Freedom is not even the best school in Woodbridge. That would be the Vikings. We took your best WR.

Every year. They are stacked every year someone says. But they still just really haven't been a contender. Why different this season?

My take on the Patriot District

1. South County: Has athletes all over the field, powerful running attack athletic QB and very good receivers. SC always plays good defense. I dont see anyone in the district beating them.

2. Woodson: Coming off their best year in a decade. They lost a lot, but still have a very good strong armed QB and some pretty good athletes around him. I think teams will take them lightly and be surprised.

3. Robinson: Coming out throwing the ball, wow did I really say that? I think they will throw the ball more this year, but if they get to far away from their usually very strong running game, I think they could struggle. Most team in the region know how to defend the spread, be careful Robinson.

4. Lake Braddock: They always have great players and this year is no different, but they also have Doc. He hasn't done much of anything since he came to Lake Braddock,(well the players behave better?) 1 playoff win. He did change the staff up some, maybe that will help.

5. West Springfield: New renovated school, New HC, good QB, but not much of anything else. They will win a few outside the district, but struggle in district play.

6. Fairfax: Did I hear they were making cuts? Does any program in the county make cuts anymore? Will struggle all year long.

Yes, I follow WF, as well as all the programs overall. I also tend to have very accurate assessments of teams and I know what I said is correct. The South Region (A & B) is not that much tougher than the north, but it has seen a bit of a rise - along with a fall off in the north at the same time - to sort of even things out. In the past, in most years, the south was certainly inferior to the north in terms of overall quality. This year, there might be 4-5 teams with a modest shot at a championship in the south, vs 3-4 in the north. Statistically insignificant.

The southern PW teams were put into the South for one reason only: balance. It is still far from perfect given the much greater numbers of large schools in the north, but if the 3-4 southern PW schools had been added to Regions C & D it would have been far too unbalanced. It has NOTHING to do with the wishes of any individual school or coach. To say otherwise indicates you are truly misinformed or just making up your own theories.

I understand the political bases for the alignment. But there IS a huge difference & unbalanced amount of travel.

1. Franklin County is South of Roanoke & will have to travel to Richmond or visa verse within Reg A. (3 hr trip). If they make the Reg A Finals, that could increase to a 4-5 hour trip the week before facing the Reg B champ!

2. Early stages of Region A will be played locally, keeping the travel down. BUT the games amongst the teams that normally play for Region A Finals will now be in the second Round!!! That's like making the Concord District being forced to play a championship game before playing the rest of Reg D!!!

3. Regional A vs B finals will always include the trip between PW Co & Richmond or Hampton Roads.

4. So, with the typical liberal view of equality, as long as those with the most influence are comfortable, then all is OK, right? Reg C & D will enjoy the larger crowds (ticket sales/revenue), local travel (30 min), and significant rest compared to Reg A & B. Seems equal from your perspective?

The truth is that with most of the Class 6 schools in Northern VA, the Southern Reg was simply steamrolled. There's no other way to assess the outcome.

I understand there aren't a lot of solutions. But, creating District Championship games in Class 6 would be a start. Then keep the power points in play & start opening the playoff brackets. With a complete open cross-regional playoff system, Every team would have EQUAL travel requirements. There were years that regional finals played cross bracketed games!

Let's see any other points of view & rebuttals!

All valid points, but until the VHSL stops chasing the money and acknowledges the population disparity in the state as the main consideration for playoffs, we are stuck with this system of one similar to it. I am 100% behind an open playoff, ranking teams 1-32 (or whatever number) and then playing the games.

Most disappointing teams so far
1. WTW - narrow victory against a poor Atoms team that won’t make playoffs.
2. Woodbridge - blown out by SoCo, a running clock in the 2nd half...! Maybe Woodbridge and Eldredge should’ve stood firm and let coach G go.
3. Osbourn Park - lost to McLean, who didn’t win a game last year.
4. Hatfield - Not many outside of Hayfield expected them to win but did expect a better showing than what they gave.

Annandale was a botched snap on 2pt conversion away from upsetting WTW. Maybe WTW is hyped way to much and Atoms aren’t as bad as everyone assumes. Still no one saw this coming WTW escaping with 35-34 win, to steal a line from Mickey, “feels like a loss don’t it?”

Not going out on a limb with this, but yes WTW was a one hit wonder last year. Graduated a ton. Last year was the year many in the WTW community was looking forward too for a few years. They will not be successful this year. They may score some, but will give up a ton.

There was no running clock. You need a 35-point margin for that and Woodbridge only scored 28 total.

