Also, people are forgetting...at one point, Crystal City was one of the tightest office markets IN THE COUNTRY, because of NAVSEA, NAVAIR and the Patent and Trademark Office, amongst other users.

Annually, that market was running around a 1% vacancy rate for many years through the early 2000's.

And since then, housing stock has gone up all around...

So, if these existing office buildings didn't create a strain on housing back then, when they were effectively 100% leased, why would they now?

There's dedicated HOV-3 lanes for buses on 395 and Metro Station coverage from Huntington to Pentagon, and into DC. Traffic might get somewhat worse but it should be manageable.

Depends on who you are. You can rent a room out of a house in the Fairfax area, utilities included, for $500 to $700 a month, with decent access to public transit. Provided your $60k job provides health care, someone who is single can have a nice life and start saving for the future, so long as you don't go do something dumb like buying a $30k car.

Now a family of four, that's a different story of course.
