It ain’t over til it’s over. This is equivalent to GM/Owner giving a vote of confidence to a coach/mgr of a team that is not doing g so well. DSA will regret tangling with coach G. Mess with da bull, u get da horns.

CVHS - Hylton. Should give Wildcats staff a better idea of where they’re at. Annandale is so bad it’s hard to judge. Wildcats JV squad could beat them. Don’t expect Shields to scrimmage them in the future, expect him to line up tougher challenges like they do at WHS with a top MD school or private school.

Lets be honest, scrimmages don't really mean anything. Regular season games tell the truth, and week one is just a week away! These are the week one games we have to look forward to next week! What are your predictions?

***Schedule according to MaxPreps.com***

WEEK 1 (Thurs. Aug 29 @ 7pm)

- West Potomac @ Lake Braddock
- Battlefield @ Westfield
- Robinson @ Colgan
- South County @ Woodbridge
- Chantilly @ Yorktown
- Woodson @ Annandale
- West Springfield @ Forest Park
- Langley @ Edison

(Fri. Aug 30 @ 7pm)
- Hayfield @ Freedom
- Stone Bridge @ Centreville
- Madison @ Marshall
- Mount Vernon @ Hylton
- TC Williams @ Herndon
- Fairfax @ Oakton

***Please check other sources for game date/time...MaxPreps may be wrong!***

Fuck off, Loudon fan. We have so many more consistent programs in Fairfax.
Do you seriously think you could ever beat teams like Centreville or Robinson if you ever had the guts to play them? Hell, Langley or Falls Church would probably beat your soft asses. And don't give me that crap that Robinson has like a thousand more kids than you. The same number of kids come out for football!

Scrimages mean alot if you know what looking for.

WP by 7, WP is a sleeper, good O. Braddock is soft.

Battlefield sucks, 1 player vs. 60, WF by 30.

Colgan well coached but Robinson to physical, Robo by 21.

Soco by 3, Wodbridge more sloppy.

Chantilly runs over York,28-14.\

Woodson lost too much, Annandale by 3.

WS good QB, win 14-7.

Edison destroys Langley 28-7.

Freedom best team in state win 42-7

Shields shuts down Mickey, but loses 14-7

Madison overrated but wins 21-7

MV is better coached win, with a better kicker 17-7.

Eaton runs for 500,TC wins 48-0

Trey better coach wins 14-0 Fx over Oakton.

THIS GAME IS ON FRIDAY, NOT THURSDAY (SOURCE: VHSL Master Schedule). Let's see if all the annual LB hype is true or not. I say the latter.

THIS GAME IS ON FRIDAY, NOT THURSDAY. Kim has been ready to play since July and he is better than last season delivering the ball. Two excellent receivers but the run game needs to jell with their line. BF not what they used to be; WF wins handily in a game with early season mistakes by both teams.

If true, the ROB offense may be interesting but they are still not the ROB of old.

If Woodbridge is what they say they are, SC will be soundly beaten. Samapah is not scheduled to play until week #3 so don't expect to see him next Friday.

ANN supposedly looked bad, like they have for years now. WTW wins easily.

FP is not a good team, but neither is WS. 42 is too many points for WS, IMO.

This falls into the "Who Cares" category, and it is only Week #1?

Hayfield is not going to stay that close to Freedom. Wishful thinking.

A SB big win could be true, but CV looked decent in a scrimmage last night (against a decidedly average Hylton team). CV will only go as far as their new QB can take them so a lot remains to be seen.
>
> > - Madison @ Marshall - Warhawks by 4tds. Will

MAD grinds them down. Recently, Marshall has had gaudy records, but that is built on playing bad teams. Reality comes a-knockin' early this season.

Hylton is average. If MV really has a team, the win this one. Agree on a shootout because neither has a great defense.

Ditto. Both programs are so far in the tank it will take years to resurrect them, assuming that can be done at all.

