There is talk of closing Annandale and merging the students with Falls Church and Justice High School, with a small population to Lake Braddock. The land would then be re-zoned and sold with money going to FCPS to pay down the deficit.
Makes some sense, Justice was just renovated a couple years ago and Falls Church scheduled for a renovation, the timing could be right.

Why is Shields in the paper saying he coordinated our defense for 6 years and coordinated the offense the two years prior? Fact is he was DC for 2 years. G and Everett ran it the 4 years prior. And he never called plays. He was set to but got shook and Coach Simmons had to do it. So, why lie?

Lay off Shields. He's a good guy. He was a good coach and he was a good teacher. I saw him do both with my kids and they liked him. He was 3 times harder on his own sons than he ever was on any of mine who played on his teams. My next door neighbor has a special needs kid who had Shields for PE and loved him. Shields went out of his way to be nice to the kid.

Westfield will continue to roll on without him. But this WF dad is wishing Jon nothing but good luck and success (except when he plays the mighty Bulldogs).

LB is ready to dominate this year, its going to be the year of the Bruins.
We have the best QB in the state with more returning players on offense and defense then anyone in the region. Some new coaches on defense, that will be lights out.Doc has an amazing off season workout program and the boys are looking great.

Last years team has 10 boys playing in college this year.
What a great job Doc and this coaching staff has done, turning this program around

That's why everyone call them the "the best staff in the state"

Yeah, LB - I noticed that LB has a bunch of kids got college offers. I am wondering why if they were so loaded they got handled so easily by teams like Westfield and especially Stone Bridge. And got beat twice by a really mediocre South County. One and done in the playoffs. What makes you think they will perform any better this fall?

Definitely, maybe Shields WAS they key to the Bulldogs success!? There are head coach's that know their success is mostly due to an unheralded assistant & when that person leaves,..... Well you know what happens nex, right?

It sounds to me that Some people might not be too happy they lost a really good Coach. I'm old, so I seem to remember a similar scenario & controversial Coaching break up..I believe Bill Parcells was thought to be one of the great Pro Football coaches back when Bill Belichick was his defense coordinator at NYG and New England.. Belichick left for a very short stint with the Jets only to return to New England.

The history books have forgotten Parcells, hasn't been very successful without Belichick. Some people likely don't even remember his name anymore! And, we all know what the better coach has done with the once lowly Patriots, right? Time will tell & Shields may not be immediately successful at Centreville, but it's possible that he knows something about the opportunity at Centreville which will be what they need to return to their State Tournament days.

This may be one of the dumbest things ever written on this board. And that’s a pretty high bar. This was not written by someone “old”, but rather by a teenager who serves as proof teenagers shouldn’t be allowed to speak in public, much less vote.

Shields is a good coach. However, he wasn't even a coordinator on Simmons first two titles. If he said he was then he is a liar. A newspaper article quoted him as claiming to be more than he was which irked some people. Then it was suggested that he "may" have misled the panel at his interview by fudging his resume. That was the reference to George O'Leary who lied about something silly on his resume at Note Dame. Sanabria and Lehman need to check that resume so we can move forward.

Who cares! Everyone embellishes their experiences. Maybe he was the quasi coordinator. Whatever it was, I am sure he played a very important role in helping them win the titles. He is a very good coach and certainly is qualified to run the program. I am sure Simmons will back up anything that Shields said.

I dont see Braddock being any better then they were last year, most likely worse! If they really have 10 players playing in college from that last years team, why couldn't they make a run in the playoffs? Coaching? BTW...who is calling them the best staff in the state? the HC? Attention Braddock people how about this, win something before you run your mouth about how good your coach and team are

Are you retarded? Do you know how good and deep the talent was at CVHS during their run? They had tremendous size along both Off & Def lines. They had freak athletes that could run by you or run over and sometimes do both on the same run just because. CVHS does not and will not have that kind of talent EVER AGAIN! They are 7-3 or 8-2 reg season and 2 playoff games type team. No amount of coaching will overcome the lack of talent they have to compete with the top 6A teams in VA.