Also, South County looked very good from the eye test last night. Their D held Woodbridge out of the end zone four or five times from inside the 30. The only reason Woodbridge scored is because the second (and maybe some third) string offense had a botched snap giving Woodbridge the ball on the three late in the game.

How do you lose with a dozen D1 kids on your team. Guess you go to Woodbridge to get recruited and go to Westfield or Freedom if you want to win. They must be some of the worst coaching staff around. Simmons would have the nations longest win streak with take roster. We’re talking P5 scholarship kids. Nations best LB. top OL. Blah blah blah. Woodbridge, quit buying into the snake oil salesman pitch.

Colonial Forge has fallen significantly compared to their past years level. I went to the CF vs Grassfield game last night. The Grizzlies actually scored first against CF pretty easily! GHS hasn't made the playoffs the last 2 years! Their QB is pretty good but GHS's shut down CF run game pretty well.

It wasn't until the middle of the 3rd quarter with a tited Grizzlies team that CF began to have success. Surratt's interception/ TD return on the last play of the game made the delta appear larger than how things played out.

The Eagles are far from ready to challenge Freedom or Highland Springs. That's 2 losses, so expect 7-3 season. Definitely, NOT a #2 team. VaPreps kinda phoned in this ranking list!

I, Eldredge, will be coaching this team next year. South County really won 42-0, 2 Spalding TD's called back and a freshman at QB, fumbling in the end of the game, made this game look closer than it was. I, Eldredge will fire G and take over ASAP. But seriously, SoCo is the team to beat their. They killed a much better Woodbridge. Hey G, stop recruiting and start coaching. Jason out!

They did. I was there expecting to see an upset. The final score doesn’t indicate how the LB defense was fairly dominant. I’ll go watch them play South County at the end of the season, expecting it to be a conference championship game.

I attended the Freedom game, OMFG did they put the beat down on Hayfield. Hayfield better stick to 7 v 7. They looked discombobulated. Freedom won in every aspect of the game including coaching. Freedom will probably run the table in the regular season. Hayfield will struggle to be 4-6. I think they have Soco this week. Coach P will own Coach H again, just as he always does.

Oakton beat Fairfax on the last play of the game. This was after Fairfax scored a go ahead touchdown with 58 seconds left in the game. Fairfax dominated the first half statically, but only led 14-3. A fumble killed a Fairfax drive in the first half. In the second half, Oakton figured out Fairfax offense, and started to generate some of their own on a gassed Fairfax defense. On the last play of the game, Oakton had the ball on the Fairfax 14, 3rd and 10. The Oakton QB threw a slant completed at the five, and the receiver slipped a few tackles to go in for the winning score.

I'm sure Coach Shields is disappointed but I am a bit surprised to see that score. There is a huge talent disparity between those teams. Shields must already be doing a damn good coaching job. I assumed that game would be a running clock blowout.

Can you smelllllllllll what the Doc is cooking!

Big win over West Potomac 34-14, what a great defense LB has, 5 INTs
Also, we have a great running game this year and with our already great passing game, we are literally impossible to stop.

Doc has said this is the best team LB has ever had, I think a lot of people are starting to believe now.

"Best staff in the state", you betcha!!!!

A few observations of the Centreville/Stone Bridge game. Centreville is much better than thought. The final score was 28-14 but should’ve been closer than that. I was expecting a blow out. A few players that stood out for CVHS: #8, a tackling machine. #4, shut down corner and very fast. #12, tall receiver with great hands. #25, very shifty back who can break a long run at any given time. #7, much better QB than expected given his first varsity game against a great team. There are several other players who stood out but can’t remember their numbers. All in all, Coach shields has done a great job coaching those guys up.

CVHS lucky they have Shields without him they lose by 50. Although CVHS oline gives reason for concern, SB had a whole lotta sacks.

I was at that game as well. I disagree. It shouldn’t have been closer. SB could have and should have blown out cville. Lots of messy mistakes. I think if they played again, SB would win by 40+. Not sure how they didn’t last night

I was at the game as well. Your point is mute because they don't play again til next year. SB was/is clearly the better team, however they played sloppy in terms of bad snaps and a muffed punt. The other turnovers were caused by hard hits and good defense. Cville played a bend but don't break D and let SB make mistakes..which they did. Cville had some chances inside the 20 to score but didn't. I think that's why some felt it could have been closer in terms of the score.. SB should go far this year, Cville not as far

...plus...4-5 ineligible man downfield calls. Marshall will do very well in their conference with their QB...plus a few scramble completion for big gains when coverage broke down. Madison didn't use their full playbook and is still finding their game... They need to figure it out quickly or next week could be ugly with a pissed off Stone Bridge team.