He was talking about Tusky but while we’re at it coach Griffis, your boy is not that good. How many rings does he have? I’ll wait. Oh how many state championship games has he played in? I’ll wait. Drop down to take the easier rout to avoid Mickey and Highlanf Springs. You all suck. Lose top rb in area cuz you want to showcase your son for selfish reasons instead of what’s best for the team. That’s why you suck and will never win the big game let alone make it to the dance.

I saw Woodbridge v. MV, MV is way better than they used to be. If South County beats Woodbridge they are they will be the team to beat in 6C. Woodbridge is the real deal. Westfield will win D. Oscar Smith in east and Freedom or Woodbridge. Stop with Madison or Braddock, too white, too slow, too under coached and really too scared to compete. Final 4-OS v. Freedom, Soco v. WF. WF wining it again with a below average and team with great coaching.

We not only have the best staff in the state, we also have the best QB and best TE.

West Potomac is first up, they are going to feel Doc's wrath

Either Freedom or Smith. It doesn't matter, Westfield likely won't get back to the Title game. South Region will smack any Northern team this year!

As part of my job, I watch all of the local teams in the area. I also like to check in every once in awhile to this site to see what is being said. Rarely do I feel compelled to join in but this guy compelled me to do so. You do realize that Broad Run doesn't have a say in what division they play in, don't you? And you do realize that they voluntarily scheduled Stone Bridge this year as a non-conference game, correct? And you do realize that college recruiters could care less about how many rings or state championships a kid has when they look at how he might translate to the college game, right?

And you did see Griffis' kid torch Stone Bridge as a freshman, right? And again last year? And you do know that Griffis and Thompson like each other, as Griffis coached for him for ten years?

My son plays for a well-respected program in Fairfax County. I wish they were better, but Fairfax County is not nearly as talented or well-coached as the top teams in Loudoun, Prince William, or Maryland (west of 95). Our schools are bigger and more established and I am telling you, we will be over .500 this year in our conference, but would get blown out by the top 4 or 5 teams in Loudoun and Prince William, Just the facts.

There are ZERO teams in Northern VA that can compete with Highland Springs. Not going to happen. So, asking why Loudon Co teams can beat the Springs is a mute argument when none of the Class 6 Teams could beat them either. The best team, Freedom PW got torched by them a couple of weeks ago @ their scrimmage and the Springers only played their #1's for 2 series!

Freedom is overrated. A minute away from losing to WTW, if not for bad coaching from DC Cavs win. Bulldogs qb doesn’t get hurt Wagles def lose that game. Funny how everyone. Said same thing about OS, no team from North can beat them, Bulldogs proved everyone wrong 3X in a row just to show it wasn’t no fluke.

Freedom has recruited to nearly match what Manchester achieved last year. Smith is VERY young this year with 2 seniors transferring out to Life Christian & St Francis A. But they still have the talent to compete vs Freedom this year.Sorry but the gig is over for Westfield. They'll likely make make deep runs in the Northern Region but the Titles will be coming from the South Region for the next 5 years or so!

Trust me, I am not a Mickey Thompson fan. He has cost his kids a chance at a couple of titles, but seriously... Westfield would not have beaten Highland Springs in the past 5 years either. Losing to the Springers is nothing to be ashamed of. Look at what Loudoun teams did to Fairfax when they have played. Doc lost by 66 to SB! Broad Run hung up 56 on Centreville. Briar Woods came in fourth in the district after McSorley left... and still beat Westfield!

GTFO!

It's hard to trust the trends but the reality IS that the talent has shifted out west and south from the Faifax schools. Just like Oakton & Battlefield Where the powerhouse teams, Westfield will slowly become weaker over time. It's just how things go. BTW, Hivhland Spirings is building a new school! So, it's very possible that they'll move up to 6A in a couple of years. Unless coach Johnson moves on to another school, look for things to get worse for Fairfax schools!

Get that LoCo shit out of here. Before Highland Springs, Stone Bridge opened their ass hole to Phoebus. NO LOUDOUN TEAM WILL EVER GET IT DONE. That’s just the way it is, as Bruce Hornsby once said. At least WF has rings to back it up. Yes, the talent will eventually move out of the county. But at least Fairfax has done better than LoCo. (That’s what we refer to the little brother as.)