You definitely are retarded! Your QB is a good at best. Nowhere near the best in the state. May not even be the best on the team but daddy’s politics are obviously helping little Jimmy out. Let’s see him win a title first.

Yep, you and me. We're both retarded. But it just takes a good Coaching staff to get the few difference makers to choose CVHS over WHS. It CAN happen, you just have to get the kids to make the turn around & things will happen! But it may not matter if those teams in the 804 & 757 continue to do a better job of recruiting, right?

Sorry but you’re the only retard, wtf are you talking about. Go back and read, there is no amount of coaching to overcome the lack of talent and to not acknowledge the talent level CVHS had during their heyday was truly spectacular and an outlier is just asinine. Sure coach Shields may get then to a 3rd playoff game but that’s about the extent of it. Kids are not choosing WF over CVHS, there’s no movement of kids freely switching between those schools. Kids in this area go to the schools they are zoned for. FCPS is unlike PWCO or LCPS or the 804,757 areas. Get your head out your ass and step away from the keyboard.

If you want to have adult discussions about High school football, VA Preps is about the only sight to do so. But, no one in Northern VA has seemed to pay attention to it. Their 4A threads are 1000 Times better than anything on FFU.

Seriously,10 kids playing at the next level and they couldn’t win not 1 playoff game? What gives? That’s more than any other school in 6A. More than several schools combined. WF, CHS, MHS and CVHS don’t have 10 combined. That’s almost an entire district.

Let’s get serious, for a moment. Centreville wasn’t gonna hire an Arab as their football coach. Hell, South Lakes wouldn’t even do it. South Lakes hired a guy from West Po that is terrible, we running clocked them.

The coaching at Braddock is pretty bad if they cant win at least 1 playoff game with that many kids playing at the next level. Looks like they hired some of Poythress's old staff for this year, hopefully that will help.

Coach Shields will be the difference maker to shake up the Concord district. He knows everything about WF and how to attack them offensively and defensively. Finally a coach that knows what he is doing on defense to take away the other teams strenth. He will get us over the jump that is Madison. If we don’t make it to Dec. I will be very surprised. We have the best talent in the region, all of 6A, bunch of athletic, hungry seniors. We will have an offense that will keep defenses guessing and won’t be so one dimensional.

No one said Haddock sucked, most of the recent shortcomings have been the fault of the DC at CVHS. Never could have kids in right place to make plays. Last DC that they had thatwas wirth anything was during their state title games run. He left and then next one Haddock dismisses him mid-season. Then they promoted guy from freshman squad and CVHS defense has never been the same since. Only scheme he had was blitz. We now have a coach that is meticulous in breaking game film down. Look what he did with far less talent the past few years at WF. Shields will also bring discipline to the team. No stupid holding penalties away from the play to call back TD runs, sorry Bulldoggies but refs won’t bail you out this year like they did past 2 seasons against us.

With Shields, I’ll say the same thing I said about Doc at LB. Give him a 2-3 year period to get to know the kids and work with them. This is about success on the field at the HS level. (Don’t start LB people) I think Shields will be successful. Just got hired and has 5 months to start working. I think he will be more successful than Doc has been at LB. We’ll see what’s up with Westfield too.

Sure. 48-11 the last two games. A couple holding calls away from winning both? I don't think so.

That being said, I agree Shields is going to have a big impact at Centreville. He's as good as it gets and even if the Wildcats had a great DC he'd still be an upgrade. Should be fun.

Go back 2 seasons ago, Wildcats strike first with what should’ve been a long TD pass from Egbers to Kanu for 60yds but called back for a phantom holding penalty. Instead called back. Def changes completion of that Gane.

This past season opening drive, CVHS rips off 90yd TD Run but again called back for a bs holding call on the backside of the play. Again directly impacts the outcome of the game.

Shields is 2x the coach Doc ever will be. Cats taking down Bulldogs and Warhawks!

