Giant at corner of 50/Jermantown Road Closed. What's Moving In?
Posted by: Shake Yo Money Maker ()

The Giant located at the corner of 50 and Jermantown Rd. closed several months ago. What is moving into this location?

Drug and Rehab center around the corner where bums usually loiter. Perhaps they could turn this into luxury affordable housing complete with pool, hottub, sundeck, pet grooming station, fitness center, and outdoor lounge? Kind of like the Residences at Government Center, but higher-end and lower cost?

I haven't been around there for quite a while and didn't realize it had
closed but the employees used to tell me Wegman's was their downfall.
Also throw in the fact the nearby apartment complexes on Jermantown are
full of 3rd world cockroaches who cause all sorts of problems.
My son worked there for a couple of summers before college and he could
write a book. Women changing a baby's diapers in the bottom of a grocery
cart, drunks who come in at 7:00 a.m. wanting to buy beer and want to
fist fight when the clerk tells them no, the list goes on. I like Wegman's.

LMAO. Oh, I could wish.

Gotta be more housing like everything else here. Let's add another 100-200 cars onto the road and 200-300 kids into the overcrowded schools, and not compel the developers to pay any impact fees to pay for improving the roads and schools - like they do in most sane parts of the country.

Hechingers opened at that location in the mid 1970's. If you go to the back side of the building you can see the block coated with the Hechinger Blue coating.

Could anybody direct me to the Native Born Middle Class Welcome Center? Perhaps they could offer some free handouts like Gillette razors, starbucks mochachinos, and some yummy ben and jerry's ice cream? Chocolate Fudge Brownie is my favorite!

Wearing a star pin because his sons in the service, when he never served that's a real cuck with that. Ive never once seen anyone do that either on personal clothing, decals on cars are fine, on flags at the house fine that's how it started in WW2 blue star to show you had a son or daughter in the military gold star if they were killed , but not on suits like your a vet with a personal decoration. Most people see that pin and think "he's been in the military and was decorated" "he's a hero" No people He's A Cheap Fake riding on his sons service !

My daddy did this in the war and that in the war !

What did you do ?

Funny! Trivia: What remains of the Woolworth's empire still exists--as Foot Locker stores. That's it. The company that built what was then the tallest building in Manhattan from 1913 to 1930 now comprises a bunch of mall storefronts.

Confirmed also by this post

Question now is when will it open? (though its not my taste in food)

If you are asking if Paul VI is closing, sort of. They are leaving the Fairfax City location and moving to Loudoun County. If you are asking if they are going to tear down all the buildings on the current Paul VI property, I would say no. One of the reasons Paul VI is leaving is that Fairfax will not allow them to expand or modify the existing facilities. I believe they are designated "historical" and subject to all kinds of regulations. I have not heard a hint of what/who would possibly move in there. All I know is depending on where you live in Fairfax County, that is a hell of a commute to the future Paul VI campus to go to school everyday.

I will level that former Giant and built a 5 story apt condo building with some walk in office condos there too for medical and other professionals over top of a 2 level garage and first floor numerous small space 750 to 1200 retail in strip mall style unless I get a whale to bite for the whole enchilada on the first floor but I like the small space concept to give budding small business owners a chance to get retail space and I will probably go with that.

WBJ says another assian supermarket called 99 ranch

The city of Fairfax is getting a new grocery option in 99 Ranch Market, a popular Asian grocery store from the West Coast that includes a food court.

99 Ranch will open in a 54,000 square foot space at 10780 Fairfax Blvd. that previously housed Super H Mart, another Asian grocery store.

In fact, there’s a bit of grocery musical chairs going on in Fairfax: The reason the former Super H Mart space was available was because it moved into a 60,000-square-foot former Giant grocery store space at Jermantown Road and U.S. Route 50.

Giant closed that store in 2018 in preparation for a brand new Giant at Scout on the Circle, a Combined Properties development. Combined and Giant recently began construction on the 54,000-square-foot store at 9500 Fairfax Blvd.

The Super H Mart is expected to open Oct. 18. 99 Ranch Market recently filed building permits to renovate the former Super H store.

99 Ranch Market has more than 50 stores in the U.S., most of them in California and on the West Coast. The chain more recently started branching into the East Coast, and has one location in Gaithersburg and three in the New York tri-state area.

The Fairfax store will include a food court element, with individual tenants operating stalls selling dishes that can be eaten in-house or taken to go, including a possible bakery, hot sandwich shop, specialty drinks counter and a vegan deli. 99 Ranch is seeking tenants for its food halls on its website.

But 99 Ranch isn’t the only market with a food hall coming to Fairfax. Super H also applied for a food hall with six vendors, including a French bakery, according to a Fairfax County spokesperson. That store also applied for a license to serve beer.

Earlier this week, Whole Foods Market said that it planned to have a food hall element to its new store at The Boro in Tysons as well.

The new H Mart has draft beer for 99 cents. I guess they are not aware of the large homeless population that lives amongst all those buildings between Jermantown and Waples Mill/I66. The Giant had a horrible problem with them shoplifting alcohol.
