A couple reasons for that. The primary one is that the algorithm that calculates the rankings is weighted pretty heavily on strength of schedule. So losing narrowly to a high ranked team could get you more points than crushing a low ranked team. Chantilly's opponents are a combined 5-20. That's killing their rating.

1. Battlefield @ Centreville (-14)
- Centreville won 21-12. Battlefield played them tough. The wildcats had a late touchdown. Looks like this Centreville team is down.

2. Edison @ Yorktown (-24)
- Patriots blank Edison, 41-0.

3. Fairfax @ T.C. Williams (-17)
- T.C. won and covered 35-14.

4. Falls Church @ Madison (-20)
- Warhawks won and covered 29-0.

5. Herndon @ Marshall (-14)
- Marshall 34-0 over Herndon.

6. Lake Braddock (-28) @ Oakton
- LB rolls 40-12. How’d they look against a not-so-worthy opponent?

7. McLean @ Mount Vernon (-24)
- Majors win on Homecoming, 45-12.

8. South County (-28) @ Annandale
- SC wins big, 54-7.

9. South Lakes (-17) @ Wakefield
- SL over Wakefield 40-6.

10. Stone Bridge (-35) @ Rock Ridge
- SB with back to back 55-7 victories.

11. Washington-Lee @ Chantilly (-21)
- Chantilly 42-13 over W&L.

12. West Potomac (-25) @ Lee
- WP 62-0. That’s 13 points total for the Lancers in 5 games thus far...

13. West Springfield (-20) @ Stuart
- Spartans won 56-14.

14. Westfield (-28) @ Woodson
- Westfield won 53-3.

District play begins for most teams this week.

1. Centreville (-21) @ Oakton
- The Wildcats have looked a little bit shady this year. They need to have a statement game here against the worst team in the Concorde.

2. Chantilly @ Hayfield (-3)
- Hayfield on a down year is still going to be Chantilly’s toughest opponent so far. I’m going with the Hawks in their HC game, but Chantilly might surprise us.

3. Edison (-14) @ Wakefield

4. Fairfax @ West Springfield (-13)
- I thought Fairfax would be bad this year, they aren’t as bad as I originally thought. I believe WS will be too much for the Rebels.

5. Lake Braddock (-17) @ Robinson
- Great rivalry game here. Co-Game of the week.

6. Langley @ South Lakes (-21)

7. Lee @ Stuart (-20)
- Will Lee score?

8. Madison @ Westfield (-10)
- Co-Game of the week here. Should be a slugfest.

9. Marshall (-5) @ Falls Church
- Toss up. Could go either way.

10. Mount Vernon (-10) @ West Potomac
- The Route 1 rivalry. WP beat the Majors something like 10 years straight, been more of an even battle recently.

11. Stone Bridge (-35) @ Riverside
- Another new school I know nothing about.

12. T.C. Williams (-14) @ Annandale

13. Washington-Lee (-6) @ Herndon

14. Woodson @ South County (-28)
- SoCo won’t be challenged again until the Lake Braddock game.

15. Yorktown (-28) @ McLean

CVHS wins by 17. Won’t do anything else as this is will be their only district win.

Chantilly by 10, pull away late 4th qtr, not because Chargers are good but more so that Hayfield is having a bad season and have given up, nothing to play for.

Wakenfield by 7

Rebels are bad. WSHS by 21.

Can’t be sure which Rams team will show. Bruins are consistently good. Bruins romp by 28.

SL covers.

Lee scores but still lose, STU covers

Bulldogs win 35-10. Pull away late 3rd qtr. to much speed everywhere.

GCM by 10

Should be a high scoring game. Majors late 49-41

SB covers.

Herndon by 3.

YHS covers.

Centreville has got to figure it out quickly. I went to the game on Friday and was surprised that the fastest person on the team doesn’t even play on offense. They need speed to be able to stretch the field and get better production on that anemic offense. Heard several people talking about it at the game. They better figure it out fast or it’s gonna be a long rest of the season.

Correctly picked Centreville to win, but picked them to cover, which wasn't correct. I was right to be nervous about them.

Correctly picked TCW to win, but was wrong about them not covering. They covered the spread by 4 points. However, based on the reports of this game from TCW's Twitter feed, this game was closer than the score indicates. TCW didn't cover the spread until late in the 4th quarter.

Correctly picked the winner. LB won by exactly 28. Does that mean they covered? Or did they need to have won by 29 for them to have covered?