In 2 years, Doc has brought nothing to Lake Braddock, except the kids supposedly behave better now, on the field nothing. In fact they have gone down hill since, witness SB 70-6, One and done in the playoffs with a loaded team. He may have been the right choice at the time, given the LB circumstances, but, honestly, if he isn't more competitive against the better teams and one and done this year in the playoffs, he needs to go.

Shields is an excellent DC, so at least that's something for Centreville.
I think he will do well, Centreville always has athletes and numbers, so I look for them to make a run at Westfield.

At the end of the day, give him a year or 2 to settle in and see where the program is at. That will tell you if he was the right hire.

Shields is surely a very good coach and CV should expect to see an uptick in their already solid program as a result of his hiring, but don't go too far out on that limb that they are going to trounce everyone just yet.....

What you are really trying to say:

PWCO RECRUITING > LOCO RECRUITING > FFXCO RECRUITING

PWCO has more players in college football programs than LOCO & FXCO combined and also the NFL.

That comment shows your ignorance. Putting players in college is great for those kids, but a team with depth and/or quality players, some who may go on to play in college (mostly at the lower levels) will handily beat an average team with a handful of FBS players almost every time.

THAT is why FFX and LC is generally much better football than PWC.

More like how you ended it. Cheap shot the QB, breaking his leg. Coach told his team to knock Kim out of the game. Any still barely won, with WF coming up 5 yards short as the clock expired with Simmons calling on of his shittiest series of his career in that final drive.

Nobody fears your thug asses.

Instead of “thug” why not write what you really want to say. Coach never once told us to injure your qb. It was an freak accident during the course of the game. If you really want to blame anyone you should blame the oline, it look like a jailbreak on that play. We still would’ve won even if he hadn’t gotten injured.

Not a chance. Westfield +14 if Kim plays the entire game. And yeah, it was an accident. Who in their right mind thinks you can intentionally break someone's leg on a tackle.

Don't get too big of a head. Look at what happened to Woodbridge after their big season and stay humble. Or perhaps GET humble.

bullshit!!!! Per usual, your thug parents were sitting in the home field bleachers, mouthing off like always. And they were chirping about how coach said they were gonna knock the QB out of the game. That fat ass punk stayed on Kim long after the whistle blew.

You almost lost AFTER you knocked Kim out of the game. You probably would have lost anyway if Shields hadn't come in and turned the ball over twice. And Simmons deciding to go with the Asante once they drove down to the 5 instead of sticking with Morin and letting him improvise on the final play.

We all saw what Freedom was about when you ran into another thug team the next week and got your asses absolutely handed to you. Doubtful that Westfield loses to Manchester either if Kim is healthy but it certainly wouldn't have been embarrassed like your feckless Eagles were.

hey asshole, you're the dick who started mouthing off about fearing you and talking smack. you get back what you throw out douchebag.

I'm not the same poster who is using racial slurs. Your shitty attitude and behavior isn't because you're school is almost all black and brown. This is partly true. Shields is a player coach. They'll like playing for him. He was picked by the boosters, so they're already happy with him. But C'ville just doesn't have the parts to make a run at it. It will take Jon a couple of years to get his system (basically the WF system) in place. Not this year. Probably not next year either. But look out in 2021.

Ha, highly doubtful (2021). Best chance to do anything is this and next year after that they have no talent or size and definitely no Qb coming up to run the WF system. Boosters better finds rwcruit.

Doesn’t matter. Big shake up in Concorde this year
1. Warhawks- will get over hump that is WF
2. Wildcats- Shields will be the difference in solving WF puzzle
3. Chargers- Curry has improved every year and has given WF trouble.
4. Bulldogs- oh how the night have fallen. Lost tons of talent & 2 top coaches who are going cross town with all of their secrets about WF & whi will be under center for them? Not the JV kid cuz he’s cross town rival now.
5. Cougars- will they at least avg a TD per game?

Thanks for your useless rankings but your reply was non-responsive. And there are at least 3 WF coaches that went to Centreville. That I know of. Since Kim is looking good to play this fall I'd say your analysis is premature. They have a chance to win every game if he's healthy.

