Using a mid 1980's GE clock radio because both my later model chinese one's failed

Most anything I used that was a durable good in 1980's is still in use. Amazing.

The chinese one: poor reception, occasionally it changes radio stations mysteriously (it's failing) when the radio has been on continuously.

Most anything chinese bought (ie, when walmart and homedepot and sears didn't sell any usa competing product or i risked a low cost purchase): is in the land fill.

---------------------

so here's the thing. there are many items "made in china" that are worse than the original

radio designs are many. you expect the later better radios to find there way into production

but it's not true: the made in china democrat crowd is about making failing equipment knowing full well it will fail (because that's already known from the past), and need continual re-purchases AT NEARLY THE PRICE OF THE durable models that do NOT need continual purchases

I travel with a 1930's era "Baby Ben" wind up alarm clock. 80+ years old, and has a great tick tick tick sound.

BEWARE: The tick-tick-tick sound will stop at 3:00 AM if you don't wind the thing every night before going to bed. Digital technology is miles ahead of the mechanical kind that Grandpa used to admire.

Let us know how that technology works out for you later this week when we get punished by the hurricane, and you are sitting in the dark.

Travel tip for extra excitement: throw a pack of hot dogs and some wires in next to it in your suitcase and you will have a fun time at airport security.

By the 80s your GE clock was probably made in Hong Kong.
The good stuff was made in Japan in the 80s.

I got my mothers spare refrigerator that is from 1958!! Why did I want it, it was from 1958 and still works, older than I am. Only issue it is not a self defrost unit, but I can deal with this. It will be my garage back up and over flow fridge. The other nice thing is it not not very deep so it takes up less space in the garage.

Sometimes "old skool" is the way to go.

Old school is the way to go if you are homeless or long-term unemployable.

Hell yeah, Somebody gave me a Montgomery wards fridge from the early 70s and I got a kit to convert it to a kegerator. That was 15 years ago and it still runs flawlessly. When the keg runs dry I use a hand truck to roll the whole thing out on the back patio and let it defrost all over the place.

I got a free GE clock radio for buying 4 shock absorbers for my 1974 F-350 Super Camper Special. The truck is long gone but the clock radio is in use to this day.
