In other news, the Nats will open a weekend series at MIN tonight with our Trevor Williams set to oppose their Tyler Mahle. Neither one is typically an intimidator, so the game could be up for grabs. Meanwhile, MLB’s stickiness police have suspended Max Scherzer for ten days due to improper use of resin. Scherzer had intended to appeal, but changed his mind once he learned that the appeal would be heard by MLB’s John McHale, not an independent arbitrator. The plantation system isn’t dead yet.

Definitely dead though are any hopes for good things to somehow start happening in fizzled Falls Church City. Some found it worthwhile to drive over to Reston Town Center for dinner last night, but no one is likely to make any such decision with regard to the dining desert of FCC. There’s just nothing there at any level to make any sort of a drive worthwhile.

In other news, things were looking all too familiar in Minneapolis last night as the punchless Nats limped into the late innings down by 2-0. But long-dormant Joey Meneses came through with a solo shot to center in the 7th, and both Lane Thomas and Keibert Ruiz ripped 2-out RBI singles in the 8th. Hunter Harvey used 18 pitches to fan all three batters he faced in the bottom half, but Closer Kyle put the first two on in the bottom of the 9th. He got a line-out next and then induced anxious Jose Miranda to roll the first pitch into a quick 5-4-3 DP to end the ballgame. Yay, us! We can’t be swept by the Twins. We might be blown out today though, as not so hot Chad Kuhl faces their ace, Pablo Lopez in an afternoon contest.

Well, since 3:00 yesterday afternoon, we’ve seen everything that the Whiffie class can honestly lay on the table — exactly nothing. This is who they are. This is where they live,

Where the wife and I live meanwhile, it’s gotten about 20 degrees cooler all of a sudden. Might see some cloudiness this afternoon as well, but it was still bright and sunny out there when i got up, just sitting at 47 degrees. The high today will be in the low 60s, which is nice enough, but a far cry from the upper 80s of recent days. And the wife and I have hit some bumps in the road in our recent tax work. She forgot to attach some relevant 1099s to our federal return before mailing, so we’ll (eventually) be hearing from the IRS about that. And neither of us is familiar with the revised State Schedule A for 2022, so we’ll need to study that for a bit. Should still be all wrapped up by Friday.

Real President Joe is meanwhile expected to disclose his re-election plans on Tom Tuesday. His actual record of course is one that anyone would be thrilled to run on, but with FOX News still as their guiding light, right-wing cuckoos and whack-jobs will very much want to focus elsewhere. But not at all on the mounting mess of Clarence Thomas, a sleaze who should never have been confirmed to the Court to begin with.

The plain facts are of course that there is no actual purpose to a debt limit other than to allow breast-beating show-boaters to campaign as ‘fiscal conservatives’. In other news, the Nats fizzled out in Minnesota on Sunday, dropping a 3-1 decision that they could easily have avoided but never did. They are off today, but will face the Mets in New York tomorrow night. Josiah Gray should be set to go for us, while NYM will decide later.

The decision on FCC has long been in of course, and it’s just not good. An idiot surplus plus a paucity of normal urban amenities have long branded the place as substandard, and such conditions are not apt to be changing anytime soon. The best bet as always is simply to stay away from the place.

In other news, in their fifth try, the Nats finally did score an actual run while Jojo Gray was on the mound. Impressive lately, Mason Thompso. n then fired three innings of one-hit, shutout ball, posting four strikeouts of his own to close out a decisive 5-0 victory over the Mets. The two teams will meet again this evening with young lefty Mackenzie Gore taking on righty Kodai Senga (30) who is 3-0 on the season so far. Could be a steep hill.

As some have never noticed, there is a steep, 30-foot cliff cutting across what used to be South Falls Church. A lot of rose quartz was dug out of there back in the day, but it’s little other than simpleton stuff and nonsense that comes out of the FCC area these days, HOV and RAMW claims having been recent cockamamie examples. The City Council has meanwhile decreed that the Falls Green polling place should be ended (effective immediatly) with voters sent back to the Community Center. Time marches on.

No, we did receive a complimentary cheese and herb flatbread to start the night and out, then some squash and goat cheese ravioli. The wife then went with lollipop lamb chops and I chose fettuccine with veal and chicken. Yummy stuff.

Meal must have been delicious. Complimentary items are always appreciated and extra tasty.

Ah yes, the many pleasures of another tasty evening at Pazzo Pomodoro. It was a last minute thing, but glad we made the call. I was instantly looking forward to ordering the house-made soup of the day, but it turned out to be melon and cucumber. Maybe next time. A nevertheless excellent meal came to $240 for the two of us, including dessert, a bottle of Pinot Grigio, and as always a generous tip. We didn’t finish the wine this time, but the rest of it and three boxes of leftovers are now in a Sweet Spot fridge. Bodes well for later on. We also have the pleasure of another sparkling morning out our way today. It was a crisp 46 degrees when I got up with blue skies and lots of sunshine. North winds were barely noticeable at 2 mph. Should reach the low 70s later on with a few clouds and perhaps some sprinkles, but not much chance of any actual rain.

Real President Joe will meanwhile have to endure the same old tedious chirping of the Chicken Littles after this morning’s GDP report. Inflation or recession: the clownies are always complaining about one of them. And then there’s this latest bit of GOP debt limit fraud to laugh at. Kudos as well to Hunter Harvey on a nifty trip through the 7th and 8th. Five big outs with no hits and 3 K’s. He’s another Mason Thompson. We’ve got to play the Mets again tonight, and we’re fresh out of young aces. So we’ll send so-so Trevor Williams out against tough lefty Joey Lucchesi and hope for the best.

The best can never be hoped for of course in always faltering Falls Church City. This is a place that lost its way some sixty years ago and isn’t likely to be bouncing back any time soon. The whole image of a quaint and family-friendly suburban village had quite gone up in smoke. And of course diesel fumes.
