I heard Henderson was in the running. Seems like a better choice than some of those names; West Po was giving up points like it was their job.

That’s hilarious. I guess nobody on that hiring committee saw West Po play.

A little surprising if true. He’s interviewed for 6A jobs each of the last several offseasons and appears to be as, if not more qualified than the guys who ended up getting the job (ahem Oakton). Either he’s a terrible interview or everyone is afraid to give a minority coach an opportunity. Are there any minority coaches doing well in Fairfax County, at any level, that he could point to as an example?

I think Oakton has offered him their position, and he turned it down. Also have heard that he is a great interview.

More likely its the Woodson DC who got the SL job, why would they hire the WP DC?

Melvin Morgan is new HC at Oakton. Comes over from Woodson coaching staff. Was previously at Braddock.

I have no idea about him. Any thoughts?

I’ve been told SL announced they selected the WP DC as their new coach. Can anyone verify?

100% accurate that Jason Hescock, former WestPo DC, is the new HC at South Lakes.

So they hired a shitty coordinator from a bad team over a tenured winning
Head coach in the county? Last time I saw West Po play their entire
Team was huddled up under a tent cause it was cold and raining.

The only way this makes sense is that SL didn’t want a minority coach. Kind of surprising, but this is FCPS where diversity is great, as long as it’s inside the beltway.

If he came from Docs staff, he must be one of the best in the state!

Well there you go, Aziz doesn't want to put the work into building a program, he wants and turnkey program. Oakton could be a very good program, it just will take time and energy. Its probably the reason he hasn't got a better job then FC, the DSAs can sense that in his interviews.

LB was 0-10 Poythress rolled up his sleeves and turned that around.

Woodson hadn't had a winning season in a decade, Van aker turned that around.

Hayfield hadn't won a district title in a few years, Henderson has now won 3 in row.

Well, before he got there, FC had not won the district or made the playoffs since the 70s. Still doesn’t make any sense why an experienced assistant would get hired over him?

Falls Church was 0-10 before Aziz arrived, and had only one one district championship in the history of the school, and that was in the mid 70’s. He’s wn 3 or 4 in 6 years. FC is a school where most students don’t come from a culture of playing HS sports, so he has to recruit the kids, the convince their parents to let them play. It’s also a relatively poor school, so he has to do a lot of fund raising just to provide basics for the kids.

So I promise you he’s not afraid of a little work. He passed on the Oakton job last year because his wife was expecting their first child, and he knew he wouldn’t be able to put in the time required to rebuild for a year, and didn’t feel that was fair to the Oakton kids.

Aziz has definitely proved himself. It’s hard to sell this pick as anything other than race driven.

FC always has an easy schedule. look at the teams they play, anyone with a winning record they have lost too. Wining district titles at FC, doesn't mean much as the other districts are much better. Look what happens to them in the playoffs, they get blown out!

If Aziz want to move to the next level in the county, he needs to take the jobs like Oakton or Woodson, when they are available and get them back on track. That will earn him much more respect then district titles at FC.

Dude, who gives a shit? Its not like he applied for South County, Westfield or Lake Braddock! We are talking about South Lakes here, in the Liberty Distict not the Concord. Is South Lakes a Top Tier job? Is along the same lines of Oakton or Woodson.

But it sounds like he turned Oakton down again this year. Perfect opportunity and being so close to FC he probably could have kept his staff intact. You can’t turn down jobs (multiple times) then play the race card. It looks like he’s waiting for the turn key job like someone else said. And now there’s a track record of being picked over that will play into every interview he goes on moving forward. Is he stuck at FC?!

I actually talked to Aziz about this, he only applied for Oakton the first time, and was really excited about the job. His wife had some type of complication after giving birth and it required him to take some leave, and not start right away at Oakton like he wanted to. Wouldn't have been fair to the Oakton kids.

Loudoun County Teams would blow out most of the Fairfax teams, so whats your point?

GTFO. Without the blatant cheating, recruiting players, your 3 decent schools would be shit. Play with kids in your own boundary and SB, BR & Tusky would be 7-3 at best playing in FCPS. And you all still can’t win the big game and. It matters most.

Oakton will probably open up again. SoCo will be open soon, maybe next year. Probably Hayfield also, as Henderson tires of Route 1 antics and his LB QB graduates. Falls Church will open up if Aziz can find anything else. He obviously wants out.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Chantilly vacant again, and South Lakes open up after they realize their new coach is an incompetent jerk.

If SoCo job were to open I think it would attract several current head coaches. I could see some of the Westfield assistants put their name in also. SoCo has loads of talent, but they are consistently inconsistent.

I don’t care if they do have a weak schedule, an assistant from a bad team shouldn’t get a job over a tenured head and successful head coach. What was SL thinking?

In next year or 2 can easily see Haddock and Simmons stepping down, for 2 completely opposite reasons. CVHS boosters and asst coaches are wearing thin of their HC.

Simmons, can’t go anywhere but down so may as well step aside and let a younger guy rebuild, cuz this will be the year finally the might Bulldogs regress back to everyone else. This was a senior heavy team and the jr’s were less than impressive, other than Qb & who knows if he’ll be the same physically or mentally.