Correct on both counts. Also correct in my comment that this spread wasn't nearly high enough.

Correctly picked the winner, but blew it predicting against the spread.

I said I was nervous about Centreville, and it looks like I'm right to feel that way. Centreville wins, doesn't cover.

This might be the hardest pick here, but I'm going to take Chantilly to win outright. It's hard to believe that Hayfield is bad enough to be 0-5, but they are, so there must be some reason for that. Maybe the kids have checked out, and if they have, Chantilly has a good chance here.

Fairfax has indeed surprised, but they had the fortune, thus far, of an easy schedule. Now that they have entered District play, wins will be hard to come by. I'm also surprised by how well West Springfield has done this year. West Springfield wins and covers.

>

Lake Braddock wins, but doesn't cover.

South Lakes wins and covers.

Lee looks really bad, and their opponents should be giving more points. Stuart wins and covers easily.

Westfield wins and covers.

Falls Church wins a close one, by about the indicated point spread.

I'll take Mount Vernon to win, but not cover.

TCW isn't giving nearly enough points here. TCW wins and covers.

Washington Lee wins and covers

Agree with your SoCo season prognosis. South County wins and covers.

Yorktown wins and covers

I stand by my comment about Chantilly ah omg no talent. Pogorelic has that many offers because he fits measurables for D1 programs. He isn’t very good. So if that’s your our answer to talent then you have no argument. The QB will piss down his leg in the big games. Your 5 foot RB will get crushed. Now what

Chantilly is not ranked higher on Max Preps because Preps uses an algorithm that accounts for the strength of your opponent. Chantilly's schedule for the first have of the season is absolutely horrible (combined record: 5-20). So, you may be 5-0 but that is built on playing horrible teams and the Preps rankings reflect that. You may beat Centreville and have an outside shot at Madison, but you are not beating Westfield. You should beat Hayfield and Oakton. I say you go 8-2 (dropping either MAD or CV in addition to WF) and then lose 2nd round of the playoffs.

Obviously ur a jealous Bulldogs fan/kid/player. You wish you had our oline, we wouldn’t have let our QB get hurt like you guys. While we’re at it since you bring up rb’s you don’t even have a rb run for 100yds so far. You didn’t have a 1000yd rusher last year. Your run game stinks! Can’t block and even if you could your rb is fat and slow and blind and would miss the hole. Say what you want but our QB is tough and not made of glass.

This guy is obviously trying to get a rise out of everybody on here. I would say he knows that it is impossible to prevent the type of injury that was incurred by kim in the playoffs last year. The best thing to do with an idiot is let him be an idiot by himself. Ignore him and hopefully he will go back to his childish video games or possibly even do his freshman homework.

Freedom may have saved Kim in the long run. At least he came back to play this year. If Westfield had played vs Manchester, I'm sure the Lancers would have smacked him around enough to make him question whether playing football instead of soccer was a wise decision.

Imagine, Freedom could get the chance to take him out again in game #15!!!!

Friday, Madison gets their shot at Stickman, Kim. Let's see if he decides to run the ball? Oh, please do!!!

To the troll: OMFG! You are clueless. Yes, he is thin but for a QB Kim is far faster and more mobile than most (e.g., you gotta catch him first). He only runs when he needs to, which has not been often this year. MAD has fallen off a bit so we will see if they can keep up.

This is just stupid. Michigan doesn’t just offer scholarships to any lineman based solely on “measurables.” A couple of weeks ago I had the misfortune of being at a Dominion game and had chance to watch their offensive lineman Christ (UVA commit). Being at the Chantilly game last week took note to compare the two. Pogorelc was quicker and more athletic in my opinion. He would be at the second level before Christ had finished his first step.

Our O-line is the best in the state, def up in North region. I’m glad our Rb’s & Qb don’t have to play behind a horrible o-line like Westfield. They’ve gotten by with having Qb’s throw it deep for big plays for past 5-6yrs. That luck/plan has run out this year. Guarantee James and Andres get first team all state selections.

Carrington Nickens-Yzer but he has no hands and runs sloppy routes which is why he plays dB

An unusual scheduling quirk. But with two year cycles, those same teams will only have 4 home games next year-it evens out.

Do you smellllllllllllll what the Doc is cooking.....this week.

Friday night Battle of Burke against the Robinson Rams
Robinson is really struggling this year, so look for this to be another blow out win, probably over by halftime.

Doc and staff have the Bruins rolling right along, I dont see anyone beating them.

