Well, we've done a little bit of meteorological back-sliding today here in the incomparable Sweet Spot that so many of these dufus douchebags can only dream about. Under cloudy skies, it was a mere 34 degrees when I awoke this morning, and while it's nice to see that sunrise is at last back to happening prior to 7:00 AM, it doesn't look like we'll be reaching even the 40 degree mark later on. More of the same tomorrow, though we will be seeing a return of the sun at that time. As for today, I went with a heavy flannel shirt and was quite comfortable on a run over to town to pick up new supplies of delicicious breakfast and other goodies. No wildlife encounters along the way though. Just the usual birds and squirrels.
In other news, congrats to ex-Nat and solid two-way player Brian Goodwin, who won his arbitration case against the Angels yesterday. He'll make $2.2 million this year, even more than what typical wealthy retirees tend to make. Best wishes as well to ex-Nat first-rounder Dane Dunning, one of the pieces in the trade for Adam Eaton, who had to undergo TJ surgery almost a year ago. He'll be throwing some live BP in camp and could be ready to take a minor league mound in May. It further appears that Max Scherzer will be on the mound for the Nats' Spring Training opener against the Astros on Saturday. They probably won't let him go more than two innings (or maybe 30 pitches) though, even if he says he feels great. He'll turn 36 in July and we've got some other good pitchers who need work, so no sense getting all pushy about things at this stage of the game.
More than a little bit pushy yesterday was Braves OF Nick Markakis, who expressed his belief that every Astros player deserves a beating for what was done to the game in their calamitous sign-stealing schemes. Should probably throw Rob Manfred under that same bus, as it was his failed leadership that brought this whole mess into being, and then his miserable waffling that made things grow only worse and worse and worse.
Worse and worse and worse of course is an apt chorus also when it comes to the state of affairs in miserable little Falls Church City, not to mention that of the ridiculous cadrés of fail-army imps, wimps, dopes, dumbfucks and poorly educated cubicle slugs who are apparently still stuck living there. People with any actual sense or money of course bypass that pitiful place completely, heading out to live instead where actual yards are common and actual shopping, dining, and other amenities are plentiful instead of being basically non=existent. Nope, downscale hell-holes are just not a proper place to live.

Well, now we have Part Deux of the freezeree double-whammy coming down upon us. We're faring better in all this than many located not so far away, but it was still just 21 degrees at sun-up out here in the glorious Sweet Spot that, on account of massive envy and butthurt, so many out there simply hate to be reminded of. We'll again not be making it out of the 30's today, and there will be pesky breezes to make things feel even worse than they actually are, but it will at least be bright and sunny out there this time around. In better news than that, all this cold is about to be driven out of here. We should have a five-day stretch with temps in the 50's to look forward to next, though maybe half of those days will be bringing rain into the area again. Be aware of that over there in those flood-prone eastern provinces!
So last night's work/play charity session over at Coastal Flats in Tysons went no worse than reasonably well. We didn't get all our issues ironed out, but we made good progress on most and will do another session early next week to move things along further. All that was in addition to a nice opportunity to enjoy some Baby Cake Sliders and a bit of Shrimp/Crab Louie, then a tasty medium-rare filet with mashed potatoes. That comes with a refreshing plate of field greens in a tangy house dressing. They ask in advance if you're okay with that, but unless you're some dispirited inchoate dope, the only sensible reply is 'Yes'. The wife meanwhile had the salmon filet, and it was the quite passable house pinot grigio (Stella-Umbria) that went well with all that. I don't like it nearly as much as my own, but the wife insisted that we order the bread pudding for dessert, so we split that with our coffee.
In other news, today is the last day for a good long while on which there will be no televised baseball to tune into. It was about ten minutes to midnight on Oct 30 when Daniel Hudson tossed his glove in celebration of a 2019 World Series Championship for DC, but now it's time to prepare for the 2020 Blue Jays and Yankees on MLB Network live from Tampa at 1:00 PM on Saturday. The Nats and Astros be on MASN live at 6:00 PM, so a chance there to see how the baseball public might treat the HOU villains in person this year. It's not likely to be such a pretty scene.

