The Springers schedule is tough, and it should be. But North Stafford will not be that good. Only C-Fordge, Smith, Dale, and Varina are quality teams they play this year. Who knows if Manchester can compete, they lost a ton of talent. So don't feel too sorry for the state champions.

Freedom will be the team to beat in D6 this year. No coach recruits better than Overton. Woodbridge is close, but they need a QB which they don't have.

Well Doc is preparing Lake Braddock to play 15 games this year.
So South County, Westfield, Hayfield and all the others better be ready. Everyone knows its mot going to be easy, because they play one of the toughest schedule in the state, but Doc and staff gave been preparing this team for 15 games all off season.

This is most talented Bruins team ever and with a new revised coaching staff, most people are picking Lake Braddock to win the state championship this year and next year.

It's NOT the same as it used to be. A 6 C/D team will never have to play down in Hampton Roads to win a regional Championship like Westfield did in 2007. With the desparity in the Class 6 schools, no one would allow things to return to the old format either.

Answer to the problem is to allow cross bracketing at the Semi-State games!

Blame the vhsl for the changes to the playoff system. This was all done so they could collect more money from ticket sales.

6D is far superior to 6C, you all are putting Westfield Centreville and Madison parallel to Lake Braddock, SOCO, and Mt Vernon. 6C is trash. Championship game will be MTV vs SOCO, and there will be no close games along the way, barring Doc “playing significant football” and losing to South County by 20. Mount Vernon is going out perform everyone’s expectations, and Lake Braddock is gonna bear bad teams and get curbstomped by good ones. Simple as that.

Thoughts for today:

Damn Freedom scrimmages Highland Springs? Good test.

Braddock will be trash. Whoever this troll is needs to cut it.

Whoever posted that ‘07 WF post is right on. It is a lot easier to win (or get to) a state championship coming from the northern part Look at basketball, LB played Soco for like the 9th time in the state semi’s. (!!!!) It’s ridiculous.

Oscar Smith will be the team to beat in D6.
Highland Springs in D5.

Happy sunday y’all!

Not really. Scrimmages show little to nothing except that coaches get to look at their players and how they fit into the system, but I expect HS will handle Freedom quite easily.

Disagree here unless you are talking about game locations. The travel for the South is certainly worse, but the competition for the state semis and the final slot is almost always better in the north. The north has more high quality teams than the south almost every year.

I tend to agree. If you go back to every hs football thread since 2011 there are people insisting that the best teams are from the south and the 703 doesn’t stand a chance. Fairfax County teams have won 4 of the last 8 titles in Class 6 (Fairfax County 4, Beach 2, Richmond 2). Not bad at all.

The only ones picking Braddock to do anything, is Doc and his trolls on here.
They cant beat SoCo or Westfield, they will struggle with West Potomac, Hayfield, Robinson and Woodson.

Remember, this is the same coach who had 10 players that are playing at the next level, last year and couldn't win a single playoff game. Why should this year be any different?

Sorry, but this coach is more of program manager, someone who is doing just enough to not lose his job, then he is about getting this program to the next level. The talent is there to make a deep playoff run every year, but the coaching isn't.

I do not believe Simmons would claim to be greater than Dall. Dall won 1 region. Poythress reached the final. It was pointed out recently that the only D1 starter Poythress had was a kicker. Yes, he got kids signed but they all washed out or played 1AA. Not sure how many D1s Dall had, but not many. Simmons inherited an ideal situation and has done well, but inheriting is not building. Further, WF has cheaper housing which means more minorities. That was a compliment to skill. Only Doc can win it all.

Let’s not make coach P to be some genius Belichek cuz he’s had his share of playoff gaffes. Last really good team 2015 season LB had and he’s facing a good not great team from SL and he wets the bed by by trying to play smash mouth football against SL. They got drubbed. Should’ve stuck with what got them there in the first place, big plays from the passing game. If memory serves me correct SL went onto the next game and got destroyed by Bulldogs, game was over mid way thru the 2nd qtr & Bulldogs did it by throwing bombs over top of the SL defense.

What re-building wound Simmons needed to have done if he had been at LB? They have had way more talent than WF over those years to current day. Simmons would have easily produced similar if. It better results had he been HC at LB.

No doubt P made some mistakes and he took responsibility for them.
But this doc guy cant get past the one and done phase.

All I have heard from him is excuses, schedule to hard, playoff draw not favorable, talent graduated, I mean, come on man!!!

