The team sucks and isn't getting better but you'd never know it from their fans, happy win or lose with their gang of high character guys.

Oh boy, Rizzo, he can do no wrong, payroll second to the Red Sox but the team stinks. He used to make good trades once upon a time. Now he gives max contracts to injury prone bums.

Typical dumb ass Nats fan, clueless. Hey look Jayson Werth has a beard. I love that Teddy. Doolittle"s wife is woke as actual fuck.

The Nats paid the tax, only the Nats and Red Sox paid, one won the World Series, the other is managed by Rizzo.

It was a good time at National Harbor and even better at the Convention Center. Fan Appreciation Days at Nats Park have left something to be desired though, so I’m a little leery going in.

Of course it will rain, symbolic of the whole franchise since Mark took over for his Dad.

All sorts of rumors about who the team will sign, prepare to be underwhelmed. No one in their right mind would sign long term with a team that swaps the manager every other year.

Bullpen Carl is really Peter Angelos. You would have thought that he'd have better things to do than post on this forum. Obviously Camillo's general attire has nothing better to do during the off season.

This is not the type of event to which I would usually go, but GF likes it, so I take her. It is not a hard choice. What would you rather do?

Take wife/GF to the dress shop? I would not, although at least the dress shop has a pretty good Guy Chair for napping.

Take wife/GF to the shoe store? I decidedly would not. You can at least sit at the shoe store, but those seats are too uncomfortable for taking a nap.

Take wife/Gf to the accessories boutique? .....not only "no", not only "HELL no", not only "a thousand times no", but "A THOUSAND TIMES HELL FUCKING NO!" I am CONVINCED that whoever invented the accessories boutique did it for the sole purpose of torturing the American heterosexual male. The aisles are narrow. There is no place to sit. Merchandise is jammed into every little bit of space. People are everywhere. I REFUSE to go to the accessories boutique. I drop her there, find something else to do and she can call me when she wants me to fetch her.

OR

Would you rather be at a baseball event, even if it IS December?

The choice is simple. Baseball wins every time; all day; every day; have a nice day.

This raises a good point, these things are for chicks, no dude wants to stand in line to get a baseball autograph, what are you going to do with Ryan Zimmerman on a ball? Play with it at night and dream you could be in the clubhouse with him?

See! This is the whole problem with the Nats fan base, these women get overly attached to the players and pressure the team to keep guys who should have been discarded years ago.

Mine were, but they weren't Beanpotters. The point of course is that there is nothing new or unusual about Nats fans' attachment to their favorite local players, nor about management's willingness or unwillingness to trade them or (these days) to see them walk into free agency.

That's bullshit and you know it, take any 500 team and the fan base is calling for everyone's head, only the Nats fans fall in love with intangibles.

No chance the Nats win more than 75 games next year. They'll fire the manager. The East is passing Rizzo by, but you wouldn't know it

That's a really stupid comment. It would suggest that you are just some disgruntled Redskins fan lost and wallowing in decades of frustration. .

Your silly pretensions only further label you as a baseball dope. At this point, we've spent little money ahile adding two catchers and two talented back-end bullpen guys. You can't even guess as to what the Nat's lineup will look like on Opening Day, much less on Augsut 1, but you're still ready to make dumb-ass predictions. Again. really stupid.

I think we're going to brave the rain and do dinner over on Barracks Row after the Nats Park festivities today. Might cancel eats if it's too terrible out there and try it again on Sunday. We'll see.

Two catchers who will both regress. I'd say don't believe the hype but Nats fans always lap up what Rizzo dishes put.

Matt Wieters (2018-WAS) .238 - 8 - 30

Did you just use BA and RBI to compare player value? For a single season? Holy shit you're a dope. I can cherry pick too, take a look at walk to K ratio.

I wouldn't want Wieters back and Gomes is an upgrade but it's hilarious watching the fan base fool themselves into thinking that Rizzo has made some great leap forward.

The Caps? You think that the Nats are on the level of the Caps? Over and over you keep proving my point, this fan base is delusional. They think that the Nats are a player or two away from beating the Red Sox in seven games.

Weather was not so bad, so had a nice dinner at Belga Cafe. Cheese croquettes and the veal meatloaf. Can’t order the mussels EVERY time we go there!

Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle were a riot today playing the Newlywed game against Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick. Hoping for more such revelry on Sunday. Wife picked up an autographed Scherzer All Star jersey. She usually wears the autographed Zimmy 2008 uni though. Not sure if Max will be able to make inroads.

The Caps were not a great team at the start pf last season, nor did they have a great year. They did win the Stanley Cup however, even with all the 'usual voices' the whole time promising that they would be 'choking' any minute now.

For the Nats so far this off-season, Rizzo has made the team stronger at two key positions while costing the club very little. Can't really go wrong that way. We'll have to see how the rest of the winter goes, and if Davey Martinez learned anything from his misadventures of the 2018 season. Huff-and-puff from people without insight into the game won't affect either one of those however.

Wake up, sleepyhead. It's entirely possible that the Nats will be on a roll in the 2019 playoffs while the Red Sox are eliminated early by a spunky (and Bryce Harper-led) band of Oakland Athletics. That's just baseball.

Marginally better at catcher, unless the new guys regress back to their 2015-2016 level of play, in which case we are no better off. The pen was touted as being fixed last year with the law firm. Martinez will be back to hiding in his office by May. This team needs a complete overhaul from the top down.

Meanwhile, it was another fun day at the ballpark. A little too much Bob Carpenter for my liking today, but good to see Trevor Rosenthal out there. He could emerge to share the Cy Young with Doolittle. Start the chant — Doo-Ro! Doo-Ro! And with Adam Eaton soon to be traded for a third starter, Michael A should be a lock for an All Star berth.