You're delusional. Fairfax schools regularly get spanked with their red ass bare bottoms showing. Westfield won't schedule them & there is zero doubt that Class 5 teams and maybe even top tier Class 4 schools are the best teams in Virginia. Last year Lake Taylor (Class 4A) crushed Freedom! If you don't realize that, you clearly have never played football. Being in the Marching band doesn't count, either.

2018
SOS Woodgrove = 0.685
SOS Westfield = 0.575

That took me 2 minutes to research. You must be drunk and sad, alone and upset about how the Bulldogs are no longer top dogs any more
Highland Springs are 4 time champs going for 5 & Smith has been the most Dominant team of the Decade. I think I'd rather be a fan of the team that can challenge for titles for over a decade instead of the winning 3-4 time then falling off & never getting back to win the title again!

Point made, thanks. None of the above links prove that Westfield plays the toughest schedule year in and year out. Try playing a WCAC schedule or how about a MIC (IN) schedule. Heck why have the Bulldogs stopped scheduling Loudon Country schools AND why did they push sooooo hard for putting Prince William Schools into Class 6B? I think Simmons saw the future. With his Top Assistant transferring to CHS & realizing where all the best talent in Northern Virginia lives, he is just trying to stay ahead by keeping his schedule week now compared to what it used to be!

The future is inevitable. Look for Simmons to go find a private school gig like his predecessor!

That first link literally shows Westfield as having the most difficult strength of schedule over the entire time they have been open.

I specifically cherry picked last year SOS to prove your state is incorrect. In 2018, they didn't have the toughest schedule, fact. There done and over old history. Your Bulldogs are running from competition and turned down multiple offers to play Highland Springs. That's another fact.

To be the best, you gotta play the best. Never scheduled Nationally Ranked teams. At least Oscar Smith NEVER runs from a challenge!!!

I can tell you that for this current football cycle coaches had very little input in the schedule. Very little.

You certainly have a hard on for the Bulldogs. What’s the matter still salty cuz they beat you (your team) probably in playoffs a few times. Some of your arguments make no sense and kind of stupid. Why would WHS schedule a game with HS for a Friday night? Do you realize the logistical nightmare that would be? For a school that doesn’t recruit and ply kids that have been there since Fr year I think they do alright. 5 states championships in 19yrs they've been open is something OS wish they had as well as any school not named HSprings or Phoebus. So quit drinking your morning cup of haterade, you are such a bitter old man who’s mad cuz he’s not relevant nor is the team your associated with. WHS is not concerned with Natl rankings. They are concerned with 6A, not 5 or 4. So if playing you is not going to benefit them they don’t have time for you. Seriously if you are coach you probably got fired recently or your team sucks and should be focusing on fixing/making your team better or you applied to be on staff and Simmons gave you the Heisman stiff arm and “thanks but no thanks” instead of obsessing on some anon-message board. Jealous of Simmons hardware. #loser #neverwonstates

How quick you are to eat your own. Wasn’t that long ago “Wildcat Nation” was proclaiming Pres to be the “next great thing” and lead them to multiple states ships. Trust me, you’re gonna wish you had Pres again. Current team will make you long for the seasons when you went 8-2. Mark it down CVHS goes 5-5 and misses playoffs and will only get worse next year.

Hello all! That time of the year is now upon us. I hope you all had a good offseason. This is year 2 of me putting spreads out there for Fairfax County schools. Loudoun folks, I don't know too much about your side of town, so I won't do Loudoun spreads regularly. I will, however, give a couple of games a shot every now and then. Loudoun has grown so much since my kids played. Seems like there's a new school opening every year. Prince William folks, somewhat of the same situation, just not 10 new schools. I will try a couple of Prince William spreads every now and then, also. Here we go....