Only thing wrong was the year bitch!(2016) LB scored 1 TD in the first qtr and then 2 garbage time tds late in the 4th. By then game was over. He tried to run Lamont and failed miserably. Defense exposed cut they kept going 3 and out and poor field positioning. So YOU STFU! That’s why y’all lost, punk ass!

WHS - SL finals to face 6C with Bulldogs beating SL (cuz that’s what they do)

Region 6A OS - Ocean Lakes - Winner OS
Region 6B Woodbridge - Freedom - Woodbridge

Woodbridge - OS - winner Woodbridge.

Bulldogs take down SOCO to face Woodbridge in states. Bulldogs win 34-14

Westfield could lose to Madison Twice this year. They won't get to the regional Final. Woodbridge won't beat Colonial Forge or Freedom. Favorites for the South Region will be Smith & OL. Whichever of those 2 teams gets to the Regional Finals State Game will take the Title.

FYI, Freedom is traveling to Randolph Macon to Scrimmage Highland Springs tomorrow morning at 10:00! It'll be the best test of the scrimmage period!

Ratings at the start of the year are hit or miss at best. With the continued physical and mental growth of the rising players, and another summer/fall of practice, games and coaching, you never know which team will have the unforeseen talent and athleticism to become a force into the playoffs.

Injuries, experience, timing, desire, heart and fear also play into the mix, with teams that on paper and from recent games appear to be the Goliath, but fall to the David's who offset the balance with other attributes.(SOCO, LB and Madison as more recent examples of a a favorite going home early and often come playoff time. Westfield's loss of Kim to the broken leg is a perfect example of injury and timing together.)

So keep on prognosticating, then sit back and let the games began. The team to beat at the start of the year is certainly worth watching, but there are always others who climb up/or back up the mountain to place their banner on the summit!

OK, yes I did leave out officiating and it's potential to change a game and ultimately who wins, but true champions almost always seem to adapt and overcome such calls. How a specific call went, and more important the many calls (or lack of calls) throughout the game went is often overlooked by the whiner after the game. Missed calls, bad calls and good calls are part of the game. Even with all the equipment available to the NFL, they still have countless missed and bad calls during a game.

So go out and support your team win or lose, because that is how life works. Nobody can win them all, bad things happen to good people, and ultimately life is not just or fair to everyone. Playing the game for most of the players at this level is not about building a football career, but teaching them the lessons of life for their future. Yes a few will go on to the next level (some with scholarships) and succeed, but a very small percentage even get a tryout in the NFL.

9. Annandale - student body make up is not conducive for the sport
8. W&L - when were they ever relevant
7. Edison - Chaos, sad cuz they could be decent
6. Herndon - Split boundary with WF doesn’t help
5. Wakefield - Are any Arl schools decent?
4. Oakton - seems like they hired a competent coach this time. May win a game this year
3. Langley - on everyone’s homecoming list.
2. McLean - on everyone’s homecoming wish list, can see them dropping football altogether someday.
1. Worst of the worst..... Fairfax - be lucky to win a game, they will long for the coach who Taylor replaced. Taylor doesn’t have much talent and his “cut” day does not help anyone.

I think some of these schools are who Falls Church plays and goes 6-4, then wonders why they get no respect when playoff times comes.

Freedom PW scrimmage vs Highland Springs.

Freedom is HUGE. Big receivers & OL but they play with NO heart & zero intensity. That being said, they played the Springers pretty evenly & will be a force in 6B. If they lose any games, it's going to be due their lack of discipline and focus.

Freedom seems to be emulating Westfield's offense by utilizing very tall receivers who are adept at the push off fade & slant patterns and combining a run game behind those MAC trucks up front. I doubt any team's in the area will have anything that'll come close to beating them.

Westfield had their intra-squad scrimmage today.

Kim looked really good - showed some good speed and elusiveness on a +30 yard run and hit a couple of big pass plays to the WR that transferred from Stonewall.

Offensive line still sucks. Interesting but the JV offensive line is MUCH larger than the varsity right now.

Defense looks like it won't miss a beat. Stuffed the run, forced fumbles and evenn had a pick on Kim. The new #8 looks like he will be a force. Dline solid.

Looks like the same old Westfield minus Asante/Morin. How much of differnence that lack of game-changing talent makes will be the story of the season. Not saying it will be easy. Lots of coaching to be done

HS 1st team offense barely played. Two of the FR TDs were against the HS 2nd team, which is still a decent unit, but FR should be good again. I think if both teams play their 1s it is not nearly even. HS is just that good this year.

