A Common Gun Control Myth Debunked

A common gun control myth about mass shootings is based on faulty research. For FACTS, not fiction see here;

Official FBI crime stats for 2017 are:

Total Murders: 15129
Total by Firearm: 10982
Total by knife: 1591
Total by other weapon: 1860
Total by fist / feet: 696

Your 40,000, which you don't source or break down seems slightly high. The usual figures quoted are 33-35k. Such figures usually include suicides (about 2/3 ~ 26,000), justifiable shootings by police and civilians, and accidents. Anyway, Criminal use of guns is about 1/4 of your number, making your claim disingenuous.

IN re the false claims that gun control laws reduce homicides:
This study compares Brady's data and finds:

https://crimeresearch.org/2018/03/states-stricter-gun-control-laws-fewer-gun-deaths-no-fewer-homicides-suicides-definitely-no/

Once one accounts for the average pre-existing differences in homicide and suicide rates across states and the average annual changes in those deaths from year-to-year, stricter gun laws are associated with more total deaths from homicides and suicides. increasing the index of the gun laws in a state by 20 percentage points (about one standard deviation) is associated with an increase in the total death rate (homicides plus suicides) of 0.4 per 100,000 people. While we might disagree with how the Brady Campaign rates state gun control laws from year-to-year, this relationship is found using their ratings.

Again, this study is not afraid to show its data and how it was analyzed, unlike the gun control side which rarely shows its data and analysis.

Murders in the US are concentrated in a few areas.
Murders in US very concentrated: 54% of US counties in 2014 had zero murders, 2% of counties have 51% of the murders
https://crimeresearch.org/2017/04/number-murders-county-54-us-counties-2014-zero-murders-69-1-murder/

Your gun control proposals do nothing to address those problems, instead they take rights away from the innocent, punishing them for the crimes of the guilty.

Finally, GUNS SAVE LIVES. A CDC study confirms this:

https://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/cdc-study-use-firearms-self-defense-important-crime-deterrent

“Self-defense can be an important crime deterrent,”says a new report by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The $10 million study was commissioned by President Barack Obama as part of 23 executive orders he signed in January.

“Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was ‘used’ by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies,” the CDC study, entitled “Priorities For Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence,” states.

Peer reviewed studies put the number of defensive gun uses at 1.5 to 3 million times each year.

When you can get 2/3 of both chambers of Congress, a president who will sign it AND 3/4 of the states to approve it to pass a repeal of the 2nd, then you'll have something. Do you not realize that studies have shown that people will continue to commit suicide by other means if you take away guns?

Do you not realize that guns are used millions of times each year to prevent a crime, normally without a shot being fired?

Do you not realize that punishing the innocent for the crimes of the guilty is morally wrong?

Do you not realize that you are not the morally superior person you claim to be?

Do you not realize that gun owners are not the morally inferior persons you claim they are?

^^^ Crazed emotional rant by a typical AntiGun-tarded asshole.

Taking away guns won't stop the killing. London, until last month, had a higher murder rate than NYC. They use knives. Taking away guns won't stop the suicides. They strangle themselves, cut themselves, use pills, etc. London's gun murder rate is several times what it was before gun control. Criminals will get guns, and will use them to kill,

Your policies will ONLY DISARM GOOD PEOPLE, not the criminals. There are 300,000,000 guns in the US. Even if all your 40k were murders, that is only 0.013% used illegally. Penalizing everyone else is MORALLY WRONG. Leaving them defenseless will increase the crime rate. Your policies may make you feel good, but they do harm.

VA has a murder rate of 4/100k, MD is 7.6/100k and DC is 12/100k. They have stricter gun control and it is killing them. Your focus on gun control is killing people. If you care as much as you claim, go after the criminals, not the law abiding people. Punishing the law abiding is MORALLY BANKRUPT. Why do you insist on it?

Please be nice and keep in mind that these gun owners are victims and should be treated as such. Something bad happened to them usually in their childhood. They live in fear every day and guns help them cope with this overwhelming fear and cowardice. Sadly many of these gun cowards end up going to prison or getting maimed or killed because of the guns that they depend on so much. It is a vicious cycle. Try to show some compassion for these poor people.

Your problem is that it's so easy to show you to be a liar.

Congressman Eric Swalwell, a Democrat from California, has gun control — and specifically gun bans — in his sights.

The Congressman is working on legislation to rid our communities of firearms of any kind. Unlike previous gun ban proposals by Democrats, Swalwell’s legislation does NOT allow for the so-called grandfathering in of currently owned firearms. His proposal include confiscation of privately owned firearms.

Note that NO democrats have come forward and condemned his proposal. They have been silent. Also note it references previous gun ban proposals. Democrats have a long history of using Jim Crow tactics when they couldn't get a complete ban on something - just ask blacks. Magazine restrictions, banning certain types of popular firearms, id to buy ammunition, special taxes, etc are all part of the effort by dems to Jim Crow gun owners. None of these ideas reduces crime or keeps criminals from getting guns. Banning the sale of certain types while grandfathering existing guns is a ban in slow motion. That proposal is commonly made by anti gunners. Your claim that no one is trying to ban guns or take them away is BS.

From the Daily KOS:

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2012/12/21/1172661/-How-to-Ban-Guns-A-step-by-step-long-term-process

How to Ban Guns: A step by step, long term process

The only way we can truly be safe and prevent further gun violence is to ban civilian ownership of all guns. That means everything. No pistols, no revolvers, no semiautomatic or automatic rifles. No bolt action. No breaking actions or falling blocks. Nothing. This is the only thing that we can possibly do to keep our children safe from both mass murder and common street violence.

Unfortunately, right now we can't. The political will is there, but the institutions are not. Honestly, this is a good thing. If we passed a law tomorrow banning all firearms, we would have massive noncompliance. What we need to do is establish the regulatory and informational institutions first. This is how we do it:

Here's a link to a list of gun banners:

http://gunssavelives.net/blog/gun-laws/no-one-wants-to-ban-or-confiscate-guns-huh-these-quotes-from-anti-gun-leaders-say-otherwise/

Here's another:

Bernie Sanders Calls for Sweeping Gun Ban That Would Outlaw All Self-Defense Firearms

In an apparent primary-season about-face on Sunday’s episode of NBC’s Meet the Press, Sanders radically adjusted his position on guns and advocated for a sweeping gun ban that would outlaw most firearms designed for home and self defense.

http://truthinmedia.com/bernie-sanders-calls-for-sweeping-gun-ban-that-would-outlaw-all-self-defense-firearms/

It's hard to have a serious conversation with people who use name calling, distortion and lies to 'prove' their point. Unfortunately, that's what we encounter when we deal with the anti gun movement.

MD has stricter gun control and a higher murder rate.
DC has stricter gun control and a higher murder rate.

If your proposals saved lives, that wouldn't happen. If guns caused crime, there would be a lot more of it. Guns are a tool that can be used for good and evil. You distort the facts by refusing to acknowledge the good they do and the lives saved by them.

You're the one who wrote:

I proved the statement false. Not only then, but you continue to lie. If you are worried about the gun suicides, the only way to stop them is to ban all guns. No one can know what someone will do 10 years from now with a gun he is allowed to buy today. If he decides to suicide, he already has the gun. The only way to prevent that is to ban all guns. Either you are too stupid to see that, or you are lying about banning guns. Which is it? Are you a fucking liar or a fucking dumb ass?
