Popular apps secretly record your screen: but COX and Verizon do worse

https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2019/02/07/report-popular-iphone-apps-including-expedia-and-abercrombie-fitch-secretly-record-users-screens/

“TechCrunch has found several popular iPhone apps, from hoteliers, travel sites, airlines, cell phone carriers, banks and financiers, that don’t ask or make it clear — if at all — that they know exactly how you’re using their apps,” TechCrunch reported. “Worse, even though these apps are meant to mask certain fields, some expose sensitive data.”

ie, Overlay screens lift your credit card password. What they do is have an invisible surface you don't see on top, pass through all your interaction - looking for passwords to banking and other sites a thief would be interested in.

RedHat Linux (and then other linux and freeBSD (by Ubuntu injected into freeBSD) use a screen for all logins which they say is "to provide alternate login methods").

DOC/IS modems (all COX and Verizon) contain government technology (doc is), funded by Congress who's never owned up to the public for the expenditure.

DOC/IS allows COX and local police to browse whatever you are browsing live - to see what your doing on the internet.

If I catch them doing it to me without an un-arguable righteous warrant, I'm coming to their site with an axe to damage their equipment.

That's my "internet policy".

It's called "the Constitution strictly forbid government to search papers inside a home without a completely un-arguable warrant of arrest of the papers"

This is one reason why I openly protest apps. In the early days there were a few that actually made life easier. These days they are nothing more than a pain in the ass.

because doc/is acts as a full fledged pc computer inside your network, it would be EASY for a professional with access to doc/is capabilities to break into your home computers - not just watch what your doing - but log in

WARNING -- Internet sites such as BREITBART secretly rot your brain out. Others will be able to tell right away, but you'll never know what hit you.

On laptop, personally use SpyShelter with encryption with keystrokes and screen capturing blocking, etc., Malwarebytes including too exploit and ransomware protection, also a software firewall and anti-virus, a router firewall, browsing anti-scripting add on, and McAfee site advisor, keeping all of these updated with help of SUMo Software Update Monitor for software that does not automatically update, and common sense security practices with email and the web. Some of these are free and some are not, but when it comes to sensitive personal information such as SSN and date of birth, paying for protection through trusted sources is worth it vs. cleaning up the mess later. Besides a personal VPN, layered security really help thwarts issues. Since security is a cat and mouse game, even with all that, nothing is 100% and still have an occasional issue, and unexpected website hacking can especially cause you issues if you not protected. Security for smartphones is not all there yet, so avoid sensitive transactions on my device. The average especially non-technical user thinks just anti-virus software is enough, but sadly these days it is not.

That's DOCSIS -- Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification

And the rest of your screed is inane. For starters, the modem is outside my network: it's just the external interface. You know nothing about computers, networking, or hacking: STFU.

Brietbart's article is a unlettered and hyperbolized summary of the original piece from Tech Crunch. Reminds me of the shoddy "journalism" found in USA Today.

screening for passwords is exactly the software that the Clintons funded foreign hackers to create for (ubuntu)

i think win10 is an eves dropping tool

every time i turn off features to make it "network secure" more pop up saying it's not been secure

there seems to be no end to the number of features that "appear" in "Settings" that cause security breach.

turn them all off? a new option appears on an update that indicates yet another feature has been left insecure for quite a while

the good news for me is idk: it's a cheap pc for gaming i'd never trust.

DOC/IS LMAO.. Doesn't even know how to spell it.. DOCSIS, and they don't need do shit in the modem to capture your traffic, where do you think the traffic goes after it leaves your modem?? OHHH TO THE ISP'S NETWORK!!!! It doesn't make any sense for ANY ISP to capture traffic in the modem unless for troubleshooting. Like watch 10mins of youtube and you would know this.

You said it right. Corporations can use different tricks but a person can take care of the security of his personal data himself. Anyone can use this online resource to find out how the best vpn works. For me personally, the safety of my smartphone is much more important as I do a lot of transactions through a mobile wallet.
