Trump was reasonably hands off the economy in 2017, and the DOW did great.

This year he replaced a competent fed chair because she wasn't tall enough, launched a wasteful multi-front trade war which is enriching his cronies but costing Americans billions, and took part in the cover-up of an American based journalist, which makes everyone think the world is less stable, which affects investment.

^^^ As we are learning, this is hardly his only crime. His M.O. has meanwhile been to create uncertainty and instability everywhere he goes. Economic actors tend not to like uncertainty and instability. They don't like tariffs and trade wars either. Trump is basically marginalizing the US and ceding important space to China. It's just stupid. It's like Kids' Day in the USA.
