I wish I had never found this site. Aside from a small band of psycho's you didn't constantly have to deal with bullshit years ago. Now this site is nothing but bullshit. Just the message boards on news sites. Used to be able to have interesting, yet sometimes heated, discussions on current events. Not anymore. And there is one group of people who are responsible for all of it. Enough said.

Same old, same old. The successful people life have an array of financial resources from which to pick and choose as may be most expedient to the tasks at hand. Far less successful people have a much smaller range of choices available. $15 grand for a ten-day Spring Training trip is just totally beyond their reach.

I could do it any way I like, but only a dope would liquidate higher earning assets in order to use cash instead of open lines of credit. That’s just dumb. In other words, right up your alley.

What it tells us is that you don't have easy access to $15K in liquid disposable income. That you'd have to liquidate anything and that you a consider it to be a lot of money well qualifies you but not in the way that you'd like to think.

Come on, dopey. There in the latter case refers to your not being there in the financial sense and is a parallel to your lame use of there in the geographic sense. There is just so little you can keep up with on your own.

Here’s yet another clue: having access to cash is not a reason to use it, especially when use of already existing credit would be cheaper. It’s no wonder that you’ve never managed to accumulate any wealth.

Quick enough, and dinner was wonderful, as expected. Lobster bisque, a great wedge salad, shrimp and scallops with grape tomatoes in fish broth over homemade squid-ink pasta. And for dessert, a slice of buttermilk pie with sliced strawberries. Plenty good! Way better than Honey Pig.

Where did I indicate I was speaking of geography?

Where in the financial sense? Where you are? It would still be "here" if it were your financial situation.

Either way, you ain't there.

In any event, coming up with $15K on short notice is no big deal. Thinking it is, shows your limitations.

LOL! what a colossal dope! Can’t do finance, can’t do English.

Meanwhile, nice start from the Nats with a five-rum first inning. Sitting just across from Bob Boone. He enjoyed it too. High fives again for HR’s from Rendon and Zim in the 2nd to make it an 8-0 game.

Following are five situations that represent reasons not to use your HELOC as a source for funds.

1. Paying for a Vacation

Any time you use debt to pay for a vacation or to fund leisure and entertainment activities, it means you are living beyond your means. Although it is cheaper than paying with a credit card, it is still debt. If you generally can’t control your spending – or you rely heavily on debt to fund your lifestyle – borrowing from home equity will only exacerbate the problem.

Using your home as a checking account isn't novel or genius. It's what people with low cash flow and very little liquidity do. Fixed income will do that to you.

Kind of pedestrian after the fifth, but by then, six HR’s (including a pair by each of Gomes and Rendon) had made it a rout for the good guys. I will say that while it’s easy to get to, that ballpark in Port St. Lucie is crap. Tiny seats, narrow concourses, and getting out after the game was a nightmare. Glad we’ll be back home the rest of the way.

In my case, it’s what people with high cash flow do, and yes, liquidity is kept as low as possible because it is a direct trade-off against yield. I know — this has now gotten too advanced for you all to handle.

Decided to keep the positive vibes rolling by dining at J Alexander’s. Don’t have them up there in NoVa, but it’s sort of GAR-like with more noise and no Ozzie rolls. Excellent tangy house salad, very good deviled eggs (but not as good as GAR’s), excellent French Dip with actually rare beef and an A+ horseradish sauce. Very nice all in all. A fine way to top off a busy day. We’ve got Scherzer tomorrow against the Cards. We’ll see how long they let him go. Hope the bats can keep on clicking.

You nailed it. Notice how Trump never spends any of his own money on anything. Only 5% of people actually get rich by working hard. The other 95% steal, con or bully their way to millions. A rich person would sell their kids if it was legal.

Turned dark late though. Barraclough gave up dingers to a couple of banjo hitters in the 7th, and in the 9th, Doolittle had some control issues before giving up a bloop and a blast that turned this into an 8-5 loss. Quite disappointing, but so much better than lots of other afternoons.

LOL! Now he thinks a very basic breakfast is high society. It must be the fact that it's bacon AND sausage that leads him to believe it's living large.

Once again, it's these very inconsequential and mundane occurrences that he finds so profoundly awesome that reveal he's actually a nobody. Sad really.

