Does your furnace work?

Winter is closing in quickly. It's time to notice if things aren't going quite right.

It was 64 in the sunroom this morning, so I flipped the heat on. It was 69 in no time.

My Trane was turned on a 6:30 this morning to bring the temp inside my place from 65 to 68 degrees. It took no time at all. Glad I have a Trane.

Hydronic gas boiler based heat is the best :) :) Super efficient. Doesn't blow dust everywhere.

It stinks the first time you turn on the heat.

Furnaces are for faggots. Real men use heat pumps.

Colonial Pipeline may blow up on me, but at least my house is toasty warm.

My last house was all electric, including the heat- bye $700 a month electric bills in winter. Now it's more like $150-180 max (and I run servers and have fishtanks so I am ok with this).

But a gas-fired boiler and circulating baseboard heat has been a great option for the past 70 years. These days you can get endless household hot water from the deal as well.

I guess no stool pushers live north of VA then because a heat pump is woefully inefficient and costly when temperatures get below freezing.

I about guarantee you many if not all parts of your new Trane are poorly made imports (compared to pre-globalism standards).

It's the installation that makes or breaks the unit.

How many years (also consecutive years) of maintenance free trouble free operation can you claim?

Anyhow, Trane might pick the foreign parts but the installation team also picks parts - so it's not necessarily a "Trane" to begin with.

your lying

while such a system does last and is fairly maintenance free: the hot water heater does get regularly replaced no matter which brand

70 years is several times the lifetime of a hot water heater

I just use my kerosene heater all winter. Just coming in and going out is enough ventilation.

Residential hot water is heated by the same boiler that serves the main heating system. Extra elements in this case involve four sets of basic thermostats and pumps. These are easy and cheap to replace when their time eventually comes.

"These days" is not 70 years ago. That was when the first gas-fired boiler was installed. It's been replaced every 30 years since, the last two new ones being at the center of dual-purpose systems.

I have a 3 bd 2 bath near Edison without a basement but concrete floor crawl space.
I built a mass rocket heater and literally burn $4 of wood per week.
Total cost to build:
$120

Trane are decent units but they are not the best value. You're paying a lot for the brand and all the overhead and marketing behind it. If you need parts, get the lube ready because Trane parts are EXPENSIVE as fuck.

I used Goodman because they are cheap and I haven't had issues with them.

My hot water heater and boiler/baseboard systems are separate, both gas based. Boiler is about 30 years old; I expect to get another 60 years out of it, and that's only because I'm the one who will be dying. Boilers if well taken care of will last forever.

Hot water heaters on the other hand don't last nearly as long. You're pretty lucky if you get 15 years out of em.

Most people have water heaters. Why the fuck would you need a hot water heater? If the water is already hot it would not need to be heated. You are making no sense. You have just proven that you are an ignorant fuck.

My house has a 45 year old original Electric furnace. If I sell the house as is, how much to subtract from the "sell figure" considering a replacement up-to-date furnace?

Water Heater vs Hot Water Heater. Interchangeable: https://www.acehardware.com/departments/plumbing/water-heaters

Ace Hardware calls them "hot water heaters" in parts of this page too. Chill out.

ok i believe you. older unit quality parts. thicker tank that isn't rusting like the under side of a truck.

i question you don't even need a new burner after 70 years and still have a blue flame - not even a regulator. the new ones rust quickly enough.
