Whilst they wish to pretend otherwise, the days of their sorry southern sojourn came to an end this past Sunday at the northern end of another 870-mile trek through lands of unnecessary COVID exposure. I don't imagine that dining out at the homes of paper plates and PVC furniture would have brought much in the way of consolation either. Not really. Life is on the whole good for wealthy retirees, and especially so out here in the Sweet Spot. We’d certainly like to get back to being able to use our half-season tickets and reserved in-stadium parking sometime this season, but we’re pretty much good otherwise.

Well. the poor Whiffies have been set to all manner of frenetic, nonsensical caterwauling here of late, much of that due to dangerous over-exposure to the name Brookmont Bob. It's a tiny, Delray-like enclave ("tiny" here meaning the same size as Falls Church City) that lies between Bethesda and the Potomac River. It is principally noted for two things -- its spectacular western vistas, and the large number of kayakers found among its year-round population. The training and competition runs in the waters below Brookmont are a magnet for collegiate and Olympic-level competitors. I don't know if Falls Church has a decent place to skateboard.

Well, the problem there would be that we don’t know any COVID nurses. We do of course know some high-end restaurant professionals, but they are both working tonight. That said, New Year’s Eve out is a little like Restaurant Week or North Florida in late December — best just not to go there at all. Did pick up some extra cheesy Pesto Tortellini when I was out earlier, so we’ll just reheat that at some point and enjoy with some Tuscan bread and a glass or two of Santa Margherita. Yum!

As none of you are likely ever to know, a $200K, 10/15 equity line is a high end financial management tool. Aside from small amounts of cash that we disinfect, put in plastic bags, and use as tips, pretty much all of our expenditures go through the equity line. Cool!

LOL! We have multiple seven-figure assets, and we're dimply awash in cash. We saw five Spring Training games and then forty-two regular season games washed out this year. Each of the latter resulted in about $200 not being spent that would have been otherwise. And thanks as well to COVID, our usual patterns of dining out have been pared back significantly. We commonly drop $500 on a meal for four without giving it a second thought. Consider as well the simple fact that I haven't had to buy gas in a dog's age, and I still have half a tank in the car. We have of course significantly upped our level of contributions to food banks and other such charities this year, as well as our contributions to the campaigns of our favored progressive politicians, and still, the bank balances continue to climb. And as of the new year, COLA's will kick in on multiple income streams. These are the sorts of problems that we have to deal with out here in the Sweet Spot. You dopes will of course never know them.

You might want to look up the difference between a CFA and a CFP, since you just used the wrong one. We do of course have a CFP at our wealth management firm. He's a little like the guy in the TD Ameritrade commercials, but he's competent and affable, so we've been with him for quite a while. He's gotten some promotions over the years and become a bit of a big-wig at the firm, but we still sit and talk twice a year or whenever any questions arise. We met not long ago because while we did want to pass on this year's RMD, we needed to have federal and state taxes withheld as if we had taken it. Again, stuff that you'll never need to have any concern over.

Well, in part because we can afford very good health insurance, I see doctors in multiple specialties on a regular basis. In other scenarios, this might be seen as 'establishing a perimeter.' In any case, I am told by these highly trained and well regarded professionals that I have little to be concerned over at this point. Nothing is guaranteed to any of us of course, including all the many 20- and 30-somethings who will come to their ends long before I do. Let's be careful out there.

Well, I should report I guess that the extra cheesy pesto tortellini last night was really good. I'd not had that dish before, but it would seem a safe bet that we'll have it again soon. Meanwhile, the worn out Whiffies continue to squeak away to no discernible end in their precious FCC hamster wheel of uninformed foolishness, just as they've been doing since their return from the tundra last Sunday. Meanwhile, we had some rather Florida-like conditions out here in the Sweet Spot this morning -- temps in just the mid 30's and every chance of near-term rain. Or 'drizzle', as some might call it. No real winds out there though, so it's not really the same thing. No nearby PVC or paper-plate eateries to patronize either. It does look like we're in for a little nastiness to start the new year though. Could get up to half an inch of wetness today before it all turns into a sunny and mid 50's day tomorrow. We can make it!

Not making it at all of course is the now ever so passé President Ding Dong. As is his wont of course, there's good chance that the schmuck will incite DC crowds to violence while trying to pull off one or more cruel and pernicious stunts before being relegated to one of the lesser neighborhoods of the scrap heap of history. Maybe he'll bomb Iran, just to one-up John McCain. He's just the type of turd to do a thing like that -- start a war and then insist that we need to stay the course? In other news, there isn't much to report, and while you never know, the likelihood is that we'll be well into next week before the pot begins to boil again. Certainly, the Nats have things they want to do, but they may have even more things that they don't want to do at this point. There just isn't much in the way of certainty going on out there.

There is of course great certainty over the fact that Falls Church City is and will remain a dump in 2021. They did finally get around to removing the names of Mason and Jefferson from two FCCPS schools this past year, and that was certainly an overdue step forward. But the rest of the City's often bulldozed landscape looks hardly promising, and there is little doubt that people with any actual money will continue to look elsewhere when seeking a place to call home.
