Dude, people have been bi*$ching about "participation trophies" as if they are something new, and have only been handed out in the past ten years or so.

Not so...I participated in youth sports back to the 60's...and yes, they gave out medals, trophies, certificate to everyone back then as well.

And, parents complained about "kids today", as in, "when I was a kid, we'd just run out and play, and come back for dinner...kids today, they don't do that..."

And, by the 70's, it was "kids today, what with these computer games and whatnot, they don't get outside AT ALL..."

So hilarious to hear people that are adults now, that grew up in the 80's and 90's saying the same thing..."kids today, they're inside with the computer games, and get trophies for just showing up..."

So, these 30 and 40 year olds now...they think they grew up when there were NO COMPUTER GAMES and NO PARTICIPATION TROPHIES?

Get real. Too funny.

100% pure unadulterated bullshit. And there is NO fucking way you "participated in youth sports back to (??? - telling!) the 60s" because I was actually there and it was NOTHING like you claim.

You might be able to peddle that shit to some Gen X loser, but I ACTUALLY DID play sports in the 60s. Little League. Senior League. Pee Wee League. And there were NO fucking participation trophies. NONE. I got trophies. For being an All-Star. For my team winning the league championship. And those were the ONLY trophies anyone gave out, liar. No participation trophies, asshole.

And no one - NO ONE - was home indoors all day with video games in the 1970s. What few home video games existed back then pretty much sucked and you couldn't play them long before being bored. I never heard ONE adult say anything like "kids today, what with these computer games and whatnot, they don't get outside AT ALL..." Because it wasn't fucking true and would have made no fucking sense. We were all outside all the time.

And in the 1960s, me and my friends DID "just run out and play, and come back for dinner" on weekends, during summer, on school breaks. EXACTLY what we did every fucking day. So no dispshit parent back then was complaining about "kids today", as in, "when I was a kid, we'd just run out and play, and come back for dinner...kids today, they don't do that..."

You entirely made up that entire spiel about WTF you **imagine** life was like in the 1960s and 1970s.

But it's all bullshit. Because unlike you, I don't need to imagine - I actually lived it.

Number one:

How do you know so much about anonymous posters?

Clearly, it is impossible for you to know most of the things you claim about the posters you attack, and since these attacks make up a large part of your "arguments", they are nearly 100% illogical.

Grow up a little, lose the attitude and drop the "personal" attacks against people you don't even know and can't possibly know anything about.

"I was actually there"...LOL. Like you're talking about the 'nam or something..."I was THERE, dude!"

"I actually lived it"...LOL again.

Your team won the chamionship? In the 1960's little league? WOW!!! Tell me more, man!

So you're going to tell me I didn't play sports in the 60's, huh?

Praytell, how do you know that?

The point was older people have been saying the same BS from generation to generation about younger people.

And it's true.

But wait! He's an asshole and he wasn't around in the 60's and I was, so it's all BS! How I know he wasn't around in the 60's, well, cause he's a dick!

Bingo. We used to ride around town on our bikes all day long as young as 6 and 7, collecting soda pop bottles to redeem for two cents a piece. This was the 1960s. Some prevert kidnapping or killing us literally never crossed ANYONE'S minds because all of us kids did it and we literally never saw or heard of anything like that ever happening, period.

If he just wanted to make the trite claim that older generations have been railing on the youth of the current generation going back to the time of the ancient Greeks, no one would have cared and no one would have said shit about it.

Instead he made up a complete fantasy world of pure bullshit and posted it here. Right out of the lying leftist playbook.

If you came here in 30 years and posted some horseshit about how you remember that riots broke out all over the country after 9/11 and people grabbed Muslims off the streets and killed them by the dozens, I'd know that you weren't there and that you were a lying sack of shit, too.

But I'm already pretty sure you're a lying sack of shit, anyway.

That is a made up story. Indoors playing computer games in the 70s? I don't think. Maybe by the late 70s were playing in arcades. Participation trophies and medals. Hell, I grew up in the 80s and we didn't get anything like that. Maybe in track you would get 1st through xth place ribbon but not in team sports. Maybe a runner-up trophy. Maybe. Get real.

You must have had a blessed childhood and wanted for nothing. I grew up in the 70's. And participation trophies were not a common thing. Maybe they were in your neighborhood. And video games for 'home use' didn't really start to take off until around 1980. The first generation Atari console was like $200.00, and games were $50 each approx, if I remember correctly. That was a LOT of money back then. No one I grew up with or around had families that could afford that. You say it like every kid and family was loaded down with gaming. Lol dude we rode our bikes all over the place and were damn happy to have bikes. We pieced them together from parts we traded for other stuff.

"Maybe they were in your neighborhood"...

Ha! Where did you grow up? In the projects? With a bunch of future pro athletes?

Man, you must've had it tough...kind of goes with the theory..."When I was growing up, 'twas much tougher"..

Again, though, it was pointed out that parents in their 30's and 40's (those that grew up in the 80's and 90's) are saying things like "man, when I grew up, we had no participation trophies, and everybody played outside, and nobody was inside playing video games, etc, etc"...

Be like Number One and attack attack attack as if you KNOW the anonymous poster, call him (her?) names.

You might be stupid.

You grew up in the 70's (and boy it sounds like it sucked for you) the poster talked about people growing up in the 80's and 90's...and there were no video games or "participation trophies" then?