Doc has said this is the best Bruins team ever at Lake Braddock and we believe him!

So everyone come on out watch the best staff in the state do their magic.

#preparing for 15

Maybe so but nufan has clearly lost his fastball and skipper is coming to the mound and signaling for the bullpen cuz he’s clearly lost it. He’s a buffoon and a loud mouth at the games.

The fact that nufan uses the word "dummy" indicates a possible connection to that old douche bag from Dunn Loring. We're gathering more evidence on this, but we are watching. If it turns out that he is in fact that old douche bag faggot, he will be attacked at every post.

WHS dynasty will be officially over once Noah Kim graduates. Warhawks freshman and Jv have completely dismantled and embarrassed both squads. Friday night if the refs don’t steal one from us, Varsity will also beat up the Bulldogs. I don’t think I’ve ever seen WHS Jv and Fr squads looks so bad.

To beat Westfield, blitzes have to be disguised and always keep a floater watching for their TE or FB sneaking to open space. Blitzing DE have to stay verticle to prevent Kim from rolling out. And Db's have to play very physical vs their WR's. Disrupt their patterns & Kim will get sacked. He's a rhythm passer. Disrupt his timing & you'll get to him.

LB came close and they had the right idea but they just don't play physical enough. If they would have swarm to the ball and punished the Bulldogs, they would have won that game.

Is this disinformation? I think Westfield has targeted a TE and RB combined less than 5X all season.

Not sure what game you watched. LB was EXTREMELY physical, more so than any other team WF has faced this year. LB couldn't swarm the ball because WF had superior speed on the outside. The LB offense was quite good, but the WF defense front 7 is very, very good. The WF secondary, combined with that "successful" onside kick that should not have been given to LB because the LB players blocked WF players before the ball went 10 yards, was the only reason that game was not a blowout.

Exactly. If WF plays well (they really have not yet this season) it is a 24+ point game. If not, still a win in the 14-17 point range.

Probably stuck on last year's team. You are correct, WF has not gone to the TE or RB on passing plays much at all.

Actually, it was LB's defense that lost them that game. LB's offense kept them in it. You can't give up 40 points and then credit the D. And it would have been over 50 if not for some shitty calls. Yeah, LB got some shitty calls against them too, but WF scores at least two more TD's if not for calling back big plays on phantom penalties.

lol. So, all the Bruins had to do was play better than Westfield and they would have won? Excellent analysis.

All you have to do to beat Westfield is kill their offense with better speed and being more physical than they are? Who woulda thunk.

What your analysis fails to even consider is coaching. Simmons is the best coach in the state. Freedom knocked Kim out in the first half last year, thinking like you do that he's the whole team, and they barely hung on to beat the Bulldogs who was using their star wide out as QB because the backup QB gave up two easy touchdowns on back to back fumbles.

Come on man

It is a fact that WF has not completed a pass to a TE this season.

Simmons is a good coach with an excellent staff. He has been in the right place at the right time. Is he better than Mickey Thompson?maybe, but if they switched roles Kyle isn't beating those Phoebus or Highland Springs teams. Who is the best? Simmons is very good, but how would he do at say...Herndon or Falls Church, or Woodson? Talent and a good coach win games. A shitty coach loses games. No depth as nd or lack of talent is auto failure

Great, but those that know the play calling sequence of that offense know it's a perfect play call in that State Title game or in OT. So, they are practicing the TE slipping out for that easy critical completion!!!

Was at the Madison-Westfield game. Two really well-coached and tough teams played another close one. Madison defense forced a couple of fumbles to help keep the game close and I felt Westfield offense played in their typical ultra-conservative mode. Maybe they were not wanting to show much. I have to hand it to Madison coaches - they had the team ready to play and they were prepared for much of what Westfield did. Westfield offense looked like they had a bad week of practice. Multiple illegal substitutions and quite frequent confusion on player shuffling. And how about punting from the Madison 29? That was interesting.

The purple boys of chantilly looked like a well oiled machine against the hapless hayfield hawks. Oh how the wheels have fallen off at hayfield. Whoever is calling the plays for the hawks should probably start back at the anklebiter level not as the play caller but AS the juice box BOY. A shit show in a dumpster fire, 10 men on the field at least 3 plays, poor clock management, abominable play calling. The chantilly signal caller looked much better than the hawks one. Kicker for chantilly is very good.

Amazing how fast things can change. Three years ago it was the exact opposite. 55-10 Hayfield.

