Thanks for letting off with just a speeding ticket and not giving me the reckless driving this morning.

I was driving with the flow of traffic I think that’s why he let me off. I defiantly didn’t think I was speeding. 55mph on 495 is really to slow, but i guess they can’t raise it because then everyone would just go 10mph faster then they are now.

Btw DMV has a online course that will take points off your license, it’s really not that bad and have some pretty interesting facts in there too.

Until my next run in with the law.....

THe reason 495 spped limit is 55 is due to virginia state law. All interstates in areas designated rural shall have speed limit 65 mph. All interstates in areas desingated non rural ( IE anywhere from gainsville to North of baltimore) shall have speed limit 55. its pretty cheap. call your congressman.

Your congressman can't help, because that Federal law was changed way back in 1995.

Since 1995, states are free to set speed limits as they see fit, and in fact Texas now has a highway posted at 80MPH. Virginia did raise the speedlimit on I66 to 60MPH between 28 and 234, when it used to be 55MPH. But otherwise Virginia has left speedlimits exactly as they were required to be under the old Federal laws.

Call your state senator or delegate.

There are stretchs of I-64 between Williamsburg and Richmond that are 65 mph.

Were they posted at 55MPH prior to 1995?
