For the most part, the mob always avoided the Washington Metropolitan Area.
Now that it has moved on from petty activities such as narcotics, gambling and prostitution to high financial crimes that cause worldwide crises, it has had to do more business here. For a long time, though, it did little, if any, business in this area. Baltimore was about as close as it used to come.
The mobsters that have been interviewed over the years have given various reasons for avoiding this area. The two oft-repeated reasons are no money and too many Feds. The mob never liked the Feds because it cost too much to buy them.