Talk about premature, are you his dr/physical therapist? Also who knows if he wants to come back and his parents would let him come back and even if he did, who knows if he’ll be anywhere close to being the same player before that gruesome injury. I wouldn’t blame him for hanging up the cleats, my kid I’d advise him to move on. Shields and Blair left, who’s the 3rd?

Personally, I think Kim will be back. From what I have learned he should be physically able to play if he wants to, and I also think he wants to play college ball so taking off his senior year is not advisable. As for the DC, I have been told that it will probably be Bendorf.

Shouldn't be hard for WF to find a DC amongst their 10 former Head Coaches on Staff.

Possibly the greatest Staff in the State (Doc/LB) will send over one of their Lackeys to do the Job.

WF QB is on a Whirlwind college Tour and he's not playing a Tuba, So yes, he will be Back and Playing Football.

Look for Haddock and Pothyrees to resurface together at Briarwoods for no other reason than to Poach all of Mickey's Transfers.

Noah's mom has already decided on Duke. That's well-known at WF.

You have the wrong Noah, he’s not that type of Asian.

No one cares about 5A football from Loudoun. Inferior product. It’s like buying knock off designer brand made in China.

Not being a homer but I like Madison’s chances to knock off WF and win the Concorde. Coach Counts and staff have made some great strides going into this year and their QB has improved a ton.

Ya know how you KNOW you are the BEST? When everyone points to you as the team they need to beat to be considered the best. Yep, that's how you know.

Get in line like everyone else.

Separate guy then the last, but how can you not think SB is the best. Slaughtered Madison and Lake Braddock, Westfield won't play them anymore. They don't lose till states (although they lose there like clockwork). Tusky and SB would run 6A. Loco>

And WF does it without recruiting, stealing & poaching players unlike SB, Tusky and BR does.

pretty simple really. in the eight years that simmons has been hc at westfield they have won more games than any other vhsl school in virginia. in any class. couple that with 3 rings and it is not even debatable.

This is the year of the Bruins!! Everyone in the region knows it

Doc and staff have been working the boys hard in the off season and are ready to go. Spring practices and 7 on 7 games are going really well.

We have added some new coaches to an already "best in the state" staff, so I think everyone knows they better be ready if LB is on their schedule. They already have a few boys that have been offered football scholarships and the season hasn't even started. Great job coaching staff!

This is a team of brothers who are being significant and respectful on and off the field. Jump on the Bruin train as it will be rolling along before you know it.

Jump on or get rolled over!

Chantilly’s class of 2020 is very talented but Coach Curry is not open to change with some players especially their QB. They don’t have a lot of talent with their underclassmen though besides a few players. Expect them to be pretty good this season but return to their losing next season.

Tyler O’Reilly is probably the best Qb in Concorde this coming year. He was killing WF last season. He just needed a little more support. Chargers taking 2nd in District this year.

Didn't the Wildcats run the clock on Tilly?

You do realize that Noah Kim is in the conference right? Anyways O’Reilly hardly has any arm strength and from what I saw he is very inconsistent on his accuracy. Chantilly’s offense relies on powerful running behind a strong offensive line. O’Reilly is an average athlete who has some speed but has no elusiveness and isn’t capable of leading the chargers. If chantilly does find success it will be from the tailbacks running ability rather than quarterback play.

That was a matter of bad match up of styles, wing-t gave us trouble but Shields will have WF offense and we can play against that better. Curry has poured a lot into building a contender and we are all in. C’ville lost a lot and add in new HC you have a learning curve I think we can knock them off and WF. We will push Madison for district title this year.

Noah who???? Billy Edwards is the best QB in 6A and he’s only a Jr. look out Bruin train coming through, either jump on or get run over. Best staff and best QB in the state don’t think so, ask Recruit Nova. He has all the top schools after him. Bet he joins his brother down at Bama. Roll tide!

I know this is outside of the Fxco but PwCO has major offers not interest, LSU has landed LB from Woodbridge & PSU has their OL from Woodbridge, Stonewall has 2 underclassmen with offers from Michigan, OSU and dozens more. Talent is def on our side.