Some more than others, and of course, you have to know them somehow first. That's where street-grade simpleton douchebags like you come up so far short. Others that score well include Erica May-Scherzee, whom we know through her work with the Humane Rescue Alliance.

Those are two good calls. Definite potential in those two for breakout campaigns.
We’ll know more after the Winter Meetings though. We’ll need to outfox some bigger money ballclubs next week.

My interest level in meeting athletes wives is less than zero, Maybe I'd like to bang them while their husband is on the road.

Sorry, Bob, I have no desire to indulge your gay fantasies for a single nanosecond, let alone five minutes. Maybe you can ask one of your other make believe friends to spend five minutes with you. Tooth Fairy perhaps?

Doolittle and Rosenthal sharing a Cy Young would be awesome, I can see either one of them winning it outright, having them split would be the greatest thing ever. Hillary Clinton will blow her husband before Taylor makes All Star.

Michael A Taylor is the embodiment of a plus-plus defender. Great range, runs great routes, has a very strong and accurate arm. He's in Willie Mays/Andruw Jones territory on defense. Not a comp in power, but he runs the bases about as well as those guys too. We also know that he CAN hit, but he needs consistent reps to do consistent work. If he can somehow improve his pitch recognition and cut down on the strikeouts, he'll become a force at the plate. The Nats are very high on him, but they also need a starting pitcher or two, so either Taylor or Adam Eaton may have to be used as trade bait. It would be tough to give up either one, as there's no guaranty that either Soto or Robles (much less both) will be earning everyday AB's this year, but you have to give up something to get something, and we fo need at least one more top-flight pitcher.

Rizzo stinks and the Nats stink. Win a playoff series, then maybe we can talk.

Stupid shits is plural and asshole is singular, I'm confused as to the intended audience. In any case I'm here for the Mike Taylor discussion, I'd love to see him in the All Star Game but even if he struggles I'd rather lose with Taylor than win with some hired gun.

I hope they keep both Taylor and Eaton. The kids are not for certain ready for the pressure or grind of being everyday MLB players. And maybe we should see what we have in a healthy Joe Ross and the bulked-up Erick Fedde before we go pulling any trade triggers. We would likely get more for either Taylor (free agent in 2021) or Eaton (free agent in 2022) at the trade deadline in any case if it turned out that reinforcements were needed.

As above, Rizzo has actually been awfully good at this, so if Davey Martinez can learn how not to be an albatross, the team should be in good shape this year by one means or another.

They've given out over 100 Cy Young awards. Only nine have been given to relief pitchers.

Michael A an All Star? He might be defensively talented, but he can't hit. At all.

If Trevor Rosenthal, Patrick Corbin, Kurt Suzuki, and Yan Gomes all match their 2016 production the Nats have just added -1.3 WAR.

This is why you are not -- and never will be -- a credible source re anything MLB. As was noted above, that's two bigger budget teams that had to be and now have been outfoxed in order to land Corbin.

Red, you might be dumber than Bob, it's already been established in this conversation that the Nats and Red Sox were the only two teams to pay the tax this year, meaning that there is only one team with a higher budget. Additionally, is over paying a guy really out foxing the competition? You must be a Fed. Red the Fed.

Go back to your mindless video-gaming. And make a mental note to check and see whether the luxury tax is based on 1) AAV plus benefits, or 2) payroll.

While Option #1 above is not a perfect answer, it is a l-o-n-g way ahead of the bumbling Option #2. For those who might like a deeper look into the workings of the Competitive Balance Tax in general and/or how it affects the Nats in particular, the following article by Chelsea Janes will offer some useful and much needed insight...

Jeez, you delusionals are a bumble of confusion, the Nats and Red Sox paid the tax, the Red Sox paid more but got a WS out of the deal. The Nats had the second highest paid team and not even a wild card game to show for it. AAV? You guys are thinking too hard.

Now go study up on regression, the buzz word of the 2019 Nats.

Wow! You're even dumber than I had at first thought. Incontestable materials have been posted showing what a total dumbass you are, and yet your continue to post the same rot and rubbish over and over again. What a loser!

Maybe focus instead on how you're going to replace Kimbrel now that the Mets have snatched Edwin Diaz away. Right through Buckner's legs, baby.

No offense intended, but I'm not sure of the points you are trying to make, I get the insults but the core arguments are not being fully formed and expressed. Nats fans on this thread are in somewhat of a downward spiral, Bob was wrong but at least he could advance the conversation in a logical manner, Red didn't have much of a point other than he was angry. Now I'm left with incoherence. No big deal, I'm still happy to chat.

You're just another ignorant douche with nothing but dumbshit in his head. You don't know jack about the CBT and as the rersult have been left totally humiliated on that front. Meanwhile, the Nats have snatched the brass ring away from NYY and PHI. WAS is the big winner so far this winter, and Rizzo is a long way from done yet.

(I understand that this is probably a different person using the Nats Fan name and that I'm being baited with the reference to the CBT but I'll respond anyway.)

Rizzo got baited. The report out of Philly was that they wouldn't be outbid for Corbin. Think about it, what GM announces that they are going to bid high? The Phillies knew that Rizzo was targeting Corbin and juiced the market. Rizzo was bidding against a straw man.

And it wasn't just the Phillies that the Nats had to outdo. Now the wannabes are left to battle it out between themselves for Dallas Keuchel and J.A. Happ. Sometimes you can swoop in at the last minute and steal yourself a bargain. Sometimes you can swoop in at the first minute and steal yourself a bargain. The latter is what Mike Rizzo just did.

No more leather pants. Janes was showing cleavage at Winterfest and she's gone too. The Nats Pack is all guys. I think that the Nats are eliminating all womens from the organization.
