I live right next to it and am not a fan of Giants (the only grocery store in the immediate area) so I'm kinda excited for its arrival. Is that okay with you boss?

Poor Harris Teeter, what a shitty day to open their new store.

I'm way excited and stopping by tonight. It's 24 hours! Lets hope they're not out of bread and milk already.

And this is now the THIRD Harris Teeter on rt. 50 in 10 miles.

I like it.

What kind of morons open a new grocery store near Wegman's?

The only business they'll get is when Wegman's is so fucking crowded that people give up trying to find a parking space.

It's on RT 50 between West Ox and 7100. Pretty much right next to the police/fire station there.

Not everyone is a Wegman's fan (although I don't know what is not to like) and when there was a Harris Teeter in Fairfax City I shopped there over Giant and Safeway which were much closer to me in Burke Centre and University Mall. While the customer service and depth of selection is not at the level of Wegman's, I would probably rate Harris Teeter as the #2 "regular" grocery store - Whole Foods is great, but most people cannot shop there every day.

Harris-Teeter is a very nice market. When the one at Stone Ridge opened, we immediately dumped Giant even though there is a brand new Giant in South Riding. Now we have a Harris-Teeter even closer, at Eastgate.

Having said that, if we had a Wegmans a few miles closer, that would be my regular market, but the ones in Dulles, Gainesville, and Fairfax are a little too far for that.

Bob - You should check out Trader Joe's if you haven't been in a while. I kind of wrote them off a few years ago for being to blah, but went the one in C'Ville recently and the food is excellent. No more of that granola crunchy crap.

Hi Trader -- we do make occasional TJ runs. I get my hair cut in C'ville so I usually combine that with a visit to TJ's. We love the nuts, cereals, many of the frozen entrees, the pet treats, shaving cream, etc.

I like that TJ more than some of the others -- it seems a bit more spacious.

I was just going to say that the frozen entrees are excellent. Love the portabella and beef ravioli's. Same with the produce. They have more of an obscure selection of items you can't find at the other over-commercialized stores. Two-buck (or $3.49) Chuck isn't bad either if you're throwing a huge party or are making Sangria. Also, some of the best fresh salsa and guacamole out there.

I am also a fan of both Trader Joes and Wegmans. They just serve different purposes. As mentioned, there is some great frozen food at TJs, like the gnocchi (usually they have at least two varieties) and a lot of affordable appetizers. But they are also a great place for buying things like bourbon vanilla extract or walnut oil - excellent prices. The only issue is that occasionally they stop carrying a product you really like. Fingers crossed that they won't stop carrying the peach salsa anytime soon.

Trader Joe's German owners (Albrecht) are very frugal (they also own Aldi), so maybe when a supplier jacks up prices, they tell them to fuck off?

The store has numerous remarkable highlights including hand-tailored lobster moves; trail blend bar; in-store smoked salmon; Asian hot food sources bar; American hot nourishments bar; Starbucks; ExpressLane Online Shopping; and a drive-through Pharmacy. In every one of its stores, Harris Teeter endeavors to offer clients a great shopping experience, which starts with client assistance and highlights excellent items, assortment, and choice. Harris Teeter likewise attempts to be a genuine local area accomplice by supporting nearby schools and youth sports associations, among other non-benefit associations.