And Rob Manfred was doing what at the time? Oh yeah, trying to promote his idiot 'pace of play' nonsense by limiting mound visits from which signs could not be stolen and sequences could be quickly changed. Manfred is just a disgraceful, complicit slug in all of this.
Slugs are of course commonplace in dark, dank places such as the pits of Falls Church City. Outrage there has continued to mount this week over damage particularly to small businesses that would be done by the Hitt-less Insight Group's latest plan to decimate the downtown central business district via the brutal Broad-Washington Project. Might as well just change the name of the place to 'New Ballston' if all this is going to be allowed to move forward.
So last night's work/play charity session over at Coastal Flats in Tysons went no worse than reasonably well. We didn't get all our issues ironed out, but we made good progress on most and will do another session early next week to move things along further. All that was in addition to a nice opportunity to enjoy some Baby Cake Sliders and a bit of Shrimp/Crab Louie, then a tasty medium-rare filet with mashed potatoes. That comes with a refreshing plate of field greens in a tangy house dressing. They ask in advance if you're okay with that, but unless you're some dispirited inchoate dope, the only sensible reply is 'Yes'. The wife meanwhile had the salmon filet, and it was the quite passable house pinot grigio (Stella-Umbria) that went well with all that. I don't like it nearly as much as my own, but the wife insisted that we order the bread pudding for dessert, so we split that with our coffee.
In other news, today is the last day for a good long while on which there will be no televised baseball to tune into. It was about ten minutes to midnight on Oct 30 when Daniel Hudson tossed his glove in celebration of a 2019 World Series Championship for DC, but now it's time to prepare for the 2020 Blue Jays and Yankees on MLB Network live from Tampa at 1:00 PM on Saturday. The Nats and Astros be on MASN live at 6:00 PM, so a chance there to see how the baseball public might treat the HOU villains in person this year. It's not likely to be such a pretty scene.

Well, things are still expected to improve weather-wise out here in the Sweet Spot today, but 23 degrees at sun-up was not really a very convincing start to that. On the plus side, there's no wind of note out there, and we do have quite a lot of beautiful sunshine streaming down across the property, and in the continuing absence of leaves on the trees, it's pouring in through the broad and picturesque banks of east-side windows as well. This has led cats to the taking up of favored positions on the dining room carpet where they might contentedly soak up as much of that warming sun as possible. And the forecast does indeed still call for a swift run upstairs into the mid 40's by the noon hour and the low 50's by 3:00 PM or so. That will be welcome relief from the rather frigid conditions of the last couple of days.
In other news, David Ortiz is getting some deserved blowback over attempts to call out Mike Fiers as a 'snitch' for having spoken out about years of cheating by the Astros. Time was when cheaters were more the problem than those who report the cheating, and Ortiz is old enough to have known such times. He is only doing his image and legacy a disservice in going after Fiers. Wrong place, wrong time, wrong take on the matter.
Meanwhile, TEX and KC had the honor of playing the first actual MLB exhibition game yesterday with the Rangers prevailing, 5-4. The real stuff gets underway today, with TOR vs NYY from Tampa at 1:00 PM to start things off. That'll be on the MLB Network. Either that or Cash Cab will have to go on the DVR, but then at 6:00, the Nats open their Spring schedule on MASN against good old HOU. At 9:00, it's back to MLB to catch a replay of LA against SF from beautiful downtown Scottsdale. On Sundsy, MLB will bring us games at 12;00, 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00 AM, then again at 1:00, 4:00, 8:00, ans 11:00 PM. Say hallelujah!
Also of some note is that everyone's favorite ex-Nat (Trevor Rosenthal) fired a 1-2-3 inning with a pair strikeouts in his debut for the Royals yesterday. There was a reason Rizzo gave him a shot last year, and it wouldn't be out of the question for him to come on and have a good year for Kansas City.
Certainly out of the question of course would be a good anything coming out of these tattered twits and tramps from Falls Church City. Perpetual liars and worse than that, these assholes have nothing at all of value to put on the table. After tawdry examples of their massive levels of ignorance, envy, and butthurt, these dopes are just played out completely. Sorrier sacks of shit could hardly be imagined.