Hmmmm....for someone who grew up in the 70's, you must have spent alot of time with kids in the 80's and 90's...

Time for you to meet Chris Hanson?

Is that how people rolled in your neighborhood back in the 70's?

What fucking universe did you grow up in during the sixties. I played basketball and baseball in organized leagues, plus football and baseball on church teams. We didn't get actual trophies for participating, but we got plenty of "mementos".

End of the season they would have a pot luck banquet where the championship team got actual trophies. Sometimes the runner up would as well. Sometimes second and third would get ribbons. Then they would hand out certificates to everyone who participated. Then there were game balls. Every kid seemed to get one, and on some teams about half way through coaches would start asking we didn't get a game ball yet? High school sports were the same deal. Sophomore year I was a starter on JV first two games. Then they moved me up to varsity after someone got hurt. I didn't play a single down rest of the season. But I got a letter, a certificate, a tee shirt and a picture of me in varsity. I got more recognition for sitting on the bench than I would have gotten for playing on JV.

When I was young all of that crap was important and was proudly displayed for a few months until I got the next load of crap. Then it went into a box in the basement. That HS football letter went straight into that box. Years later I retrieved the box from my parents, fished out the game balls for my kids to play with and threw the rest in the trash.

I don't remember hearing my parents bitching about all the crap I got just for participating. Maybe they did but I wasn't around to hear it. We didn't get actual trophies for participating, but we got other crap that served the same purpose. So its a distinction without a difference.

The usual complaint about participation trophies is that they don't reward success. Success shouldn't be the only thing we celebrate. We should also be recognizing kids for showing up and working hard, even if the final result isn't to land them on top. Go to a pinewood derby race some time. Probably half those cars were built by the parents. They look better and they go faster. So when they hand out the trophy for fastest car or best looking car they are rewarding the kid for dad's work. How is that better than giving a kid some recognition for having a slow ugly car that he did all the work on?

Dude, according to Deplorable One douche, there is NO WAY YOU GREW UP IN THE 60's!

He knows.

Liar.

Point about rewarding effort vs achievement...there are several studies that show if a kid is rewarded in school for "working hard" vs. merely achieving good grades, kids from the group that are rewarded for working hard tend to outperform the other group over a long period of time...because good habits beget good performance over a long period of time, and when the going gets tougher later, and it is harder to "achieve" the kids who developed good habits early on can fall back on that and continue to achieve when things progress beyond 2 plus 2.

Now, Number One d might come on here and cuss you, me and everybody else, call us liars, terrorists and the like, as if he knows us, but who cares.

fact of the matter is that I did in fact receive "participation trophies" growing up, I did grow up in the 60's and beyond, and, played major college sports and spent a small time in the pros.

So was I held back because I might have received a participation trophy or two?

Not even.

I will give Number One d about 20 minutes to come here and cuss me, call me a liar, a communis, terrorist, etc.

Clearly crazy and illogical.

F 'em.

Of course it is.

This putz thinks if he keeps doubling down with more bogus details posted under different names that we're going to buy this crock of shit. Not going to happen because, again, I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s so I know with absolute certainty that NONE of that shit is true.

Liar.

No one is arguing about what happened in the 80s and 90s.

The poster wrote:

"Not so...I participated in youth sports back to the 60's...and yes, they gave out medals, trophies, certificate to everyone back then as well.

And, parents complained about "kids today", as in, "when I was a kid, we'd just run out and play, and come back for dinner...kids today, they don't do that..."

And, by the 70's, it was "kids today, what with these computer games and whatnot, they don't get outside AT ALL..."

And THAT is all, pure, 100% bullshit.

I don't believe one fucking word of this fable. Anyway, a team photo is NOT a participation trophy nor does it "serve the same purpose."

And I earned letters in three sports and they did not hand them out for riding the pine. There were very specific criteria for lettering. And again, a high school letter does not serve the same purpose as giving every seven year old in a league the exact same participation trophy.

Yes, success SHOULD be the only thing we celebrate. You MUST be a government worker. Because I have been working in the private sector for 45 years and NO ONE in any of my companies ever got a raise, a promotion, a new client, a bonus, etc. just "for showing up and working hard."

In the REAL world of the private market, NO ONE gives two fucks how hard you worked when you fumbled the presentation, botched the design, broke the prototype, wrote shitty software that didn't work, delivered the product late and over budget, or didn't make your sales quota.

The ONLY thing that matters is the outcome. Were you successful or not? Success is rewarded; failure is punished.

Again, I know damn well that the government (where I'm sure you work) doesn't operate this way. That is a big reason why the government sucks at every damn thing it does.

Like a broken clock, you're right twice a day Mr. Former Professional Athlete {Rolls Eyes}

1. He was a liar.

2. You're a liar.

And I do not believe there are ANY authentic "studies that show if a kid is rewarded in school for 'working hard' vs. merely achieving good grades, kids from the group that are rewarded for working hard tend to outperform the other group over a long period of time."

And that entire statement put the "merely" in the wrong place. Achievement is NEVER "merely." You need to move it up three words in that sentence to where it belongs.

The poster also wrote about those that are parents today who grew up in the 80's and 90's, so suck it.

Yeah, go ahead and roll you eyes about someone you have no way of knowing if their story is true or not.

Makes about as much sense as a buzzard.
