Teachers paid more than most Americans

And what's interesting is they work far few days, have amazing benefit packages and pension the rest of their lives....on the backs of taxpaying citizens who have none of this. (Before you say why don't you become a teacher --- it's too late for me but if I could do over, it would be #1 choice. What a lifestyle!)

So teachers make to much eh? I'll bet you have no problem charging people thousands of dollars for what you do. Don't be mad at the world because of your poor life choices.

Are you a teacher? If so, you should learn how to spell and write. No wonders why the kids are all screwed up today with teachers like you.

Six years of education after high school, shitty bosses/admin, and I take home 20 hours of work every week. Suck it!

Also about 10% of our salary goes toward our pensions. Suck it again!

If you were more efficient with your work day, you would t have to take so much home with you.

Teachers tutor after school - sometimes in the building they teach

That will be $75 per hour.

About 2 months off in summer.

During their day - there are periods where they are off

Never mind the late hour they show up for work.

And the pension is really great

Let’s not say they are overpaid - but they do have it easy and they need to zip it

Looks easy from the outside. In fact the vast majority of people wouldn't last a week in a public school classroom -- even if they could somehow manage to acquire (and then maintain) all the necessary credentials. The aptitude for teaching is simply not present in most people. As the result, a crash-and-burn scenario would be the only one open to them.

Pensions of course are a form of deferred compensation. Teachers agree to take less pay up front, with the shortfall being invested for distribution later. Lots of jobs used to offer this sort of thing, but with no unions to stand for workers interests, management just forced everyone into the risks of managing their own 401-k. Too bad, so sad.

The absolute worst part about it is when teachers retire and they are their spouses are constantly in and out of the ER's and Hospitals. It's basically little or no cost to them. They have driven up insurance rates for the rest of normal working people.

What should be a normal trip to the doctor's office is a trip to the ER and an average of $2500 or more for a few hours and then discharged.

It’s not like we can do lesson plans and create a curriculum while teaching students. Also workday is only one word braniac. Now suck it!

Nonsense you dumb fuck. The medical plan is only partial coverage when teachers are actively working. And when they retire the medical plan they had is gone. It's only for active employees.

I disliked most of my teachers but the handful of excellent ones made it worthwhile. However, i think teachers will be replaced with self-directed modules on the internet. Teachers can record their lectures and make themselves available to answer questions.

The small segment of disruptive, fuctionally retarded section ate/ free lunch zombies really wastedeveryone's times. I kno i am a crosdrezzing slut now but when i have kids, i will be glad they will not be in a classroom with those ghetto losers. Only one in a classroom is enough to drag all learning to a halt.

It would seem like many posters at FFXU never had much to do with teachers at all, particularly after age 16.

Compared to the incomes of other college grads with masters degrees, their income isn't that great.

Comparing teacher incomes to the general worker population doesn't make much sense

BS. With a very low supplemental insurance plan to cover the additional 20%, and coupled with Medicare, teachers pay very little compared to the rest of the working stiffs.
I know several that are in and out of hospitals like most people change their socks.....cry babies.

Most retired teachers in this area with say 30 years of employment receive upwards of 77K per year plus benefits. Am I wrong?

No, our retirement is fully funded by the taxpayers. We have the option of saving additional money for retirement via a 403b which is similar to a 401k. Those tax deferred contributions are not matched at all. Most school employees I know are putting some money into the 403b even if it's just 100 bucks a month it really helps.

No Medicare until age 65.

A teacher I know retired at 60 and she was able to get covered for 9000 bucks a year. It just so happened that she had about 100,000 in her 403b so she is spending that money to get (Kaiser) insurance which is not great but people do get by on it. That extra savings is filling the medicare gap for her nicely.

Somehow I suspect that teachers are far more important to society than whatever the hell you do. Especially if your job involves computers. How the hell do you guys justify your salaries? You cannot sling a dead cat in this town without hitting at least three computer guys. Every week we get another batch of resumes from people wanting computer jobs and a pile of ads from companies offering computer services. If the free market worked you guys would be charging $20/hour. Most Art History majors know computers these days, plus their ability to see how the computer work integrates with the rest of the project makes them more valuable.

Most of the morons on here were still in middle school at 16, and stayed in until they were kicked out!

I’d pay them double not to leave the classroom. Clearly you haven’t been in a school lately. We should thank them with double salaries for staying there with the urchins who show up in the building daily!

What the moronic OP completely missed ... or ignored because it would contradict his brainless anti-teacher rant - is that the average median income is for all jobs - those requiring doctorates and those high-school dropouts work. If you compared teaching salaries - a job that requires a master's degree and a minimum of five years of college - with other jobs that require a master's degree you would see the significant pay gap between these public servants and those with similar educations.

Doing myself a favor this year by NOT even opening FCPS salaries --- makes my blood boil to see what salaries vocational adult education teachers make. It's a slap in the face to hard working taxpayers with half the salary, none of the cush benefits, pension, time off, etc for teaching adults a blue collar vocation.

But I guess it's hard to work 7 hour days a few days a week for 9 months of the year teaching auto mechanics, cosmetology, dental care and vocational nursing.

When are taxpayers going to say enough is enough...??

What we Fairfax taxpayers need to do is ship non-contributing low-lifes like you off to somewhere west of Roanoke. You'd love it there. Nobody smart enough to make you look like the fool you are in the first two words.

$77.000 a year for a retired teacher?