At least he didn't have to take out a HELOC for breakfast. Then again, this financial genius is too stupid to understand that "free" breakfasts are built into whatever cost earned the breakfast.

Dummy parrots it back without understanding a single word of what he’s just been told. Let’s try it this way — the marginal cost of eating breakfast is $0. It is therefore free. And while perhaps not as upscale as at the Rittenhouse in Philadelphia, still more than just mundane.

Major bankroll would have $15K liquid at a moment's notice. Clearly, you do not. People who try too hard to convince others that they have major bankroll do not have major bankroll. Thet also don't spend their vacations constantly posting here.

Of course not. You can’t afford to.

At what cost? And how would it have compared to the cost of using already existing credit? This whole concept of liquidity being an opposite of yield seems to be quite foreign to you.

You may not know any ‘major bankroll’ people after me.

Just been relaxing with a nice cold beverage while waiting for the phones to recharge. Nice 10-5 win for the Nats overall today, one that you of course didn’t see. I think it was a total of 18 hits for the boys with just about everyone pitching in. Lots of downcast Mets fans shuffling out to the parking lots after the game. Poor babies. Hahahaha!

Mostly, I post here to fill in idle moments in the day or sometimes just to taunt the over-stuffed losers I know to be out there hanging on my every word.

So, your HELOC financed vacation is idle. It only exposes the fact that you're either still here or you're so consumed with people on this message board you respond while you're on vacation. Pathetic.

Boy, it’s just like Groundhog Day — another beautiful West Palm Beach morning. Partly cloudy early, but with temps headed up to the mid-70’s. And it’s almost time now for another delicious made-to-order FREE breakfast. And after that, I guess we’ll just be moseying on over to the ballpark again. Nats and the Marlins today with that Patrick Corbin guy on the hill for the homeside. The club has been looking strong here lately, so hopefully they can come up with another solid effort today.

Have you ever BEEN on vacation? It’s all about being idle rather being trapped in some meaningless rat race just to find the means to survive. Post above was scribbled while waiting for the wife to clear the bathroom. Right now, we’ve got fresh fruit, juice, coffee, and baked goods on the table, but still waiting for the hot foods to come off the flat-top. Another ‘idle moment’ of a type that you’ll not soon be enjoying.

Uh-oh...FREE food is here.

So, FREE food was just as good as always. But now, we have maybe 45 minutes of ‘idle’ time before we head off for the ballpark. Time enough to do a little taunting, such as by noting that there will be no entry on the bill when we check out for the cost of this morning’s breakfast nor for any of the others we’ve had since we first got here. That’s because breakfast is FREE. And much tastier than some can of hash and an imitation poached egg.

There are many complicated concepts in taxation and economics (which have tripped you up innumerable times) but “free” is not one of them. NOTHING is free. You may be familiar with the old adage “there is no such thing as a free lunch,” which stems from the observation that while some things may seem free there is always a cost, even if that cost is distributed among people who do not receive the benefits.

In this specific case we might coin our own phrase: “there is no such thing as a complimentary breakfast,” because, after all, "complimentary" is the more appropriate term. Only an unsophisticated rube would call it free. The cost of providing a “complimentary” breakfast is obviously included in the cost of lodging. While that cost is spread around to all guests, some of which may not actually eat the breakfast, it is not provided for free. A correct statement would be to say that for someone who has already made the decision to rent a hotel room, there is no marginal cost to eating that breakfast, but that does not make it free.

As for the corned beef, it never saw the side of a can. Rather, it was picked up from the butcher and prepared the semi-traditional way in a slaw cooker. Then combined with fresh sliced vegetables and herbs. Feel free to call a soft boiled egg an imitation poached egg, I really don't care.

Poor boy. I have 120 credit hours in Economics, multiple degrees and honoraries, and more than 40 years of experience as a practicing (and very well compensated) professional in the field. You continue to bring nothing at all to that particular table. What else have you got? More hash recipes?

All of your claims are refuted by the fact that you continue to claim that your breakfast provided by the hotel is free. You paid for it whether you consumed it or not, dummy. Hence, it isn't free. A true economist would recognize that. Hence, you're the furthest thing from an economist.