Very accurate assessment. As with most teams at this time of year the Def is ahead of the Off at this point in time. The Def has a lot more size than usual and I expect they will be very good; if those new faces on Def jell they will be very, very good on Def. The O-line is skinny so they are certainly the weak link at this point. They do have game changing talent on Off - Kim has a sold WR corps and they and the RB position will be fine if the O-line can at least hold their own. At RB, there is huge potential waiting to bust out - Daniels has a Soph, McHale, behind him that is going to play college ball one day, and if Daniels doesn't step up his game McHale might overtake him as the starter, IMO.

They got a transfer from PVI, tall WR 6’4”-5”. Expect them to run an offense that will look like Bulldogs last year. This new kid will emulate #17 for Bulldogs past couple of seasons. Unfortunately they lost their top WR to a knee injury. Don’t judge Wildcats based on their home opener against Stone Bridge. Word has it Shields may not even play his QB1 that game so he doesn’t get killed or shellshocked for rest of the season. All in all they will be 6 or 7 win team. They still won’t beat Madison.

Well coached team that isn’t super athletic. Fundamentally sound, everyone hustles, plays hard and tackles well, blocks well but won’t beat you with talent they will put work and hit you. That being said they lost some really good leaders from this past season. They are still good enough to beat CVHS but not WHS. They need to replace Walker, Finney, Counts & Wyaocki and dew others and unless they were able to recruit or get some transfers don’t think they can with the talent they have coming up through their ranks.

Madison will be 4-6 at best, they will lose to Stone Bridge, WF, C-ville, Robo, Soco and Tilley. Yes.I said Chantilly. They have zero athletes. Walker and Finney carried them last year on offense. Stop hyping them up, you are smoking too much.

Stop the hype train, no one is buying Tilly. They have 1 overrated OL because of his size. Yes on paper he looks good but that’s it. Dylan Sparks was that team last year and he is gone, Pierre will get rag dolled as the main back. They have no Wr’s, when’s the last time they completed a pass? No hands to go with no speed and no Qb to throw the ball. Current Qb is a FB who can’t throw, if he had any accuracy or decent arm strength they would have a chance at 5-6 wins

This is obviously a chantilly fan, I know you didn’t just say chantilly was good last year, they won 3 damn games. And when has Madison ever had names, they won 29 games in 3 years, the warhawks will be the team to beat this year

Still have no names? Madison's freshman should be good they have 60 players out. Madison's slow nerds will struggle at Woodgrove tomorrow night. And you hot dog loving losers will make excuses on how Madison is the team to beat. It's not good football and you know it. Slow and predictable, They'll finish 4th in the Concord and you'll you'll be talking them up for the 2020 season when all those freshman come up next year. Be patient Vienna, you'll be good next year.

Robinson passed the ball 30 times in their scrimmage vs Battlefield last night. They actually completed about 80% as well. They get a passing game going with their traditional run game...I believe they will win their conference OVER SoCO or LB!

I was at the game, I know it is the first scrimmage, so I am not sure if Robinson looked good or Battlefield looked terrible. Most of Robinson's passes were simple routes that Battlefield wasn't prepared to defend. I would hope Battlefield will be better prepared for the next scrimmage. Robinson did line up in a lot of straight spread, which is a lot different for them. A lot of teams run spread in NOVA, so most will be a little more prepared

If Robinson can have a passing game out of formations that they can still use their run game, they will be a problem. Their OL play has always been better than everyone else in the area. Hopefully this new pass offense will help shore up their leaky pass defense.

Told you they got a new qb/oc guru who came from private school. Apparently he’s worked with lots of local kids many of whom have offers to play at the next level. Robo could be a problem.

Combination of both, Battlefield is that bad. They want to spread but have very weak armed quarterbacks. Makes no sense. New HC looks clueless during his media day. One more losing season and they go back to struggling fielding a team.

How in the world are you talking about how good a team is going to be based off the first scrimmage? I think the only thing you can get out of last week is a teams depth. The rest is just a cover, nothing else about a first scrimmage is in the core. Second scrimmage you can start to see what a team really has to work with.

Mr. Baldwin? I didn't notice you at the scrimmage on Thursday. Were you in fact there? Oh, and please let everyone know that Michigan is not coming anywhere near your son. You know, your son? The kid that you single handedly ruined? The son that you shopped around to every school in Loudoun County but no one would touch him. Because of you.

You had to go all the way out to Prince William to find a school that would ingest this cancer!

Oh, and Broad Run stomped Champe. Champe didn't score all night.