1. Annandale @ Woodson (-24)
- Has WTW lost a step after a great year last year?

2. Battlefield @ Westfield (-21)
- Noah Kim is back for the Bulldogs. Played summer league basketball for WF and looks healthy. I remember when Battlefield was dominant..

3. Fairfax (-17) @ Oakton
- Has Oakton gotten any better? Wouldn't surprise me to see the Rebels start 3-0, then lose 7 straight.

4. Falls Church (-30) @ George Mason
- FC with the powderpuff schedule, per usual.

5. Gar-Field @ Stuart (-9)
- Stuart had a great year last year. (7-3 and missed the playoffs.) Lets see how they look this year.

6. Hayfield @ Freedom-Woodbridge (-21)
- Both teams have athletes, the difference in this game will be size. Freedom is absolutely huge.

7. Langley (-7) @ Edison
- 2 teams coming off 3-7 seasons. Somebody will be happy after this one. Langley is bad, but Edison is worse I believe.

8. Madison (-38) @ Marshall
- The annual Madison beatdown of GCM.

9. McLean @ Osbourn Park (-6)
- McLean has not won a game since 10/28/16.(!!!!) Rising juniors at McLean have never won a football game. Wow. This is McLean's best chance to win a game this year.

10. Mount Vernon @ Hylton (-12)
- Intriguing match up here. Athletes all over the field. I think Hylton will prevail.

11. Robinson (-24) @ Colgan
- Another newer school that I know nothing about. Look for the Rams to cover, though.

12. South County @ Woodbridge (-14)
- Game of the week. It's said this Woodbridge team is extremely good. We shall see. Great early season match up for both schools.

13. Stone Bridge (-28) @ Centreville
- The Haddock era is over at Centreville. Let's see how Shields does. Centreville will probably run a similar scheme that they run at Westfield. Let's see how many new guys Mickey grabbed this offseason.

14. T.C. Williams (-27) @ Herndon
- T.C. is playing their "home" slate this year indoors at The St. James. That's interesting. This game won't be interesting, however. Look for T.C. to cover.

15. West Potomac @ Lake Braddock (-13)
- LB has gotten worse over the years. (2015: 11-2, 2016: 11-2, 2017: 8-4, 2018: 7-4) The LB supporters on here seem to think this year will be different. I don't see it. Prove me wrong.

16. West Springfield (-7) @ Forest Park

Uh huh, Highland Springs is playing Smith September 6th, that's a Friday Night. Colonial Forge isn't afraid of them either. I'm pretty sure the coaches help set up those games.

No, it was after the James Madison game because Stone Bridge "only" won 49-21...after they toasted Lake Braddock

SB by far the best team in NOVA regardless of division. What they did to LB and Madison, 6A finest was embarrassing. Westfield granted they beat LB pretty handily, squeaked by Madison. SB would’ve won by 21 against WHS. I’s like To see SB take on PWCO’s finest in FreedomW & Woodbridge. They all recruit. They have big lines up front. Would be some great games.

What's"spin away" mean?

Why won't Simmons schedule Loudon County Schools?

They have Champe on the schedule this year and next.

You do realize who Smith plays in their conference, yes? Full of D4 and D5 teams. They SHOULD dominate that sort of schedule, and until last year had not lost a conference game in about 10 years. Yes, they are good. Yes, on paper they dominate. But when it gets really tough, in the semis and finals, they are not that successful/dominant.

Not sure you understand the scheduling. When the VHSL realigned and put some more PW schools in Region D, and split most of the FFX schools into Regions C & D, the logic on scheduling was to schedule school in your region. That is why you see most schools playing within their respective regions. Not "fear" or "seeing the handwriting on the wall".

Westfield better watch out, J Champe has beaten Centreville AND they have some decent underclassmen talent that came up from an undefeated JV team.

Westfield has been repeatedly asked by the Springers to set up a Home and Home Series but the Bulldogs turned them down every time. Regardless, of the reasons, there IS the appearance of running away from tougher opponents. There's one way to clear that up......