You have no credibility at all, dope. The marginal cost of eating breakfast is zero. The marginal cost of not eating breakfast is zero. There is exactly no cost distinction between the two, each leaving your cumulative cost unchanged. In other words, it’s free, free, free, free, free, free, free, free, free, free.

Wrong, so wrong. For someone who has already made the decision to rent a hotel room, there is no marginal cost to eating that breakfast, but that does NOT make it free. A lack of marginal cost does not make it free. You've already paid for it.

You're clearly not an economist. It's unclear if you even know anything about the field of economics. If would explain why you choose to pay interest to take a vacation. Just plain dumb.

More comic book nonsense. Being more elegant perhaps than anywhere you’ve ever stayed, the rooms here come with an entire range of FREE services — parking, air-conditioning, electric lighting, hot and cold running water, maid service, ice machine, fridge and microwave, exercise room, swimming pool, business office, newspaper drop-off, and of course, a made-to-order breakfast each morning. There is no charge for any of these things. They are all FREE.

No valet? Must be a dump.

All of the items you described are what people smarter than you call amenities. People smarter than you also recognize that none of them are free. In fact, they are all part of the variable costs that hotel management take into account to make the most prudent pricing decisions. You really are a rube.

Nope, valets here while numerous are all but exclusively for the many fine restaurants that we’ve been dining at. Otherwise, it’s for good reason assumed that you might want quick and easy access to you car throughout the day, and also that you might want a tasty and made-to-order FREE breakfast each morning.

All that I had to pay for was the room.

You can call it free all you want. Your betters will continue to laugh at you for not understanding that the cost of that breakfast along with other amenities (did you have to look that up?) you listed are variable costs factored in when determining the room rate by hotel management.

Most of the food on a cruise is free too, right? Dumbass.

The extents of your ignorance are indeed vast. But while you make a further fool of yourself trying to define the word ‘free’ out of existence, I’m off to dinner, where I might receive offers for various things at no additional cost — you know, FREE things.

Nobody is attempting to define the word free out of existence. That, again, would be mischaracterizing the situation. People are simply pointing out that you don't properly understand the concept of free.

Restaurants are notorious for giving you free things. Salt, pepper, straws, ketchup, napkins, etc. Dumbass probably thinks those items aren't factored into the costs of menu items.

The only thing you're getting for free is the ass kicking you so richly deserve here.

Keep in mind, folks, that this poser once claimed the vermin infested Quarry Inn in Falls Church was a lodging establishment catering to discerning business travelers. Given that background, it's no wonder he's such a rube when it comes to these things? Is it at all shocking that his unsophisticated ass would fall for the "free" breakfast thing?!?!

Nobody will ever confuse him for an economist.

Boy, it’s like clockwork — another beautiful morning in West Palm Beach. There’s supposed to be some actual rain later today, but before dealing with that, we’ll need to deal with yet another FREE breakfast where real (and delicious) goods and services will move in exchange for no sort of quid pro quo at all. It’s all just plain gratis, but limited sorts aren’t going to be able to grasp this. They’ll veer off into the one-sided weeds of the vendor’s replacement costs, never realizing that they are in fact trying to invalidate the word FREE entirely. So shallow indeed are rheir understandings of these things.

No, son...it was you who was doomed from my first taunting appearance here. There was never a doubt of baiting your stupid Falls Church ass out into the open. Been anticipated since riding the plane south to begin with. You’re just such an easy mark.

Meanwhile this FREE breakfast that I’m almost finished eating will be a no-charge-at-all item, but everything else will be taken care of lby the low-cost credit that my status affords me on a continuing basis. So will the thousands that I spend this month that are not related to Florida at all. This is just the way those with resources handle things. One pile. One bill. One detailed transaction statement for tax purposes, and all without disturbing the carefully constructed piles of income-earning assets.

Life is good — unless you’re one of it’s losers.

When you use a HELOC to pay for a vacation, the interest is not tax deductible. So, a detailed transaction statement for tax purposes is of no benefit unless you want it to act as a painful reminder that you stupidly paid interest to take a vacation.

Again, just because there is no itemized charge for a product or service does not mean it was free. Smarter people know that.