Sounds like it’s a lack of discipline issue rather than reffing. Blame coach’s for that one. Then again Warhawks have always been known to be dirty team and lack discipline. Starts early from the VYI coaching on up the hs ranks.

When team is white they “gritty & hard hitting” when they black, say Freedom they “undisciplined and thugs” whatever. Call it like I see it, Madison dirty players white or black.

If they did not drop SB, they would be 2-2 at best in their first 4. Can I smell what the Doc is cooking, smells like shit and another first round loss in the playoffs.

Madison will be lucky to win 5 games. They will lose to SB this week by a ton, also will lose Robinson, SoCo, WF and C-ville. They'll struggle with South Lakes and Chantilly. All you Madison Trolls who have been talking smack all summer need to disappear. Maybe next year.

Freedom is the best team in Woodbridge and the state. Saw them whip up on Highland Springs in their scrimmage, beat Soco's starters 21-14 in the 2nd and crush Hayfield 50-14, their JV gave up 14 in the 4th quarter. The Post, and both Preps need to put them as the number one team in the state on VA.

Freedom has adopted the Manchester HS philosophy of Recruit until you win! But Pleaze, you couldn't have thought that getting a couple of TD's vs the Springers backups was any kind of whooping? did ya? How many 40's did you drink that day? HS only played with their #1's for 2 series & y'all we're licking your wounds afterwards.

Are the Eagles the best in Class 6? Sure, of course they are, but poaching players only assures short term success for those ladder climbing coaches looking for their next gig.... Then what will y'all do when he's moved on? Freedom will co back to losing 3-5 games every year. So, enjoy it while it lasts.

BTW, don't forget that Freedom will still have to face off vs Oscar Smith to get back to the State Title game. Good luck!

Highland Springs first team played ONE - ONE series in that scrimmage. If Freedom played HS straight up, this year, their is almost zero chance Freedom wins, and only a small chance they keep it within 20 points.

And no, I am not a HS homer.

It won't really matter about who wins between Highland Springs vs Oscar Smith. Yes it will likely be the game of the year but both teams will have a great chance of playing 15 games this year. I expect Freedom vs Smith to be playing in the South Regional Finals for their game #14! Who ever win THAT game will likely play Westfield!

Rusty week for me, looks like a lot of changes have happened throughout the region over the summer. Some teams lost players, coaches, or in some cases, both. Some teams got better, and some got worse.

1. Annandale @ Woodson (-24)
- Woodson won 35-34. Not sold on the Atoms, I just think Woodson lost a lot of talent. Annandale went for the 2 point conversion and the win, but Woodson was able to shut that down.

2. Battlefield @ Westfield (-21)
- Westfield won 51-0. Just another week at the office for the Bulldogs….

3. Fairfax (-17) @ Oakton
- Oakton won 30-28. Great win for Oakton, after going 0-10 last year. They had 0:01 left, essentially one play, and they scored the game winning touchdown. Happy for the kids at Oakton, but Fairfax could really be in trouble this year.

4. Falls Church (-30) @ George Mason
- FC won 14-7. Was expecting more from the Jags, they have one of the weakest schedules.

5. Gar-Field @ Stuart (-9)
- Gar-Field won 41-14. Stuart had one good year, (last year) looks like they are fading back to reality now...

6. Hayfield @ Freedom-Woodbridge (-21)
- Freedom won 50-14. Hayfield got 2 garbage time scores against Freedom’s back-up D. Was not expecting it to be that much of a blowout. Freedom is absolutely loaded, could be a long year for the Hawks, however.

7. Langley (-7) @ Edison
- Edison won 31-28. Langley must be worse than I thought. Competitive lower tier game though.

8. Madison (-38) @ Marshall
- Madison won 15-13. Wow. Usually Madison destroys Marshall. Was anyone at this one? Is Marshall better or is this going to be a down year for Madison?

9. McLean @ Osbourn Park (-6)
- McLean won 12-6. First win since 10/28/16. Congrats to the kids at McLean who went through 2 straight 0-10 and one 1-9 season.

10. Mount Vernon @ Hylton (-12)
- Hylton won 35-28 on a late touchdown.

11. Robinson (-24) @ Colgan
- Robinson won 40-14, as expected. Do they have a passing game now? Or is that just a rumor?

12. South County @ Woodbridge (-14)
- South County won 28-6. Wow. Did not see that coming at all. Statement win for the Stallions. Woodbridge should be pissed off after this one. I look for them to regroup in a big way.

