DYK that it's illegal to hunt deer from a boat?

§ 29.1-549. Hunting deer from watercraft; confiscation of watercraft and weapons used.

A. Any person who kills or attempts to kill any deer while the person is in a boat or other type watercraft shall be guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor.

Which public school did you go to? A boat is a vehicle known as a watercraft.

Hey pgens - like usual you get up on your soapbox and spew uneducated horseshit. By definitiion (state and county) a boat IS NOT A VEHICLE.

I refer you to to 46.2-100 (Definitions), which states, in part:

"Vehicle" means every device in, on or by which any person or property is or may be transported or drawn on a highway, except devices moved by human power or used exclusively on stationary rails or tracks. For the purposes of Chapter 8 (§ 46.2-800 et seq.) of this title, bicycles, electric personal assistive mobility devices, electric power-assisted bicycles, and mopeds shall be vehicles while operated on a highway.

And § 29.1-700. (Definitions).

As used in this chapter, unless the context clearly requires a different meaning:

"Motorboat" means any vessel propelled by machinery whether or not the machinery is the principal source of propulsion.

"Personal watercraft" means a motorboat less than sixteen feet in length which uses an inboard motor powering a jet pump, as its primary motive power and which is designed to be operated by a person sitting, standing, or kneeling on, rather than in the conventional manner of sitting or standing inside, the vessel.

"Vessel" means every description of watercraft, other than a seaplane on the water, used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on water.

How the hell could machinery propel ANYTHING without being the principle source of propulsion?

AKA Jetski.

So even your leaky rowboat or canoe is a vessel.

Thanks for the legal definition, however I was answering dumbass' post that a boat is not a vehicle. I could give a shit what your legal definition says. A boat is a vehicle. Here, read this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle

If the VA House of Delegates positively voted on a bill that bikes don't have wheels I guess you'd be posting that and calling me full or horseshit too.

I think they are synchronized with the US House of Representatives election schedule. The Virginia General Assembly is comprised of the House of Delegates (2-year term) and the Senate (4-year term).

NO. It's illegal to hunt out of season or using (the wrong weapon), on the wrong property, to lure with salt licks, or lure with bright lights.

The law may seem like a loophole law made after a frivolous lawsuit against the government (that gov. paid some democrat - criminally to pass money between fraudulent parties) about safety.

But it's more likely a protection that is RARELY enforced to prevent hunters from hunting on land they do not own.

Follow me:

(1) it IS legal to be on the waterway if you are a citizen of the usa (no one owns it, it's public and consider it a CONSERVATORY). rio grande walking hispanics not included.

(2) if hunting were not dis-allowed from a boat, it would be legal to shoot from a boat

(3) if a deer was hit, legally the hunter would not be "hunting on that land", but only "removing a fallen deer" while on that land. KEEP FOCUSED. on the wrong land or off makes all the difference.

the law about shooting and (mistakenly) hitting an animal on someone else's property is different from "being on their land and hunting". completely DIFFERENT.

Are you getting any ideas yet?

there are technical hook laws that don't get enforced upon most that are there so they can prosecute those who would "racketeer" the rules

for this case: a racketeer would be poacher would try to use the water to hunt on other people's land without facing the laws reguarding that.

he might and it's his right to choose, this is the USA

the government is allowed to promote warnings however the Constitution forbids the government from upgrading a right to warn others to being criminal acts they can "enforce with immense funding"

it was illegal to have guns in boats, due to so many city people shooting their own boat and drowning

UNTIL Flex Seal saved everyone. it's now the law if you you hunt from your boat you MUST have a bottle of flex seal with you.

People would use dogs to drive deer to waters and then kill the deer as they swam. There's good reasons for game laws to keep Democrats from poaching

It's more interesting that the law prohibits only hunting deer. Hunting of fish, frogs, pheasant, bear, bison, and elk is allowed. Hunters can take heart; whereas bison have gone extinct in Virgina, elk occasionally wander through and have been reintroduced to the Commonwealth. Elk are very tasty, so feel free to blast away from the comfort of your bassboat.
