) for his very, very short time of 'bunker inspecting', the harder the clown tries to use his 'vicious dogs' nonsense to intimidate citizens and quell these now global anti-racist protests, the more people show up for them. And of course, there is little chance of the stable genius's ever being able to outsmart Mayor Bowser, as Black Lives Matter Plaza has instantly become one of the most popular stops on city sightseeing tours. The scope and scale of the place have certainly struck a chord among decent folk. who says nothing good ever happens after midnight?

In other news, former MLB All Star Matt Harvey is apparently among a group of such players now talking with KBO officials about playing there this season. Korea of course took quite a different path from the US re COVID-19 and is now at quite a different place, but it isn't like they are immune or anything. They may however operate under much more sensible ownership, and that could certainly be a draw at this point.

There is of course no draw at all going on in the pits of failing Falls Church City. With thoughts of a NoVa move into so-called 'Phase Two' now put off until some point after June 5, there's no telling when or if the Itsy Bitsy City will ever recover-- not that it would actually have all that far to go. Known as much now for its COVID-contaminated nursing homes as for its cramped mini-plats of postage stamp-sized lots and lack of meaningful shopping and dining amenities, the place remains one that smart money folks simply shun in favor of nicer (and cheaper) digs out west. Well, things could hardly get much better weather-wise than what we fortunates were able to enjoy out here in the fabulous Sweet Spot yesterday, but it looks like Mother Nature will give it a try anyway. It was quite a wonderful 61 degrees outside when I awoke and began to check on things, and while the humidity has ticked up a bit, it is still barely beyond 50%. Bright blue skies and soft breezes made the trip out and back to grab up the morning paper more of a tour than an errand. Did discover in the process though that some creature -- likely the fat raccoon --had torn down one of the bird-feeders out over the back patio. I was able to institute a temporary fix while I was out, but more robust repairs will have to wait for later on.

Meanwhile, in the wake of being so seriously mocked by Mayor Bowser and failing to see his call for 10,000 troops to come to any sort of fruition, the unbalanced President Ding Dong has moved on to lashing out once again, this time using his executive powers to remove a variety of legal protections for workers, consumers, investors, and the environment. None of those is at all vulnerable at this time, of course. The spoiled brat loser just can't abide reality. But do keep in mind that his 74th birthday is coming up on June 14, so be ready to send off some appropriate message to the White House to convey appropriate sentiments to him.

In other news, MLB is still stuck on a militant form of stupid, unable to come up with any plan or even a single idea that might be of interest to players. Meanwhile, the clock ticks on, marking time to the moment when all hope is lost.

Well, it seems to be just about all over now for these worn down Whiffies. Maybe they should go out for another invigorating run to restore spirits and work off a few of their mounting numbers of frustrations. Don't know why they never chose to run past the likes of the long-closed Karaoke Idol or the newly opened Luzmary of course, or even walked or ran that way while headed over to the former location of the German Gourmet. Perhaps it was simple fear of 30-foot cliffs.

Meanwhile, it was just a wonderful day for back-to-back absences from the fabulous Sweet Spot yesterday, first for purposes of getting a first pedicure in three months finally done. The feet say 'Thank goodness for Phase One!' And then, it was off to Vienna for a terrific al fresco lunch with The Principals, another thing we had not been able to do since back in March. Let's see, there was halibut, lobster ravioli, veal Oscar, and a filet around the cool and shaded table after delicious bread, family style Caesar salads, and avocado stuffed with crabmeat had started things off. Fresh raspberries and creme brulee cheesecake for dessert. We ended up being there for a pretty long time catching up on things that don't really fit all that well into FaceTime. Long enough it was that we managed to polish off three bottles of a laid back Tuscan pinot grigio, plus irish coffees all around. Yum! So that's another 500 more than worth it bucks tacked onto the equity line, and the wife's car is in for a medical checkup today as well, so more will surely be coming along. I think the $200K limit is plenty safe though.

