Well, we have little choice out here in the wondrous Sweet Spot but to lash ourselves to the mast and forge ahead through the worst of this bit of a late-season cold spell. It was a mere 48 degrees when I arose this morning and that came with clouds and fog and mist and drizzle that made for a much less than inspiring scene. Quite a departure from our usual experiences out this way. Fortunately, there was hardly a breeze at all out there, so the trip down and back to retrieve the morning paper was not as bad as it might have been. We won't in any case be making it past the mid-50's today, and we're at some risk of actual rain falling over much of the afternoon as well as later in the evening. So it goes. Have not encountered any of our wildlife friends thus far today, but we did end up with two fox-sightings yesterday, so it surely won't be long before some number of these creatures reappears.

No one knows when the Coronavirus Task Force might reappear though, as the 'inject yourself with Lysol' moment has made all that into quite the liability for President Ding Dong. Looks like he'll just deep six Birx and Fauci and focus instead on all this economic 'good news' that we're having here just now. He'll simply pretend that all our one-time health issues have now been resolved thanks to the great job that Mike and Jared were able to do. What a team! After all, we always knew that "It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear." Aspirational thinking, some might sheepishly say. Bullshit, others might more boldly call it.

In other news, we had tickets (and of course, in-stadium parking) for last night's scheduled Nats-ARZ game, but for a ninth time this year, we instead spent the evening at home, this time changing kitty litter while intermittently pausing to laugh at some reliably foolish on-line babbling. Not the grandest way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but we sometimes just have to make do in these trying times.

It's of course always trying times for the dolts and dimbulbs trapped in the decaying dumps of Falls Church City. With nobody much having responded so far, the deadline for applying for one of the City's $2K small business grants has been pushed back by a week to 11:30 PM on Friday, May 15. Officials have said that FCC will 're-open' based on Gov. Northams's data-driven guidelines, so not much may happen for a while. There was a spike in local COVID numbers this past weekend, so little actual progress toward meeting anything has been made so far. We could be in for quite a long haul here.
