Wawa is coming! Wawa is coming! (to Vienna)

What's the hottest development in NoVA? Clearly, the answer is Vienna.

Instead of mattress stores, we are getting local and national businesses.

Another FU post is covering the convergence of a clean car with a full stomach: the supersized combo of Flagship Car Wash and Chik-fil-a.

Now, the gates of heaven (or hell, depending upon your perspective) are opening even wider: Wawa is coming to Vienna!

EXCLUSIVE: Wawa Coming to Vienna
by TysonsReporter.com November 28, 2018 at 2:45 pm

Wawa is working to open a new store at the busy corner of Maple Ave and Park Street in Vienna, TysonsReporter.com has learned.

The store will replace a shuttered gas station at the corner and an adjacent property that houses two well-liked businesses: a tailor shop and the Arthur Christine salon.

The Vienna Town Council approved the redevelopment of the properties into a new gas station and 2,500 square foot convenience store — the identity of the store operator was not revealed — by a 5-2 vote in May. The development includes 11 parking spaces, wider sidewalks and the placement of utility lines underground, the Sun Gazette reported.

In response to an inquiry from Tysons Reporter, Wawa confirmed that it was working to open a new store at the location, though no opening timeframe has been set.

“We are pursuing this site in Vienna,” said Wawa Public Relations Manager Lori Bruce. “While it’s too soon in the land development phase to confirm a timeline for construction, we can say that we are excited to have the opportunity to bring Wawa to this community.”

Who cares?

That gas station sat abandoned for what, 10 or 15 years? And after all this time what does it become? Another gas station. (Although one with hoagies, pretzels and coffee).

We need Trump to build along the Mason-Dixon line to keep this Philly shit out of good ol' Virginny.

The Sandwich Shop is just down the street. So are a dozen other established places. Wawa would have to get in line for the chance to fight for its life.

Falls Church needs all the help it can get. It's already the armpit of the area, and of course it's declining still. One touted Falls Church project after another has fallen woefully short of original expectations over the years. There's every reason to expect that this one will turn sour as well. Just sit back and watch it happen.

This Wawa is a guaranteed winner.

There's one along to the road to the Air and Space museum near Rt. 28.

I'm sure Wawa paid a hefty price for the location when compared to some of their other sites. The prices will be a bit higher to reflect that.

The old Shell station just across Park Street was sucked up by the church pretty quickly. Probably not the best place for another gas station, but maybe the exotic Wawa brand will be able to carry the day, After all these years, people will likely give them a shot.

I heard they wanted like $20 million for the abandoned gas station. Stupid money, but someone like Wawa may want to pony up something close to get another location in the area.

The problem between Wawa and the Chic Fil A traffic on 123/Maple just got a whole lot worse.

The story about Wawa moving to Maple & Park in Vienna is Fake News.

Wawa will probably end up somewhere in the area but not there.

A different company owns this land and they already operate other filling stations in Northern Virginia.

You will likely see a filling station with convenience shop located on the property where the white house sits behind the old BP station today.

Falls Church is a dump. As much as a chicken place would make it a whole new world. Pretty sorry when both Burger King and Long John Silver’s decide to pull up stakes. I heard that it used to be pretty nice fifty years ago. Something must have gone really wrong.

So they are going to have to excavate and put in new underground fuel storage tanks on one lot, and dig up and remove fuel storage tanks on an adjacent lot when it is eventually developed? That makes sense.

Pretty pricey for a dump which means it's likely out of your price range and this is just butthurt envy speaking.

It's no wonder a fat, out of shape boob would bemoan the loss of fast food establishments. Most rational people view it as an upgrade.

I have not noticed it, but evidently a Ben and Jerry's opened in the Vienna Shopping Center. Opening soon in the same shopping center will be Don Pollo, a Peruvian Charbroiled chicken place. It is going to be located right next to a dry cleaning business. Hope they have excellent ventilation or someone's suites are going to smell like chicken!!!

Actually in the same midtown mix as Panera and Rose Kabob. But did you notice the B&J in Fairfax Corner? Reston Town Center? Dulles Town Center? Maybe you should get out of the house more.

Ya Chuck, I'm quite sure I said what I meant. The name of the shopping center where Panera, Rose Kabob and now the Ben and Jerry's is named "Vienna Shopping Center". Thanks for following up though prick.

It's about time Vienna got a Peruvian chicken joint.

If you asked, you’d find that most people think of the shopping center as being
only that which fronts the parking lot, not the stores to the east that front to Maple Avenue. No big deal of course.

I live in Vienna and avoid all Vienna restaurants like the plague due to the food tax. I will drive out of my way on general principle just to avoid buying take-out or dine in Vienna. I'm clearly not the only one - restaurants go out of business there all the time. I like WaWa - what a shame they chose Vienna instead of a more friendly locale. I might buy gas there (only if they can compete with Costco or at least the Safweway in the Pan Am center), but I won't be buying their sandwiches.

And I don't dine in any of those places, either. But I don't care so much about them because . . . well, I never go to Herndon or Manassas or Alexandria anyway. LOL. Mostly I stick to McLean or the vast stretches of Fairfax County that are not part of any town.

Well, looks like the initial idea that it would go in at the abandoned gas station across from Noodles & Co. were wrong. Although the intersection of Nutely and Rt.123 is going to be a mess with a Wawa there.

https://www.tysonsreporter.com/2019/02/01/new-vienna-wawa-location-and-designs-revealed/

After some uncertainty about when or where the new Wawa in Vienna would arrive, plans have finally been submitted to Vienna’s Board of Architectural Review.

The new plans show the new Wawa will be located at 465 Maple Ave W.

The Wawa will be constructed on a property that was formerly a Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage location and has been vacant for over a year. The location is across the street from the controversial mixed-use development approved in October at the Vienna Wolf Trap Hotel.

The Board will review the plans at today’s (Friday) work session, which started at 8 a.m.

The new Vienna location is part of a regional expansion for Wawa, which has previously said that it plans to add 30-50 stores in the Washington, D.C. area.