13. Stone Bridge (-28) @ Centreville
- Stone Bridge won 28-14. Shields is a good coach. Avery Ford (PVI transfer) is a good receiver. (Also a good basketball player) I expected SB to win by a wider margin, but don’t ever underestimate a Concorde school..

14. T.C. Williams (-27) @ Herndon
- T.C dismantled Herndon 53-0.

15. West Potomac @ Lake Braddock (-13)
- Nailed this one. Lake Braddock won 34-21.

16. West Springfield (-7) @ Forest Park
- I was close with this one as well. WS won 33-27, missing the spread by 1 point.

Let's see if I do better this week. Last week was an eye opener for many programs. As always, let me know what y’all think! Comments and opinions are highly encouraged! Let's do this…

1. Chantilly (-6) @ Langley
- Chantilly looks to have improved. Langley… not so much. Has the potential to be close, but Langley just lost to Edison. Chantilly should be just fine.

2. Colgan @ Mount Vernon (-17)
- MV looking to bounce back after a tough loss. This one could get ugly if Monty wants it to go there...

3. Forest Park @ Annandale (-7)
- Toss up here. Give me Annandale at home in a close one.

4. Hayfield @ South County (-24)
- Co-Game of the week. Hayfield needs to show us something after last week. Real potential to start 0-4. SoCo looked dominant last week, and in the history of the school, they have only lost to Hayfield 2 times.

5. Herndon @ Osbourn Park (-6)
- Another toss up. I have to take OP at home in a close one, after seeing what TC did to Herndon last week. Should be another close lower tier game.

6. Hylton @ West Potomac (-7)
- I thought hard about this one, pretty intriguing game here. WP should be more battle tested, as they had a tougher week 1 opponent. Looking for them to prevail at home.

7. John Champe @ Westfield (-28)
- Look for Westfield to do what they always do...

8. Marshall (-24) @ McLean
- Back to reality for the Highlanders... But hey, who knows, maybe it could be closer than we think.

9. Oakton @ South Lakes (-17)
- South Lakes is fielding a smaller team than they have in recent years.

10. Park View @ Falls Church (-14)
- What a feel good story for Park View. 18 kids came out last year so they cancelled the season. This year, they are fielding a Varsity and Freshman team. Clinton Portis was on hand last week to announce to donation of team cleats from Nike, with the help of an actress who attended PV. (Can't recall her name) Happy for the kids at Park View, I do think FC will not run into any problems in this one.

11. Stone Bridge (-30) @ Madison
- Co-Game of the week. Mickey will run it up. Madison needs to have a better showing this week. "Feels like a loss, doesn't it?"

12. T.C. Williams @ Robinson (-13)
- Robinson always handles T.C. Should be better competition for them, however.

13. Thomas Jefferson @ Lee (-30)

14. Wakefield (-7) @ Fairfax
- Did not think I would ever pick Wakefield in a game, but Fairfax is just that bad it seems.

15. Washington - Lee @ Centreville (-24)
- Look for Centreville to bounce back in a back way this week.

16. Woodrow Wilson (-6) @ Yorktown
- Toss up here. Going with our D.C. neighbors in this one. I would not be surprised if Yorktown gets the win, though.

********** Highland Springs @ Oscar Smith is undoubtably the Virginia HS regular season game of the year. Should be a great game. I'll go with the Springers.

Chantilly got destroyed by Grant and his WR’s, that said Langley does not have Grant under center. Not getting all the hype over Chantilly. Chargers 27-21

Colgan loses big to an angry MTV team 42-10

Atoms win 28-17, not as bad as everyone thought they were gonna be.

Hatfield over rated. SoCo is legit, wins 42-14

Herndon wins. OP is awful, the coach destroyed the Oakton program, leaves and Oakton wins, OP, sooner you discard yourselves of this guy you will then win a game. Is he still running Wishbone? He’s better off coaching at AnkleBiters.

WPO wins and will avoid last sec gaffe that MTV made. Sorry Hylton but you are not that good this year. WPO 28-12

> 7. John Champe @ Westfield (-28)

Def be a better test for WHS. Champe has big play ability with their D1 WR. Bulldogs 35-21

> 8. Marshall (-24) @ McLean

So surprised how GCM played Madison. Even more shocking was McLean winning unfortunately that win streak ends at 1 for Highlander’s. 28-7

> 9. Oakton @ South Lakes (-17)

Oakton in one game almost scored more points than they had all of last season and surpassed win total. Sorry Oakton win streak ends, Seahawks 35-13

Jags by 10. Missing. Dkwandre a lot. 17-7

> 11. Stone Bridge (-30) @ Madison

SB chance to redeem itself after a sloppy win. 42-7 but I’d they fail to put 40+ I think there is a real problem at SB and are lucky Broad Run and Tusky dropped down to 4A.