It was meanwhile 70 degrees outside when I got up this morning with light, friendly breezes and plenty of sun. Thin wispy clouds streaked the sky as I journeyed down and back to retrieve the morning paper. Atill quite pleasant out there, but the thermometer is up about ten degrees from Monday, and the humidity by about ten points, so nice, but not as nice as over these past two days. We should see 90 degrees by mid afternoon, so that could be a time to take cover.

We should also see some common sense in the White House by mid-afternoon, but that won't be happening, as the same old President Ding Dong will still be lying and living there instead of anyone with a grain of sense. He's just thrown up his hands on the COVID pandemic now and done much the same thing with the staggering economy. Well, so much for the Whiffies. Unable to find any actual examples of these lies they so try to crow about, they've flown off to that great Potomac Mills in the sky, it would seem. They won't find any there either. What I found when I first woke this morning out here in the wondrous Sweet Spot meanwhile, was 77 degrees under partly cloudy skies with bunches of Santinis's left-overs waiting to become somebody's breakfast. Yum. Still have a spot of Veal Oscar left over from Monday's fabulous venture into fine Viennese outdoor dining. I'll polish that off sometime today as well, but for right now, a four-inch chunk of a Godfather, a slice of pizza, and a can of Amy's Chunky Tomato Bisque will do just fine. If it were later in the day, I'd chop up and add a Campari tomato to the soup to make it even chunkier and more flavorful, but that might be overkill for breakfast.

In any case, it's going to be something of a borderline hot and sticky one out there today. The thermometer will touch the 90-degree mark later, and the humidity has crept back up past 70%. Neither of those is terrible, but the two together offer a sign of more oppressive things to come. 'Warm' was what I noticed first when stepping out earlier to go retrieve the morning paper from the far end of the driveway, and that's rarely a good thing. Better perhpas than 'frigid', but still not really a good thing. Neither was the absence of wildlife along the way down and back, but things can turn on a dime at this rime of year, so we'll keep an eye out for whatever might come this way later on.

The cleaning people were here yesterday and while the wife's auto was also off to the clinic, diagnostics there failed to uncover a need for anything more serious than a nice bath. So it's a clean bill of health now for both the car and the house. Life is good. My own car needs to go in for a post-COVID review here soon as well. Hopefully, it too will come through with flying colors.

Never coming through anything at all with flying colors of course is worthless lying President Ding Dong, now off on a brain-fart rampage about the 75-year old man knocked to the ground by Buffalo police having been an Antifa provocateur. In other news, it is increasingly a very sad fact that MLB would rather just torch the place by unilaterally imposing a 50-game regular season schedule as if players will have no choice but to cave and go along with such a thing. This is la-la-land thinking that is not going to work out well for anyone.

Not much different really from living in that miserable abyss over in Falls Church City, where March/April data show that sales tax revenues were down 25 percent, meals tax revenues were down 65 percent, and transient tax revenues were down 90 percent. These rates were worse than the really bad rates that had been feared back in March, suggesting that residents and businesses will simply be 'on their own' here shortly. Not a pretty scene.

Wanted to get all that taken care of before the chance of thunder showers got too severe. Those should mainly threaten between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, so we're all good at this point. We should max out in the mid 80's this afternoon with the humidity in that same mid 80's range. A little on the sticky side, but there are at least some easy breezes blowing out there to keep the air moving around.

President Ding Dong ought to be moving around also, specifically back to further inspect his his bunker, according to local leaders in Seattle who don't seem to find Trump's violent pot-stirring to be of any help at all in dealing with local protest marches. It's hard to imagine someone with such connections being so far out of the loop. Then again, he thought injecting Lysol might be a good way to deal with COVID, so we know there's just no limit to his dumbness. Apparently, being a 'stable genius' isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

In other news, folks at MLB were too busy with the 2020 Amateur draft to muck up much of anything else. The Nats got themselves a project with the 22nd overall pick, as RHP Cade Cavalli has plus stuff but lacks consistency and sometimes command. We've had some pretty good luck developing these raw-talent sort of kids, so maybe we can make Cavalli into something as well.

Not likely ever to become anything at all of course are these perennial loser prospects over in Falls Church City.