Oakton: Seems like they made a good choice, considering they probably didn't get many qualified/quality applicants. The guy has coached some really good defenses for Woodson and LB when he was there.

South Lakes: I am not sure what they were thinking here. They picked an assistant with no HC experience and not a very good track record as a DC. I would think they had more quality applicants to chose from.

Time will tell for both, I suspect both teams will struggle this year.

Doc and the staff has the team fired up for this season, this will be "The Year of the Bruins"

Toughness - Discipline - Significance - Best staff in the State

They have a new schedule starting this year and they are returning some very good players. I hope everyone jumps on the Bruin train to start, if not watch out, the train will be rolling you over.

They had quite a few boys from last years team who will be playing college football, thanks to this wonderful staff.

Go Bruins!

Going to be interesting to see how Morgan does at Oakton. He is obviously a great DC, can he make the transfer. How will Woodson do without him? They lost that great Sr class and their DC. Going to be interesting.

Waiting for Aziz to file some kind of complaint. Probably have a good case. Maybe he can move to Clifton next to Poythress.

0-10 if he’s lucky and he has McLean or Langley he may win one of those games but the outgoing HC (with his stupid looking haircut) did scorched earth policy on his way out and will be a long road to recovery.

A few things will help the new coach at Oakton succeed.
1. getting the players to come out and buy in
2. coaching staff, its crucial he gets the right people to support him
3. patience from the alumni, boosters and admin, it may take some time to rebuild

Hard to say how well he will do at Oakton, Defense wins games, but an exciting offense may get more players out and support from the fans.

Too bad they had neither, 483pts allowed last season, total could’ve easily been higher if not for a running clock in the 2nd half and most coaches showing mercy by putting in freshman team in the 4th qtrs. 42pts scores all season, again bulk of those were scored in the 4th qtr against freshman defenses. Langley & Chantilly could’ve posted shut outs against them if the coaches wanted to. Historically bad bad team, probably one of the worst I have ever seen, glad my kid won’t be there next season.

Oakton obviously had the wrong coaching staff last year and that lead to the horrible season.

With the right coaching staff and getting the players to buy in and trust the coaches, this program could get turned around within 2 years. It will take a huge effort on the part of the players, coaches, community and administration.

1st year: Re-building starts, Be competitive and win a couple games (Langley, McLean are winnable) it will be hard work, but it will pay off

2nd year: Players start to buy in, Continue to be competitive. win a few games, maybe 3-4 wins

3rd year: Players have bought in and things will start to turn around maybe 5-5 6-4

SB 60 - CVHS 0 at half time. Gonna be ugly.
SB 42 - MHS 7 at the half, Mickey will bust out his “feels like a loss” speech.
I knew LB (Doc) would drop SB from schedule after the butt whoopin they got last season. C’mon if you’re the best staff & team in the state, shouldn’t have replaced SB with sorry Marshall HS.

I think everyone agrees that Doc and staff has done a terrific job at LB. They really have turned that program around and have been difference makers as well as significant.

This will be Doc's 3rd year with the LB program and what a year they are expecting to have. It has also been mentioned that they have the team to win it all this year. Stay tuned, football season will be on us before we know it.
I think this is the year that everyone will be jumping on the Bruin Bandwagon!

For all the hard work that Doc has put into this program, I think they deserved to be call the best staff in the state

Okay, I am a coach on Doc’s staff. I just stumbled across this website last Monday, and I have to say, it’s frustrating. We at lake braddock do not by any means believe we are the best staff in the state. We don’t think we are the best staff in NOVA even. We think we work hard, we love the kids, we love the community, and we love the sport. To say any staff besides highland springs is the best in the state is wrong because they’ve won the most in a row. Westfield has a fantastic staff and we look forward to competing against them again. We did not choose to drop stone bridge. That was set by our previous dsa. I love football, and I love winning. My goal is to bring a ring to braddock. However, like I said earlier, the hype is silly, and the hatred is silly. The most important thing is that we care deeply about the community and the players. Ultimately, football is a game that teaches important life values, and that to me is THE most important thing.

You know how you know you are the BEST (other than 55-4 the last 4 years)? When everyone thinks YOU are the team they need to beat to prove THEY are the BEST. Yep, that's a clue.

Yea, I agree! You are not even the best staff in your district!
All the talent you had last year and couldn't win a playoff game, that's on the coaching staff
Maybe if you focused on coaching instead of social media, you might have better results

Sounds like the LB football coaches are starting to feel the pressure of trying to keep a high profile program from declining under their watch.

Most people said from the start, Doc was not the right person for the LB job and it looks like they were right.

With all the talent they have year after year, this program should be making a deep run in the playoffs every year, under Doc 1 playoff win in 2 years.

I understand he is a nice guy and liked by fellow teachers, but he was hired to coach football, so far the results are not what is expected.

Yep and Doc leaves WTW and they make a deep run in playoffs and should’ve upset the team that went to states, they were 1 play away from state semis.

