I was lookin in the urban dictionary and found this description of Fairfax county. I guess the truth hurts sometimes.

Fairfax county Virginia:
A detestable suburban backwater of America's lame, bland and culturally vacant capital. Filled with characterless subdivisions populated with characterless people and the poor immigrants that serve them, this place is so utterly conventional and uninteresting that it actually makes Westchester, Long Island, and Northern New Jersey look like they aren't cultural wastelands. Fairfax doesn't suck simply because it lacks museums and "culture"--this is to be expected of any suburb. It sucks because the city it borders sucks. That city sucks because it is the center of government, and to be successful in government, one must be as uncontroversial (hence, boring, conventional) as possible. Any individual considering giving birth and raising children should realize that forcing them to grow up in Fairfax will stunt them intellectually, emotionally, and aspirationally, for the rest of their lives.

We do suck. I cant wait to move back to NJ. FFX county showed its true colors recently - Sending rescue workers and cash to Hati while local children are homeless and hungry on the streets of Hybla Valley.

I think it is a fairly accurate analysis. I would add that all the defense contractors with TS clearance also walk on eggshells, adding to the boringness of people around here. I disagree about the effect on kids raised here though.

And I thought Northern California sucked, till I moved here. I am going back home too.

When I first read this post I wanted to disagree but after a minute or two of thought I cannot find fault with what was posted. Having lived here most of my adult life one subdivision is pretty much the same as the others. Some more expensive some less.

No one seems to care about much other than making a living or how high they can climb on the GS schedule and of course how long until they can leave this area.

UR right dd, I got one last kid that graduates from Lake Braddock this spring. I am looking forward to being free of the kids in school routine. I Pray I did not screw my kids up by raising them in the fairfax- it's all about ME -enviroment. I only moved here to get a do-nothing federal job and now realize it was the wrong thing to do. Six more years till full pension kicks in and I have to stay with it now. Hopefully my kids will learn from my mistakes.

The way overbudgeted schools claim everybody moves here because of the wonderful school system, everybody not from here I have spoken to is like you, they moved here for the money.Jack Dale needs a reality check, because it does pretty much suck here.

No, there aren't any museums in Fairfax county. Idiots.

Do we really suck that much? In some respects we do. Too many fucking Yankee carpet baggers move down here and try to change this area to suit what it is like back in NY, NJ, PA, CT, and etc. The transisent military and gov employees that cycle in and out of here do not help matters either. The county governement, and I mean the entire county governemnt, has this aura about them that they are all high and mighty cause "We are Fairfax County."

There are many things to do here in the County that make living here worthwhile. If you do not like living here, leave. It is that simple. Having the county governemnt come down off its high horse would also be a blessing. I am tired of being taxed and taxed and not seeing any type of return on the taxes that we all pay. If it was not for the Federal government being so close, this would still be a rual farming community.

fuck all of you who say fairfax county sucks...as a person who has lived here all of his life, i can personally say i am greatful that i live hear...we have consistently the highest graduation rates, among the top in SAT scores, over gpa's, and educated people in general...the school system is regarded as one of the best in the nation, and seeing as how america is virtually the best in the world, this school system is among the best in the world (and fuck all of you who bring up the asians). Also, we constantly have something or another going on...wether it be sya, church, or any community organization. yes its a suburb, which means it wont have an nfl stadium in its county, nor a national museum, although we do (udvar-hazy air and space muesuem). But this county is always among the top in the average household income, meaning yes we are a bunch of rich kids, but since when is that a bad thing. Yes we will have drug problems...what county doesnt? and those two "murderers"? did you forget to mention that they were psychologically insane, and in a population of 1 million +, is it so unlikely that there will be that odd man out every here and there?

Thanks for taking the time to post on this thread, fuckallhaters. If you have lived in this area all your life you would have no frame of reference as to how bad living in FFX is. It's not about SAT scores or gpa's it's about quality of life and being legit. You will understand someday.

The most boring place I have ever experienced. Tragedy of it is that by any measure, it should be one of the more interesting counties in US, but the post regarding the characteristics of the various types of residents goes a long way to explain why Fairfax County sucks.

Um no we are one of the richest county in the world....chack out our demographics on wikipedia or any other source...that guy is obviously dumb...hahaha

No, we don't. People from elsewhere are just jealous because they know that Fairfax will produce more successful, interesting, and devoted people per capita than their county could ever imagine. They resent the fact that we create a massive amount of wealth (admittedly, much of it through the military-industrial complex) because they aren't the ones creating it. They resent the fact that their lives would be shittier if it weren't for our tax dollars.

I will agree to the notion that the transient military population is a bitch (so much for community). But other than that, I love my neighborhood. People respect themselves, their families, and the neighborhood in which they live. We have one road to our neighborhood, and one sidewalk. We have large yards, modest decks, and healthy houses. I will admit I am from a wealthier neighborhood, but our neighborhood is such because the home-owners are hard-working, intelligent people who have had success in myriad fields.

just recently came to visit family here and I have to agree, the people here are robotic and if you try to be "different" or original they look at you like you are beneath them. everyone is so rude and always on some I'm better than you type shit. anyway, I am glad this is only a visit and I can get up and work anywhere in the world. unfortunate for the zombies stuck in their middle income ffx bs orthe poor ass people stuck working for them. the people who are supposed to be classy and spiritual and going to yoga all day are the worst offenders of all and extremely unfriendly and rude. and I use to think people in la were rude. damn people get off your high horse, this isn't NYC yet. I was born here too and sometimes feel I live here out of lazinesss. Its like ,go to longwood , graduate with a C average and get an easy-gravy government job then pretty much take the rest of your life off and buy a new toyoya every 8 years, then retire for awhile then shit your pants in a nursing home and die.

We grew up here back when it was still a little interesting.
I remember when we would go up to Maryland, there was a feeling of "This sucks".
About 25 years ago, Ffx. started to resemble Md. Now it's worse.
There really isn't anything here.
Of course, there are exceptions...Mount Vernon is an unbelievably interesting and well run museum......Strangely enough, totally privately funded.
The population has really dumbed down and is totally uninteresting.
When was the last time you had to talk to a group of young high tech workers?

I remember attending Ffx county high school after coming from private schools.
It was like repeating 5th and 6th grade. Twice.

Years ago things here were really good. We never had problems finding interesting things to do. Look at the threads when people talk about how it was here in the 70's, 80's. People were really nice. Things seem to be running along well. I was happy (I'm still happy just not as much as before). So what has change things around here? I think you have to look at the transplants. Some have good reasons for moving here. It's when they come here and bring their ways and want to force them on us. This isn't NJ., NY., or where ever they come from. Some of them have this better than you attitude and it's all about them. They move here and then bash about how bad it is here. No one forced them to move here. I think most of them are just miserable people and location isn't going to change that. Just because you couldn't make it where you are from don't come here and force your misery on us.

if you get on the metro and go into dc, you can see the smithsonian and there is always something going on on the mall. And you can hike in the Shenandoah, and good acces to the airports here. Schools are good. Alot of people are asholes because of all the military and high tech assoholes who work on govt contracts. Things would have changed in the debt ceiling had not been lifted, but it'll be business as usual now for awhile since it was lifted, Anyway my basic answer is no it doesn't suck. Other places suck alot worse.