Don't worry - Tim still might get a low D1 offer. Nothing wrong with that. Just give it up when it comes to the ACC. SEC, or Big 10. They know all about you and will have nothing to do with him.

I hope you feel proud.

Coach Griffis or staff, pls stay off the FU. Doesn’t look good on you the hate. Let’s see what your boy can do without Timmy back there to draw the attention of the defense. Can’t blame him for leaving a toxic environment where coach wants to highlight his kid and not do what’s best for the team.

James Madison for one...in the playoffs 3 years in a row and 2 regional finals

Last year' seniors:
FBS - Max Wysocki - preferred walk on at Oregon
FCS - John Finney - JMU
DIII - Josh Barker & Casey Counts - Salisbury
Brandon Walker - Stevenson
...probably a few other DIII kids.

So...solid well-coached team...definitely not loaded with D1 talent like Stonebridge, Westfield, etc.

LB and Doc are smart, they are not going to show their hand in these scrimmages. In the regular season they will crush Mt Vernon. They have a star QB and TE and a few other young bucks and they were conservative, not wanting injuries in a scrimmage. When the season opens with West Potomac, you will see a different and hungry team.

The cards have been dealt and Doc is holding a royal flush, watch out region

Remember this, We are preparing for 15 games!

Bottom line, no one wins the State unless their coaching staff attracts talent to play for them. Westfield tries to claim home grown talent but let's be honest, we all know kids and their families move to the area that's best for them in the middle school years. An elaborate feeder program is responsible for the Bulldogs talent funnel.

As mentioned in other posts, Prince William county schools are getting all the best players now. So, the Class 6 C & D teams just got weaker. Except many of the State Titles to come from the South Regional representative for the near future. Families in Fairfax are also moving farther West to continue the growth of those Class 5 schools that regularly beat y'all. That story is ending for the Concord District Schools.

Frankly, whoever represents the Northern Region will be the patsy for the Championship game. All the best Teams in Virginia HS seem to now be in Class 5! Highland Springs are the new version of the All Star, Hampton type teams of the past. Get used to it!

This claim is way overstated. For the most part Westfield and Centreville have the same feeder system. Yes, there are move-ins and it is (mostly) before high school. But the bulk of Westfield players grew up in the area. Sure there are exceptions (Kim and Asante recently). But if you flip through elementary school yearbooks (done that) nearly all of Westfield players have been here a long time.

The rest of your usual Fairfax Football sucks rantings are nothing new. You probably think you thought of this yourself but if you look diligently you will find similar claims on this board since like 2010. Like clockwork work every July and August. Maybe all the recruiting he does has finally caught up to him. Also Woodbridge has new DSA, Jason Eldridge from West Springfield. Can almost guarantee DSA and Ball coach butting heads over who runs that school. Sit back and relax this gonna get real interesting.

I wouldn’t be surprised if coach O wasn’t the one making calls causing problems for coach G behind the scenes. I’m sure O was tired of losing players to G. O does not like G, especially how inclusive G is and is beloved by EVERYBODY, even white kids and parents in the community.

This too will pass. Give things a couple of years. In most cases, when there are hot coaches that poach from surrounding schools to grow their program, they do hang around long. If Freedom gets back to the State Championship game a couple times, look for their coach to leave for a big cash out, pay raise at a private school or out of state. All those kids & the community will get let down like the guy that leaves his family for the next hot thing he met at a bar. It's sad but AD's fall for this kind of coach all the time!

Just look around the community, is the team helping out to help improve the local youth football programs? If not, he's not planning on hanging around.

Hey dumb asses, was asking the question who does Madison have THIS year. We all know they had some great D3(good high school players) talent last year. Who besides Nero, an okay guard who has to make all the tackles on defense, is going to take this team past WF, C-Ville and Chantilly? No one cares about last year over-achievers it's 2019 and who getting it done this year.

Figured this was crap but took a look and it's true. Virtually all former top Woodbridge players are cut-n-pasting:

"I am disappointed to learn that new changes at Woodbridge HS have come with pre determined action in attempt to remove Coach G & his coaching staff. I am a living testimony of his football program & positive work in the community!"

Sounds like Eldridge was hired partly with the intent to get the football program under control. Never forget that the liberals that run FCPS and PWCS actually hate football. If you don't tow the line of the bureaucratic regimes you fall into disfavor.

They tried to force him out but the community stood up and he ain’t goin anywhere. So suck it Overton & Eldredge, y’all tried to kick him out but that’s the house coach G built, you ain’t gonna forcenhim out when the people have his back! Won’t be long. Wife’s DSA and principal will be replaced, watch.
