For 11 years I lived on a 22 acre lot in Fauquier county, mostly wooded. I started shooting these tree rats with a good pellet rifle. I gave them to a neighbor who enjoyed squirrel meat. I estimate that I killed at least 200 of them a year for 5 years and there was no noticable reduction in the squirrel population at all. These things must come straight from hell.

Squirrel Stew
At least the little SOB would contribute something to society.

Ingredients

3 squirrels, cut into serving pieces
Salt
Flour for dusting
1/3 cup olive oil
2 cups sliced onion
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 heaping tablespoon tomato paste
1 cup white wine
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1 heaping teaspoon dried savory or oregano
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 heaping tablespoon paprika
2 to 3 cups of whole peeled tomatoes, torn into large pieces
1 pound smoked sausage, such as kielbasa or linguica, sliced into bite-sized pieces
1 pound greens, kale, chard, collards, wild greens, etc
black pepper to taste

Instructions

Salt the squirrel pieces well and then dust in flour. Heat the olive oil in a large Dutch oven or other heavy, lidded pot over medium-high heat. Brown the squirrels in batches, being sure to not overcrowd the pot. Move the browned pieces to a plate or cutting board while you cook the rest.
When the squirrels have been nicely browned, remove them all from the pot and add the onion. Saute the onion until it just begins to brown on the edges, about 6 to 8 minutes. Add the garlic and cook another minute. Add the tomato paste, mix well and cook this for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring often.
Pour in the white wine, vinegar and about 1 quart of water. Add the savory, red pepper flakes and paprika, then the torn-up tomatoes, then the squirrel. Mix well and bring to a simmer. Add salt to taste and cook gently until the squirrel wants to fall off the bone, about 90 minutes. Fish out all the squirrel pieces and pull them off the bone -- this makes the stew a lot easier to eat. Return them to the pot.
Add the smoked sausage and the greens and cook until the greens are done, about 10 minutes (If you are using collards, they need more than 10 minutes to cook so adjust accordingly). Add salt, black pepper, chile and vinegar to taste and serve with crusty bread.

Sooner or later he is going to work up the nerve to run inside and harvest his meals right off the table, maybe even heading directly to the fryers. Whoever this new guy is, he better watch out moving in on Furmans territory, even though he is a lot bigger than Furman, Furman is smarter and has high powered weapons.

I believe I saw Furman today near the woods adjacent to Michaels. He had a big nut stuffed in his mouth and was scampering towards a tree. Obviously people have not been as generous with the fries and McNuggets so he is returning to his roots

Once the weather gets warmer, he will go back to his old tactics of grabbing food out of the cars of people who are in the parking lot eating with their windows down.

One of the other drivers told me he was jump starting a Mercury in the Panam lot yesterday and he had left the drivers door on the Mercury wide open. He said that a squirrel ran into the car and seemed to do a quick inspection of the interior before running back towards Mcdonalds. I told him he had just met Furman.

Furman is alive and well. He is probably waiting for the warmer weather to get back to his routine

I think Micky Dees there at Panam needs to get some creativity going and offer a Furman special--2fers at a reduced price, so folks can have an extra as insurance as they leave the store and attempt to safely get to their cars before the Furman effigy strikes. Drop one as squirrel interference bait and then run like hell with your other meal!

I saw Furman as I was parking my car just a few minutes ago. He was perched upon his favorite trash container. He is on the lookout, the hunt is on today boys.
Weather he's harassing a Hummer, terrorizing a Toyota or looting a Lincoln Furman will be on patrol.

Furman was out again today scampering across the parking lot, cheeks stuffed with McNuggets. I saw an elderly couple looking at him aghast , an empty and torn bag from McDonald’s in their hands, no doubt the victims. He preys on the elderly because he knows they can’t run fast enough to catch him.

I am heading over to McDonalds in about an hour, I will look for Furman. It’s cold so he will probably be looking for some warm McMuffins with sausage.

FYI and beware, Furman is stalking near the McDonald’s today. Just saw him around 10:30. He looks hungry too.

I am off tomorrow but I can only imagine what will be taking place in the Panam lot. 68 degrees means windows will be rolled down and McDonalds gets busy after church lets out. It is going to be a wild scene.

Looks like he has taken to automobiles and four wheel drives at that, to make his escapes even more difficult to stop. Furman has a high degree of intellect and the survival instinct