Who the fuck wants to deal with 95 on a Fri rush hour? You’d have to be an idiot. Simmons is not running from anyone, he will play whatever schedule is given to him and will help his team during the season. But there is no benefit for scheduling a pain in the ass game against a team that he won face in playoffs or championship game. Why do you obsess with WHS and their scheduling. You are a troll, probably a Centreville or Madison coach/parent. Just butter at the success of the Bulldogs.

A troll maybe, but the truth has seemed to have touched a nerve. BTW, Both Freedom AND Colonial Forge have added Highland Springs. Otherwise, what's the problem with playing Broad Run, Tuscky, SB, Woodgrove? You know J. Champe is a second tier team but y'all could have a tough time against them.

Goes to show your ignorance. Freedom scheduled a scrimmage against them. CF, logistically makes sense. Just how stupid are you. What about al the years WHS scrimmage QO, DeMatha, St Johns, Bishop Spalding. Yeah got nothing to say about that. Mean while CVHS scrimmages Annandale. You suck. Worry about your own SOS, beat Madison, win the Concord then come talk all the shit you want on here.

Wait. I heard it was Oscar Smith that was begging for a game. Also heard it was Tuscarora. And Stone Bridge. And Freedom. And Woodbridge. Or was it Manchester. Or Lake Taylor. Or Bird. Or maybe you are just making it all up.

Not happening this year. Beat Madison which won’t happen again this year and you’ll probably lose to Chantilly.

Smith is playing Highland Springs Friday Night, Sept 6th...The Springers are heavy favorites and expected to go 15-0 Again this year, setting a record of 5 consecutive State Titles. No Class 6 C or D teams will play them. Especially after they also trounced Freedom PW during their scrimmage a couple of weeks ago!

Good for OS & HS but what does that have to do with the price of rice in China? Outcome of HS season bares no weight on what happens in 6 North region or all of 6 period. Both those schools actively recruit and poach top talent from surrounding schools. Since you’re so high on them why don’t you go be a ballboy for them. Westfield and Centreville have proven they can play and win against anyone in the state championship game.

While WF has a staff full of head coaches, both past and present, they do underachieve...

It's time to jump off of the WF and CV train and start respecting these other teams, they deserve and have earned everyone's respect! I'm still a believer in if Soco can figure out their defensive problems, they are going to be the team this year.

Was this you? Right before Westfield won 3-in-a-row?

I'm just trolling. My whole thing is to get everyone on FFU to understand that Class 6 C & D will only be the patsy for which ever team they play vs the South Regional Champs. Be it Freedom, C. Forge or Smith, it won't matter. With most the talent moving west and the South Regions ability to attract transfers, y'all have zero chance. Just feel lucky that for now no more schools in Loudon Country are moving up to Class 6, else even Westfield & Centreville would be no better than Oakton. It's just how things go, better get used to it.

If Champe beats Westfield this season, I'd say the trend is moving faster & your family's should be moving West too, or get left behind!

Probably, I'm consistent that way. Huh, I'm glad to see that. Here's a bit of fun info. We've known that Highland Springs is the best team in Virginia AND we know that Westfield is afraid to play them. Now that the Springers have been recognized as a Nationally Ranked Team, there is ZERO chance that Coach Simmons will answer the phone when his caller ID shows it's coming from the 804.

I saw the Freedom vs SoCo scrimmage last week, both teams struggled at first but SoCo seemed a bit better when ones played ones. PWC football is very weak with the exception of a bit above average, Freedom and Woodbridge. Freedom should beat Hayfield handily, if they play smart. Big #71 is a horse for Freedom and if they grind it out could be a very long demoralizing night for the Hawks. The Hawks are in dire need of line play. Throw in the fact that both teams are very undisciplined, look for a flag fest on Thursday.

SoCo vs Woodbridge could be the game of the week. Coach P will have the Stallions ready but can they adjust to the size of the Vikings? Could be a fun game.

