Trump was the one and only reason why the shutdown began, and he is the one and only reason why the matter has not yet been resolved. He is only digging the hole deeper for himself, and blunders later today will serve only to make matters even worse. Trump has lost his little wall ploy, but will likely be the last person on Earth to realize it.

All rational people would prefer not to waste $5.7 billion on any wall at all simply to cover for the bruised ego and partisan stupidity of some wig-wearing demagogue. As for a wall along the Mexican border, one is neither needed nor wanted. There is no sort of security crisis in the SW border region. Life goes on there as usual. What we do need is better-functioning ports-of-entry. Even smugglers will tell you that much.

Several years ago under B. Hussein Obama, the GOP voted funding for the federal government but did not include funding for Planned Parenthood. The Dems refused to pass it without Planned Parenthood funding.
Of course to the leftist media this meant the GOP was shutting the federal government, and they reported as such.
Now under Trump, the Dems voted funding for the federal government but did not include funding for the Wall. The GOP refuses to pass it without Wall funding.