> 12. T.C. Williams @ Robinson (-13)
> - Robinson always handles T.C. Should be better

Robinson will win even tho TC is way more athletic overall but means nothing cuz Robo is so much better coached and better team chemistry.

> 13. Thomas Jefferson @ Lee (-30)
Lee wins. But let’s see them in a math or debate contest.

> 14. Wakefield (-7) @ Fairfax
> - Did not think I would ever pick Wakefield in a

Fairfax with a heartbreaker last week, see if they can bounce back I doubt it. Think Taylor lost team a long time ago. Wake 28-17

CVHS gets healthy with 55-0 win

Yorktown in a shoot out. 35-28

Looks like Shields and the Fr coach Cliff are taking a page out of Mickeys playbook and have at least 6 kids who should be at other schools and not CVHS. Avery Ford lives in Chantilly, older brother went to Chantilly, now he’s using Kuzemkas address but he lives in Clifton and should be going to Robinson. The new Fr coach has a bunch of kids that played SYA but live in Manassas or Herndon. CVHS boosters are in full recruit mode again, only way they can compete in the Concorde. They must be tired of losing to Madison and Westfield.

Chantilly is less terrible than Langley. They can cover six.

MV covers but gives up a lot of points.

Gotta go with Annandale after their showing last week.

24 is a lot but SoCo covers. Hayfield doesn't beat good teams.

Somehow Herndon has lost to OP the last two years. Refs call this game early and demote both teams to JV.

Hylton pulls the surprise win.

Westfield wins but doesn't cover.

Marshall just barely covers.

Yeah back to earth for Oakton.

FC will be way down and barely beat George Mason but Park View got blown out in JV games last year. FC covers 14 easy.

Stone Bridge is the one team that can score against Madison the last couple years

TC beat Robinson two years ago and the TC coach is better than the perennially underachieving Robinson coach. That said, Robinson wins but just misses the cover.

It's a little disrespectful to Lee that TJ still schedules them. The Lancers cover by halftime.

You are stronger men than me, I can't bring myself to pick Wakefield against a non-district opponent.

New name, same crappy team. CVille wins with a running clock.

Wilson's QB transferred and their offense is anemic. Yorktown wins a lower-scoring battle.

HS by two scores.

Avery Ford went to Franklin middle school. How the hell is he now at CVHS? Did his family move?

They didn’t move. Using a bogus address, which by the way isn’t even in CVHS zone, it’s in Robinson HS zone. Can someone explain that fuckery?

Learn the rules about school attendance. Asante lived with his brother in the Westfield zone, and moved there prior to his FR year. Not sure who you are talking about with the bleach blonde QB comment, but WF has had two transfers at QB in the past 10-12 years (Scanlon and the kid from Chantilly who was QB on 2008 if I recall), and both of those were legit move-ins with family or, Scanlon's case, he transferred from private school and his family already lived in the zone. Every other QB has resided in the zone and attended since 9th grade.

African American quarterback who bleached his hair a few years ago. Then there were the Westfield safety and two lineman in recent years. Westfield is the worst.

He lives in Westfield district always has. He played SYA football. If you don’t have facts or to lazy to fact-check don’t spew bs hoping something might stick.

Champe JV 2-0. Big and easy wins over Freedom PCW and Westfield. Not even close.

Work with me on this one, Freedom’s coach Overton’s twitter says he resides in Burke. He’s also the founder of a peewee program. (Playmakers Elite) Freedom just started becoming a good program. Lake Braddock is on a steep decline. It was the complete opposite about 5 years ago. Is it possible that Overton is taking all of the Burke talent with him to Freedom?

So sad that Westfield fans try to deny all of the bullshit the school has pulled over the years going back to the dixie cups, the drugs, shady transfers, many other things. Guess football success is the only important thing they want to try and teach.

Not one single shred of proof have u ever provided just a bunch of accusations. Guess what we can throw around accusations too, like you’re gay, wear women’s underwear.

The dixie cup party tradition will arise again at Westfield this weekend. Time to orient a new legion of bulldogs into just how much us parents appreciate what they do. Cups and liquids all purchased with Bulldog Team Supporter funds.

The whole thing is a fuckery. Most of the top teams get transfers aka recruits. Nothing new. Not sure who's in charge of checking anymore these days.