News flash dickweed, WHS doesn’t care about Natl rankings. They care about titles. So at the end of the day your obsession with who WHS plays or doesn’t play has no baring on WHS coaches, staff, players or supporters. Worry about your own sorry team and who they are playing. Why don’t CVHS schedule HS oh cuz they like to schedule Annandale to make them feel good about themselves

Not a westfield follower, but the HS and SB arguments against them are dumb. There is ZERO benefit of a 6A school playing a 5A team with Virginia power point system. Only SB and HS benefit from that game won or lose because of all the points Westfield accumulates. That is REAL reason all of those schools want to play the Westfields, Centrevilles, and Madisons. Even if they lose, they gain all of those power points since those school play tougher 6A schedules, and if somehow they win, which they havent done consistantly, you get their trolls on here.

Without the Trolls, FFU wouldn't exist. If you want to have an adult discussion about your team, I suggest creating an account on VaPreps.com. spend some time within the Class 4 & 5 sections and see if you can elevate the Class 6 discussion close to those boards.

Westfield will not play them for one reason: nothing to gain. Both are among the best programs in the state. Yes, currently, HS is a better team. When you add in that getting up/down I-95 at that time of day with the reduced gate since many visitor fans will not travel, as well as one team taking a loss that can significantly affect playoff rankings, it is not worth it.

That's one way to look at it. The other is that Concord District only has 5 games. Go look for opponents that are going to win a bunch of games in a very weak district to prop up the power points. But NEVER consider playing a really tough team on a Saturday which will clean your clocks. Whatever you do, don't schedule WCAC Schools and stay way from Freedom, Woodbridge, Colonial Forge, Broad Run, SB, Tusky, Milbrook, etc. Getting exposed will reduce your teams numbers, too.

Maybe that argument could hold water if WHS hadn't won states 3X in a row and has done tremendously well against PWCO schools. Nice try but weak argument.

They obviously haven't been paying attention to what's going on in Virginia HS football. They ignored how Feedom knocked Westfield out of the playoffs and how the only teams to have beaten them were the Class 6 state champs & the Class 4 finalists? How about shifting #6 down to #19 and put Freedom in that # 6 spot?

20. Lake Braddock finished strong last year? Didn't SoCo beat them twice last year to end their season? How are the rank ahead of SoCo?

Biggest crock of shit! WTW did better than LB & SOCO, no respect.

The WP rankings need help. They obviously give reputation points out. You are not going to automatically get a pre-season high ranking based on 1 good season.

Wapo gutted their high school coverage years ago. Ranking DMV independents and privates together is pointless because they don't play each other. They recently came out with their "must watch" games of the season. They picked Fairfax vs TC Williams.

Last year has very little impact on this year's rankings. The only real marquee player Freedom has coming back is Powell, and he is not quite as good as Kim. This year, at least at this point in time, Freedom is not expected to have as good a team as Westfield. THAT is why they are ranked lower. Zero to do with the results of one playoff game that was quite even overall, with Westfield having a bit more skill and discipline, but falling because of the overall better size and athleticism of Freedom. The injury to Kim certainly did not help but no matter who won that game they were not going to beat Manchester.

Talk about lazy journalism. They re-ran that from 30yrs ago. Honestly, Fairfax is a dumpster fire and could be worse than Oakton was last year. Coach Taylor has run off so many kids and threatened to have a cut day! The audacity and hubris of this guy. This ain’t SL, there is no Albert Mnesah or Spencer Alston walling the halls of Fairfax. Trey must go!

Obviously, Bulldog fan are yah? Let's see how the season goes. Who is going to beat the Eagles this year? They start out with a decent test but if they beat Colonial Forge, they'll likely be returning to the State Title game. That game could be against Westfield but not because of how good they are but more do to that fact that Class 6 C & D is so weak. With VHSL realignment, Simmons got what he wanted by sending PW schools into the now much tougher South Regional!

They are stacked with athletes. They could shock some teams and people this year.

Stonewall is trash. They’ll be trash again this year. Beat someone who’s DECENT, then come back and talk.

Did not know Simmons had so much pull. C’mon get real.
