Hello there. I am a federal employee gs13 step 7 having 24 years of service.
I have fantastic benefits including a matching tsp account with several million dollars accrued. 11 paid holidays per year, 120 hours of sick leave, and a generous 156 hours of personal leave per year. I can flex and get every other Friday off in addition to all the other time off I get.....then of course I telework two days a week. It is exhausting planning my vacations. My salary is only 146k per year and I am not sure how I can pay my bills without my taxpayer provided salary. it has been a day overdue - I know I'll get retro pay once that idiot couple shumer and pelosi reopen the gov but jeez. this is such a hardship for me. no, I don't really ever think about the tax payer working hard for 40k a year contributing to my salary why would I? it isn't every joe that has the intelligence or background to write rfp's for a COTR. my work probably consumes a good five hours weekly. the tax payer is lucky to have a guy like me serving so bravely each day. anyone out there feel pitt for me?

As a govt employee, I only know how to spend, spend, spend! Can someone explain this concept of "saving"? It's a four-letter word in my agency that is cause for dismissal if you use it during a staff meeting...

I don't get paid much as a federal employee but I adjust my lifestyle to fit my salary. Living in a little townhouse, driving Hondas for 300k miles and stuff like that. I have probably 2 years salary in savings so I am flat out LOVING this shutdown and I hope it lasts another few weeks at least. I hate Trump too but I don't complain about him because I do not vote, never have and never will.

With several million dollars in a TSP after only 24 years, I'd be taking a look at what sort of criminal money laundering was going on here. Might be some sort of trilateral collusion going on with Russia and the NRA.

i as a federal employee should not need to save. my federal checks are supposed to be similar to welfare checks. meaning always paid and on time. so forgive me is i drive an s500 and like to wear lots of bling. after all i have a government job. i am a fed not like some low iq soldier. i should never have to go hungry

If America really saw and knew what's going on with fed bennies and pay, there would be a new revolution and huge cuts that Democrats will have to agree with or face extinction on election day

What feds earn - at least the ones that are not working in hostile territories is a crime. it would be wonderful if the rest of the country were aware of the federal worker's real compensation. it is theft of hardworking american tax payer blood. There's a Fed on the floor where I work, her office is near the break room. Every time I go on a coffee run she's online shopping (not literally every time, once a week she's checking email, probably for delivery status). Most people who goof off long hours turn their monitor away from the door. But this Fed is so secure in her job that she has no concern that it is obvious that she does next to nothing all day. What a wretched existence, in theory it's nice to have a low stress secure job, but I'd feel useless wasting away years producing nothing.