Well, we did manage to make our way to some rather pleasant temperatures out here in the ever so delightful Sweet Spot yesterday afternoon. But now, we've been cruelly sent back to Square-1 with a sunrise reading of a crummy 24 degrees. Fortunately, expectations are that we'll simply retrace that declining path in fairly short order, ultimately finding ourselves once again with sunny skies and temps in the mid-50's. I think we can live with that. No wind to speak of out there and no chance of any rain at all, so once we can get this thermometer thing under control, it should be another fine day for the fortunate.
In other news, I just couldn't take three Evil Empire hours worth of Michael Kay and Ken Singleton, so I pretty quickly switched over to good old Ben Bailey. He rocks. In the scheduled nightcap meanwhile, Max Scherzer looked just fine in a 22-pitch, two inning stint. Christian Javier looked even better for the Cheaters over his two innings, but then some unanticipated rains came floating down the coast and brought the proceedings in West Palm Beach to a close. Sadly 'Bob and FP' were in mid-season milquetoast form, with FP's attempt to 'one and done' the Astros sign-stealing scandal having been particularly lame. Did catch a little bit of the Orioles at the Braves new complex this morning, with the former not actually scoring any runs in the contest. Could be another long year in Charm City. Today, the headline games are NYY at TB at 1:00 (which should have the far more palatable Dewayne Staats behind the mike) and then the Rockies at Anaheim at 4:00, meaning a chance to check in on Anthony Rendon (and some other ex-Nats) while enjoying the call of Terry Smith and Jose Mota.
There will of course be no enjoyment of any call at all emanating from the sadder than sorry depths of fumble-fuck Falls Church City. As demonstrated above, denizens there can only descend ever further into a sickening cesspool of ludicrous lies and perverse pretensions. It's the best the losers can do though, burdened as they are with such desperately heavy loads of both ancient and latter-day shame, ignorance, envy, and butthurt.

Wel, despite some not uncommon overnight clatter from the sadly ever so stupid folks, the new morning has brought promise to us out here in the noble Sweet Spot of another fine enough February day. Things did not look so good early on with a reading of just 30 degrees at sunrise, but we should be into the 50's somehere by noon and then just go from there. Not much chance we'll reach 60, but we might get close. I was already encouraged enough earlier to venture out and retrieve the morning paper, and while things were on the cool side and no wildlife reps were out there waiting to greet me, it was still a pleasant enough trip all in all. It's quite sunny just now with negligible winds, but some clouds are expected to move in later in the day, and we could even be seeing some showers overnight.
In other news, most teams took a pass on having actual starters in the line-up for yesterday's Grapefruit and Cactus League games. That's of course a normal thing early in Spring Training, but not so much for Game-1. Interestingly, the Mets' announcers on Sunday spent a couple of innings reporting the bad reception fans had given to Astros players going up against the Nats prior to Saturday night's two-inning rain-out. And their lineup had not included a single name player. Looks like it's going to be a long, hard year for those guys, and deservedly so.
Meanwhile, Erick Fedde gave up a run to MIA in his first Spring appearance on Sunday. He has a promising future, but he also has options left, where Austin Voth and Joe Ross do not. That could be a big factor in determining who goes north with the big club. The fact that Voth had three K's in two clean innings yesterday is a further step toward his likely making the club.
Ex-Nat Jefry Rodriguez meanwhile had a decent first outing for CLE. He could end up being the 4 or 5 guy there. And good old Gio Gonzalez was able to throw some long-toss yesterday. He's had shoulder issues going on this Spring. At 34 years of age, he should be able to mount a comeback, but we'll have to wait and see.
Not making any sort of comeback ever of course are the dreadfully dull-witted and education deprived dumbos from Falls Church City. Capable only of badly embarrassing themselves, these dopes will recite any sort of made-up fable or tall tale at all in futile hopes of rescuing themselves from the humiliation of an entirely evident and (for them) quite unfortunate reality. By the way, the reality that Redfin now reports is that there are currently 33 pending listings for sale in Brockmont. LOL!
