Should end up being a pretty decent day to venture into town for some artisanal goodies. A shipment of coffee from afar arrived yesterday, so cupboards that had started to look a bit bare will soon be flush once again with some of our favorite items.

Today, the wife and I (<<< proper English) will be sleeping in through at least mid-morning after a long day in the city yesterday. We set out at about 11:00, but had to revise our usual route in several places on account of road closures due to downtown events. Managed to pick up stocks of artisanal goodies alright, but it made no sense to head home again at that point. So we settled into an SWDC Mickey D’s so as to have access to food, drink and restrooms for a while. Remarkably, we got a parking spot right at their front door. The GEICO Garage was the next stop. We arrived a little before their scheduled 2:05 opening, but they waved us in right away. About 45 minutes later, we picked up our weird CJ Abrams t-shirts and were whisked up to our Champions Club seats. There, we shared a large and warm soft pretzel with cheese sauce followed by a large fruit bowl that lasted into the late innings. Sadly, the Nats did not, but so it goes sometimes. Anyway, a busy day that for us will be followed by a period of serious erranding here on the home fronts. Such are the lives of wealthy Sweet Spot retirees.

You don't need to 'renew' but you do need to file 990/990 PF/990-EZ/990-Ns annually. Three years without 'annual communication' results in automatic revocation.
Furthermore, active 501(c)(3)s are listed by the IRC and searchable by multiple sources (TEOS, bulk data, revocations, etc.). The Alex Fund, the Alex Thomas Effort Award Fund, no other similarly named entities, or any named otherwise with similar purpose are 501(c)(3)s.
In addition there are the VA tax requirements and data sources if you want to try to go there.

Some of the ‘McMansions’ added to the neighborhood over the years have turned out to be habitable, but others have not worked out as well. We’ve done better than most simply through high-end expansion and renovation of the interior of the big house on the hill, coupled with an upgrading of the lawns and gardens, including of course through multiple visits by spade trucks.