That, would be Coach Henderson. Play caller extraordinaire.

Regarding your comment on WF's conservative offense; that is true. Simmons doesn't coach to score tons of points. He puts in the 2nd and 3rd stringers once WF starts blowing out the opponents. He's just as happy with a 1 point win as a 40 point win.

WF has played only one team with a losing record. They are the only loss for two 5-1 teams and one of two losses for two 4-2 teams.

They played a pretty bad game last night and still won against a good, well-coached rival.

If tilly can stay undefeated until they play WF, that will be a game to go see. Chargers are finally coming up against decent/good team starting next week. We'll see what they're made of shortly. WF has already played multiple undefeated teams and just keeps trucking along.

Very accurate assessment. WF's offense was decent, but certainly left a lot to be desired and, overall, sustained execution was lacking. WF has yet to play a complete game.

I think Tilly will probably lose to either MAD or CV, possibly both. Either way they are 8-1 or 7-2 going into the WF game to make that a great game - on paper. The reality is that WF has beaten teams with a combined record of 23-15, whereas Tilly's wins come against teams with a combined record of 7-29. They are not on the same level. The only deciding factor will be if the WF offense executes well-if they do, the game is a huge blowout. If not, WF still wins by multiple scores. Don't read too much into the WF-MAD score, as those two always play close games. WF's offense did not execute well against MAD, as other posters very accurately depicted.

WF-Mad game... that game was 2-3 plays from going the wrong way for WF... Mad has played SoCo too—-SoCo would have beaten WF last night by several scores. Mad has a some underclassmen that were surprisingly good (one DB damn near chased down Isiah Daniel on his TD run and their WR got way behind the WF defense on a touchdown) Probably doesn’t mean anything, but Mad JV smacked WF Thursday night 37-0...will be interesting to see how Concorde shakes out next year once WF’s current cast graduates.

I’m confused on the chantilly people using the Hayfield game as a statement win? They’re the worst team in that region outside of Annandale. They’re a sloppy, undisciplined joke. It’s going to be a bitter dose of reality when the Chargers play a team that isn’t coached by Walmart greeters

Having seen Madison and Chantilly play, Madison has to be the favorite but only if they bring it. Have to gauge the effort and preparation level. Everyone brings their best game to Westfield. Look at Stonewall - they gave Westfield a good game but barely slipped by Battlefield last night (9-7). Based on talent they should have won that game by no less than 28.

Looking at those standings, it's likely that the top six teams in the current standings will make the playoffs. Falls Church's come from behind win over Marshall likely sealed them a playoff berth. I'd also say that the bottom three are likely eliminated. The final two slots are likely to be contested among Woodson, Fairfax, Stuart (still can't call them "Justice"), West Po and Robo. Woodson and Fairfax have a bit of a cushion over the teams chasing them, but it's likely that both will lose each of their next three games. Woodson's next three are against Lake Braddock, West Springfield, and Robo. Fairfax's next three are against Robo, Lake Braddock, and South County. Although Robo is behind both of them in the standings, I don't think Robo is as bad as their record indicates and Robo would likely be favored against both Woodson and Fairfax. It's possible that the season finale of Fairfax at Woodson will become a play-in game for the last Region C playoff spot.

chantilly people on this board are definitely talking to much, but those boys can play. Not even looking at their schedule and just looking at how they play it’s obvious they are very good. They have the best o-line I’ve seen in a while and can dominate up front, have backs that can make big plays and when they throw the ball it’s very effective. Defense is very solid, needs to tackle better but they force turnovers and from what I heard should’ve had a pick six or two last nigh. I anticipate them vs Madisoj will Be a amazing game and think tilly will squeeze it out by a score. Westfield is definitely the favorite for the district and region but tilly should give them a real run for their money

James Pogorelc, a 3-star offensive lineman in the class of 2020 has seen his recruitment pick up steam lately with a handful of big-time offers coming in and North Carolina is one of the schools to put its name in the mix.

At this time, he has picked up offers from Michigan, Tennessee, Stanford, Virginia, Pittsburgh, Arizona State, Wake Forest and Syracuse among others.

Yet you have morons on here saying "he's not very good." Compared to what I wonder.

Of course they look good. They might very well be the worst 6-0 team in the state of Virginia. Do you realize the combined record of their opponents this season is 4 wins and 26 losses? Madison has gone toe-to-toe with Stone Bridge, South County and Westfield. They are not ready for Madison. End of story.