In all fairness Doc did beat WTW this year. He’s just gotten tough draws in the postseason. Football coaches in FFX county are no longer hired to win games. They are hired to be positive role models and attempt to compete. The coaches have learned that being nice to everyone will keep you employed a lot longer than winning and making enemies.

Tough draws???? That's exactly the problem with LB under Doc, excuses for everything! How about this, they should have won more games and been the top seed, they had the talent!

So what you are saying is Doc was hired to be a positive roll model and is just trying to compete? I wonder if the players know that? Maybe that's why they dont make it very far in the playoffs.

Robinson has been up and down recently. Hard to say it’s a great stuff. Just ran through their records the past few years and they have had more quality wins than I expected.
This staff has beaten:
Lake Braddock
Centreville
Chantilly (before they were bad)
Oakton (before they were bad)
Stone Bridge
Broad Run
Hylton
Hayfield
Madison
Also played Westfield and South County to a couple very close losses.

I wouldn’t say a great staff, but hard to say they are below average.

I just heard Coach Haddock has retired from Centreville football. Who’s going to replace him?

The Wildcat boosters/parents are the absolute worst! The man wins and makes playoffs and it’s not good enough cuz they don’t win States every year, well maybe your little brats just aren’t as good as you think. Who knows if the next guy is even half as good, which would be poetic if he bombs and Hasdocks oysters are clamoring for him and the “good old days” you know what you wouldn’t deserve them.

Henderson to Centerville. Aziz to Hayfield. Some Freshman coach to Falls Church.

Book it.

As I look at it, this past season Robinson didnt beat any quality opponents, losing to WTW (2 times) LB, SC, Hay. They were weak this past season.
Unless the coach decides to get with the times, they will once again be mediocre at best. At some point they need to think outside the box a bit.

You conveniently forgot about a 7-3 playoff Hylton team that Robinson best soundly. From the stands it appeared Robinson’s style was the main reason they were able to compete with Hylton. It looked like HS kids vs college players.

Robinson’s style allows them to win and be competitive against teams with bad and/or undisciplined athletes. They don’t develop ball players, cannot teach any kind pass defending, and have no real desire to get better. If it were still the 1970’s they might be ok. But it’s not, and they won’t.

Completely wrong. WF asst coach has applied for the job and more than 99.9% sure they will pick him. Saw the application on DSA’s desk.

Totally agree, apparently head of boosters organized bunch of parents to write DSA and complain about Haddock. Haddock should go to another school like South County or Lake Braddock and then beat the brakes off them

Applications flowing into DSA office at Centreville and calls being made to see who wants the HC job. Next to WF or SB, should be a job that is coveted by all. Wonder how quickly they will fill it?

DC from WF is the scoop. He has only been DC for a year or two which means we were good before him. He is mad cuz son is a QB behind Noah.Scared to battle. That means any QB at Cville just got shitted on. Why didn't he try for Oakton or SL? Cause he is friends with Cv Activities Director. Inside job bro...

Will Noah even be cleared to play by Aug? Does suck for the Wildcats Qb’s that are already there and will have to deal with daddy-ball, thought that shit applied to youthball and over with once you got to hs.

I am hearing several Westfield assistants will be applying to this one. I am sure a few Loudon county as well as quite a few Fairfax county head coaches will as well.

They should have a very good pool of applicants for this one. I am guessing that coach Haddock will stay for the remainder of the year, then join the Westfield staff.

Correct, I did forget that Robinson did beat Hylton, a team that only beat one winning team all season, sorry.

Rumor is that a long time coach currently in Loudoun (not at SB) will throw his name in the hat. He has won state championship before. Should be a very viable candidate.

You're talking about the old Briar Woods coach Pierce. His act dwindled after the early years and the program bottomed out. He quit using the leave of absence excuse once he knew BW was not going to return.Anyway, he applied for the new school out here and was turned away. He can coach okay, but if you thought Haddock was a tyrant, Pierce is 50 fold worse.

I disagree, I think Centreville will go young. Who would be a young coach that Centreville could hire?

Not Skinner, not Pearce and not a younger inexperienced coach either.

That's probably not a ridiculous speculation. It is a long shot but if he wants to say involved in coaching without a 24/7 schedule he would be a welcome addition. It could work out well.

The DC at WF was The OC at WF prior to Both Everitt and Giancola leaving, he was also the QB Coach that pulled young Noah up as a Freshmen, something that rarely Happens at WF. I assure you if anyone knows the Talent at QB and knows his own kids ability, it's the DC @ WF. The natural Progression would have his Son taking over the Reigns his Senior Year after Noah has moved on to Play Saturday's. Stop with the personal insults Troll.

Can’t blame WF DC wanting to go to CVHS so his son can be a 2yr starter. I think he will breath some new life into the program over there. WF better watch out, finally a scheme to match their talent level. Expect them to have a rocky start but by mid-Oct they will be hitting their stride.

The reason why WF DV is attractive to CVHS is that he would bring 3-4 WF coach’s with him
