2017 McLean Murder Suicide Turns Out to Have Been Just Murder

On the night of July 14, 2017, 63-year-old Pamela Denise Hansen Hargan and her 23-year-old daughter Helen Lorena Hargen were found shot to death in Pamela's home at 6708 Dean Drive in McLean. Fairfax County Police originally reported the deaths of the 2 women as a murder-suicide, with Helen shooting her mother, then herself.

However, the investigation took a strange turn when it came out that the deaths were originally reported by the Helen's boyfriend Carlos, who called from Dallas, Texas to make the report.

It further came out that another of Pamela Hargan's daughters, Megan, had attempted two wire transfers from one of her mother's financial accounts: one on day before and the other the day of the murders.

Megan was arrested this morning at her home in West Virginia and charged with the murders of her mother and sister. The police are holding a press conference this afternoon to discuss the case.

Edit: The boyfriend in Dallas was Helen's, not Megan's.

This case would've taken an average 12yo about 8 hours to solve.

Here's FCPD's official press release:

WOMAN ARRESTED IN 2017 MURDER OF MOM AND SISTER
FCPD Media Relations Bureau
November 9, 2018
McLean Police District – A 35-year-old woman is facing charges in the murder of her mom and sister. On July 14, 2017, 23-year-old Helen Lorena Hargan and her mother, 63-year-old Pamela Denise Hansen Hargan were found dead in a home in the 6700 block of Dean Drive in McLean. They had both been shot. This morning, detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau arrested Megan Hargan near her home in Monongalia County, West Virginia for their murders.

The bodies were discovered by officers, after a 9-1-1 call reporting someone in the home might have been killed. The scene was secured and meticulously processed over several days by our Crime Scene Section. Detectives determined early in the investigation that the scene was staged to appear to be a murder-suicide. Due to the complexity of the evidence, a reconstruction of the crime scene was completed by an independent company. Our investigation and forensic findings led us to Megan Hargan, and our Major Crimes Bureau remained vigilant while pursuing every investigative lead. We interviewed Megan Hargan on July 14th, and then again a few days later. Megan Hargan attempted fraudulent money transfers from her mom’s bank account on the day of the murders, as well as the day before. Megan Hargan was indicted by a multi-jurisdictional grand jury yesterday for two counts of 1st degree murder and two counts of using a firearm in committing a felony.

“This is a tragedy, domestic violence at its worst,” said Major Ed O’Carroll, commander of the Major Crimes Bureau. “Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Helen Hargan and Pamela Hargan. Know that justice always leads to the truth, and today the criminal justice process on this case continues.”

Our detectives are still in West Virginia, as the case remains active. We want to thank our law enforcement partners for their cooperation on this complex case, including the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.

How did they miss the attempted bank wires? That would have been a huge red flag right there.

Sometimes the cops need to hold their cards close to the vest.

I think they were trying to build an air-tight case. Sorry if it took too long for armchair quarterbacks.

Its not like FCPD has that many homicides to deal with.

Daughter was hot, Mom still had a few more runs in her.

Probably a jealousy-ugly duckling sister thing. Plus drug addiction of course.

WTF is that whirl on the top of the daughters head. Looks like you could ride a surf board on it. She could lose a few pounds too from the looks of it

She didn't think the cops would see the wire transfers? What a total dope!
